    Lesson PlanChallenging the Status Quo

    Topic: Guest speaker Utilizing Grassroots: How to influence elected officials to act for you!

    Length of class: 45 minutes

    Who are your students and what are their specific learning needs?

    This lesson will be taught to five sections of 9th

    grade Language Arts students. The majority of the

    students are at or above grade level in reading and literacy skills. The 4th period and 8th period classes

    contain students identified for special education services.

    Standard(s) to be addressed:

    Iowa Core Speaking and Listening Standards:

    Comprehension and Collaboration Come to discussions prepared, having read and researched material under study; explicitly

    draw on that preparation by referring to evidence from texts and other research on the topic

    or issue to stimulate a thoughtful, well-reasoned exchange of ideas.

    Learning Objectives for this lesson:

    Content: Understand how to lobby an elected official.

    Language: Complete the note-taking guide.

    Social: Listen respectfully.
