GALAXY- National Alumni Meet 2010 The Valentine day was marked with the presence of alumni at Dr Gaur Hari Singhania Institute of Management amp Research as it celebrated its 4th alumni meet- Galaxy 2010 Prof (Dr) Shekhar Trivedi in his welcome note to the alumni and students mentioned that so far 919 students have passed out from the college and time-and-again they come to the college which is only possible through intense interaction with the alumni

Dr Prithvi Yadav announced the prospective tie-up of GHSIMR with a UK based University which will create opportunities for the students to participate in the student exchange programs and avail dual degree The occasion also marked the launch of an e-magazine where even alumni can contribute Several alumnus spoke on the occasion Mr Sumit Raghunath the President of Galaxy mentioned that the progress made by alumni is a reflection of its almashymaterSimilarly the progress made by the institute is bound to reflect on the alumni Ms Sahib Jeet Iltaur talked about women in corporate sector Mr Om Shankar Mr Zuber Khan Mr Suresh Nair Mr Vishal Kapoor Mr Vikas Iltapoor Ms Sonalika Garg and Mr Vinay Rai participated in the panel discussion on Realities of Work in Corporate Sector conducted by Prof Puneet Rai In the evening a cultural extravaganza followed which featured Vandana by Ankita Group Dance by Smriti amp

Visit of Prof Dr Rajendra Shirole Director-Kent Business School Canterbury Dr Shirole was here to boost the talks regarding the collaboration of GHS-IMR with the Kent Business School and also prospecting the viability of a tie-up between GHSIMR and Kent Business School Canterbury The talks that are on for more than 7 months now aims at exposing the students to international education and corporate environment The proposal includes exchange of students between the two business schools for the summer-internship program of 2-3 weeks and also an year-long M5c program at Kent Business School after the completion of PGDM at GHS-IMR

Mr Shirole other than being the Director of Kent Business School is also a corporate strategist and consultant He said that every day in a challenging environment is a learning experience and one should

appreciate learning in a new environmentTalking about International Business he said that IB is all about adding different flavour to picture He also discussed the changing role of Human Resource Department in corporate leadership in turbulent times and understanding how to create need and add value Discussion with the students went around themes like- how to seek value as a manager in the emerging context and relate to the new world order It was truly a value adding session for GHS-IMR on the whole

Placement Report - 2010 GHSIMR is an acknowledged and networked institution in delivering globally competitive business education

GHSIMR graduates are the most sought after in the corporate world today as they have over the years demonstrated strong analytical skills strategic thinking and breadth of knowledge to hit the ground running in any industry This has been reaffirmed in the final placements of the batch of 2008-10 More than 50 companies agreed to participate in the process to recruit a batch of 169 with students landing plum offers from the creme de la creme of 37 recruiters

The largest hiring sector for employment continues to be service industries with financial services attracting the most students Many students accepted opportunities in the Consumer Durables and Pharmaceuticals sector showing the diversity of interest among our students We also continue to see a growing interest in sustainability with more students choosing to accept full-time opportunities in areas such as energy and nonprofit work than in prior years

Oswal securities etc Continuing with its tradition of breaking new grounds every year GHS-IMR Kanpur had excellent

placement this year Interestingly around 70 of the companies were first time recruiters at this Institute

The Institute has supported entrepreneurship by providing incubation to start-ups at the campus More than 5 students

have taken initative to start their own venture to utilize the skills learned during their learning period at GHS-IMR

The highest compensation package of Rs 38lakhs per annum was offered by Eli Lilly amp Co Ltd The average salary

Initially around 12 pre-placement offers were made to students after their summer internship but only 3 could be finally converted due to slowdown

The first batch of PGDM (IWI) had a good start to their placement season with 95 of the students already placed The batch was placed across financial sectors such as Stock Broking Advisory Insurance Banking etc

Placement Tour for the year 2009-10 yielded more than 650 contacts throughout India and helped us bring in the companies like First Flight VIP Industries Bank of Baroda DSCL Sugar Berger Paints Exide Industries ING Vysya Trinity Reinsurance Brokers etc

As economy is in the opening mode many companies have approached GHS-IMR recently and are in the pipeline We hope to generate 20 - 25 more employments by the end of April 201 O

Comparative Analysis with Jaipuria Institute of Management Lucknow

As mentioned in the Placement Report of Jaipuria Institute they have been able to place only 110 students against their intake capacity of 300 students where as we have been successful in placing 120+ students against capacity of 167 students

Industrial Visit This is the time for getting the exposure along with knowledge and interacting with the corporate professionals in different sectors This is the Industrial visit when students take a leap in their careers and visit the top industries of the country Students divided in 3 groups visited different industries in Gujrat and Daman

A group of students visited the General Motors plant located at Halol near Vadodara Gujarat The other industries visited by the students were Enron and Reliance Petrochemicals Enron is an ISO 9001-2000 certified company for manufacturing installation and services It has presence in seven high wind potential states viz Karnataka Maharashtra Tamil Nadu Rajasthan Gujarat Madhya Pradesh and Andra Pradesh It has already installed more than 1800 wind energy converters in India with total installed capacity exceeding 1000 MW Reliance Petrochemicals is one of the major players in the petrochemical sector in India

The other industries visited were Bombardier a Canadian conglomerate making coaches for Delhi Metro Railway Corporation Chandra Protec Ltd which deals in aluminium products like wires rods etc AMUL a well known brand in milk and milk products and the largest milk division of India Raymonds the fabric wing of Reliance that manufacturers world class fabric with fantastic quality and premium price tags The visit was a success under the able leadership of Prof Suneel Gupta Dr Shekhar Trivedi Prof Somil Mishra Prof SIlt Dixit etc

Mr vP Kamath currently working as the CEO at Apollo hospitals visited GHS-IMR on Feb 122010 for a day-long session with the students on marketing management He has over 20 years of work experience in Health care industry and has been associated with Johnson and Johnson as General Manager Nicholas Piramal India Ltd as Sr Vice President and Mudra communications as President Mr Kamath shared his experience of health care industry with the students Being into the industry for such long time he gave insights about how fiercely competitive the marketing world is He narrated various interesting incidents behind the innovative launches of the corporate giants Students and the faculty members were impressed alike with his intelligent interactive and amusing way of narration He kept asking questions from the students and did a Logo Identification Quizof about 122 brands He was quite impressed with the knowledge-bank of the students as the success rate in the quiz was 97 An in an it was wonderful to have a person ofMr Kamaths stature

A session on Human Development and Economic Growth- case of India was taken

by Prof Rahul Verman from department of IME liT Kanpur He discussed concepts

like Purchase Power Parity Human Development Index Life Expectancy Ratio etc

Prof Vermans research exposed some very shocking facts The data revealed that

836 million people live on Rs 20 - a day and that 30 people have got 80 share

in Indias GDP Throwing light on dismal plight of farmers he told that in last 11 years

2 lakh farmers have committed suicide ( And we claim to believe that we are an

agrarian society) He drew attention to the pathetic health care scenario as well

Government expenditure on health is 9 of the GDP Indias rating at HDI is 134 He

also talked about the huge Black Market Economy running parallel It was followed

by the question and answer session The lecture was a real eye-opener

The lecture was regarding the importance of rural marketing He educated the students about the model used to tap rural marketing and that is e-chaupalHe told about the involvement and the development of e-chau pal The pu rpose of eshychaupal is to Improve the quality of life in rural India They introduced the concepts like credit in the rural market and the rural retail malls and were successful in achieving them as well They are also trying for the successful distribution of lTCs products to the rural markets and market other companys products as well Elaborating further on e-chaupal he said that e-chaupal is not a corporate social responsibility Instead it is a commercial business model The lecture was followed by a question and answer session He advised the students to keep reading because he believes Iife doesnt end with the end of the education it actually starts

Mr Vinay Rai MR VINAY RAI an alumnus of GHS-IMR and presently Relationship Manager in Standard Charter was here to deliver a presentation on financial marketingHe shared his experiences and the learnings that come with being in the profession for a considerable time He also told the students about the changing face of banking With the advent of private banks in banking sector the banks are increasingly becoming customer oriented and friendly Mr Rai told the students about the categorization of the banks into Nationalized Indian Multinational banks He in detail discussed about the branch banking sales model and retail banking sector dealing with the issues of the multiple products channels of distribution and the customer group and customer segmentation Thanks to MrRai the students could understand the functioning of the banking industry and its rapidly changing facet

Mr Sanjeev Kumar _ Failure vyill never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough This statement was well justified by Mr Sanjeev Kumar GM (Marketing) Shalimar paints Ltd who delivered a guest lecture on Importance of Soft Skills in Professional Life at GHSIMR Iltanpur According to Mr Sanjeev soft skills are those non - technical skills which add to the productivity of an individual Mr Kumar was eloquent about the fact that the professionals today are not equipped with enough soft skills to stand out in the competitive professional world He listed the essential of soft skills as communication skills interpersonal skills relations management corporate etiquette emotional quotient professional attitude customer orientation and time management He also emphasized the importance of non-verbal communication In ali it was a very enriching learning experience which showed the students a different dimension and a better understanding of soft skills

Movie Preview In the wake of the start of a Film Club at GHSIMR a Preview of the Movie Shahid Udham Singh was organised followed with its Appreciative Enquiry Critical Analysis The institute had the privilege of having the writer of the film - Mr Atul Tewari who is also the writer of the much acclaimed films like - Droh Kaal Mission Kashmir Bose-The Forgotten Hero Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisee and Shaheed Udham Singh

Biz-Buzz TiE UPs Business Plan Competition The BizBuzz 2010 was organised on Sunday March 14 2010 TiE UP used the GHSIMR auditorium for its competition The programme started with a high dignitary Panel Discussion conducted by the eminent jury consisting of Mr B V Chaubal CGM SBI (Chief Guest) Dr Kripa Shanker Vc UPTU (Keynote Speaker) Mr Pradeep Gupta CMD Cyber Media Mr Pravin Kumar CEO Spanco BPO Dr Jayanta Chatterjee Professor liT Kanpur and Mr Rahul Shukla Consultant TCS on the topic ilEntrepreneurship-Mantra for Indian Global Stampil

Basant Panchami GHS-IMR believes in preserving our culture and staying rooted to our traditions Abiding by this belief in spirit and not only in wordsGHS-IMR organized a Saraswati puja and hawan on the auspicious occasion of Basant Panchami to pay obeisance to Goddess Saraswati -the goddess of knowledge Prof (Dr) Yadav and his wife Sarita Yadav added the personal touch to the event by performing puja and hawan The colour of the day was yellow and the faculty and the staff all were in yellow and the related colours The chanting of the hymns and the flames of the hawan created the atmosphere so devout and peaceful that everybody could feel the revival of human connection to God A sense of purification filled the hearts of those present Everyone took aarti and prasad

Visit of Prof Dr Rajendra Shirole Director-Kent Business School Canterbury Dr Shirole was here to boost the talks regarding the collaboration of GHS-IMR with the Kent Business School and also prospecting the viability of a tie-up between GHSIMR and Kent Business School Canterbury The talks that are on for more than 7 months now aims at exposing the students to international education and corporate environment The proposal includes exchange of students between the two business schools for the summer-internship program of 2-3 weeks and also an year-long M5c program at Kent Business School after the completion of PGDM at GHS-IMR

by Prof Rahul Verman from department of IME liT Kanpur He discussed concepts

like Purchase Power Parity Human Development Index Life Expectancy Ratio etc

Prof Vermans research exposed some very shocking facts The data revealed that

836 million people live on Rs 20 - a day and that 30 people have got 80 share

in Indias GDP Throwing light on dismal plight of farmers he told that in last 11 years

2 lakh farmers have committed suicide ( And we claim to believe that we are an

agrarian society) He drew attention to the pathetic health care scenario as well

Government expenditure on health is 9 of the GDP Indias rating at HDI is 134 He

also talked about the huge Black Market Economy running parallel It was followed

by the question and answer session The lecture was a real eye-opener

The lecture was regarding the importance of rural marketing He educated the students about the model used to tap rural marketing and that is e-chaupalHe told about the involvement and the development of e-chau pal The pu rpose of eshychaupal is to Improve the quality of life in rural India They introduced the concepts like credit in the rural market and the rural retail malls and were successful in achieving them as well They are also trying for the successful distribution of lTCs products to the rural markets and market other companys products as well Elaborating further on e-chaupal he said that e-chaupal is not a corporate social responsibility Instead it is a commercial business model The lecture was followed by a question and answer session He advised the students to keep reading because he believes Iife doesnt end with the end of the education it actually starts

Mr Vinay Rai MR VINAY RAI an alumnus of GHS-IMR and presently Relationship Manager in Standard Charter was here to deliver a presentation on financial marketingHe shared his experiences and the learnings that come with being in the profession for a considerable time He also told the students about the changing face of banking With the advent of private banks in banking sector the banks are increasingly becoming customer oriented and friendly Mr Rai told the students about the categorization of the banks into Nationalized Indian Multinational banks He in detail discussed about the branch banking sales model and retail banking sector dealing with the issues of the multiple products channels of distribution and the customer group and customer segmentation Thanks to MrRai the students could understand the functioning of the banking industry and its rapidly changing facet
