From the Principal
As we approach the final two weeks of this semester we move into reporting and Parent Teacher Conferences. At Guardian Angels, written reports are offered twice yearly at the end of both Semesters 1 & 2. These reports reflect teachers’ professional judgements made on a body of evidence about a student’s progress and achievements against the Achievement Standards of the Australian Curriculum. Typically, children will be achieving at the expected level by the end of the year. Be sure to book your time for your Parent Teacher Conference over the next two weeks.
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD)
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability is an annual collection that counts the number of school students with a disability and the level of reasonable educational adjustment with which they are provided (information sheet over page). All Australian schools will participate in the NCCD.
Parents/guardians wishing their child’s details not to be included in the NCCD collection are to advise the school in writing by Wednesday 15 June 2016.

WHAT IS THE NATIONAL DATA COLLECTION?
The Nationally Consistent Collection of Data on School Students with Disability (the national data collection) is an annual collection that
counts the number of school students with disability and the level of reasonable educational adjustment they are provided with.
The national data collection counts students who have been identified by a school team as receiving an adjustment to address a disability
under the Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (the DDA). The DDA can be accessed from the ComLaw website at www.comlaw.gov.au.
what is the benefit for my child?
The aim of the national data collection is to collect quality information about school students with disability in Australia.
This information will help teachers, principals, education authorities and families to better support students with disability to take part in
school on the same basis as students without disability.
The national data collection is an opportunity for schools to review their learning and support systems and processes to continually improve
education outcomes for their students with disability.
WHY IS THIS DATA BEING COLLECTED?
All schools across Australia collect information about students with disability. But the type of information currently collected varies between
each state and territory and across government, Catholic and independent school sectors.
When undertaking the national data collection, every school in Australia will use the same method to collect information. Therefore, a gov-
ernment school in suburban Sydney will collect and submit data in the same way as a Catholic school in country Victoria and an independ-
ent school in the Northern Territory.
The information provided through the national data collection will enable all Australian governments to improve target support and re-
sources to benefit students with disability.
WHAT ARE SCHOOLS REQUIRED TO DO FOR STUDENTS WITH DISABILITY?
All students are entitled to a quality learning experience at school.
Schools are required to make reasonable adjustments, where needed, to assist students with disability to access and participate in educa-
tion free from discrimination and on the same basis as other students.
These responsibilities are outlined in the DDA and the Disability Standards for Education 2005 (the Standards). The Standards require
educators, students, parents and others (e.g. allied health professionals) to work together so that students with disability can participate in
education. The Standards can be accessed via the ComLaw website at www.comlaw.gov.au.
WHAT IS A REASONABLE ADJUSTMENT?
A reasonable adjustment is a measure or action taken to help a student with disability access and participate in education on the same
basis as students without disability. Reasonable adjustments reflect the assessed individual needs of the student, and are provided in con-
sultation with the student and/or their parents and carers. Reasonable adjustments can be made across the whole school setting (e.g.
ramps into school buildings), in the classroom (such as adapting class lessons) and at an individual student level (e.g. extra tuition for a
student with learning difficulties).
What information will be collected?
Every year your child’s school will collect the following information for each student with a disability:
the student’s level of education (i.e. primary or secondary)
the student’s level of adjustment
the student’s broad type of disability.
The information collected by schools will be provided to all governments to inform policy and programme improvement for students with
disability.

WHO WILL BE INCLUDED IN THE NATIONAL DATA COLLECTION?
The definition of disability for the national data collection is based on the broad definition under the DDA.
For the purposes of the national data collection, students with learning difficulties such as dyslexia or auditory processing disorder as well
as chronic health conditions like epilepsy, diabetes or asthma, that require active monitoring by the school, may be included.
Who will collect information FOR THE NATIONAL DATA COLLECTION?
Teachers and school staff will count the number of students with disability in their school and the level of reasonable adjustment they are
provided based on:
consultation with parents and carers in the course of determining and providing reasonable adjustments
the school team’s observations and professional judgments
any medical or other professional diagnosis
other relevant information.
School principals are responsible for ensuring the information identified about each student is accurate.
How will my child’s privacy be protected?
Protecting the privacy and confidentiality of all students and their families is essential. Personal details such as student names or other
identifying information will not be provided to local or federal education authorities.

IS THE NATIONAL DATA COLLECTION COMPULSORY?
All education ministers agreed to full implementation of the national data collection from 2015. This means that all schools must now collect
and submit information annually on the number of students with disability in their care and the level of adjustment provided to them.
Information about the arrangements that may apply to your school in relation to this data collection is available from your child’s school
principal and the relevant education authority.

From the Assistant Principal Administration Parent Teacher Conferences A reminder that all parents are requested to book an interview time with your child’s teacher as soon as possible. Interviews commence next Tuesday 14 June and conclude on Thursday 23 June. Please don’t leave it until the last moment to book your appointment, as available times are quickly filling up. Re/Max Advantage Illuminations Festival The annual Lantern Parade will be held on Saturday 18 June, commencing at 6pm. Our Year 5 and 6 students have been involved this term in decorating lanterns for the parade. Prior to the parade there will be several stalls set up in the George Clayton Bandstand Park from 3pm-8pm. A fireworks display will take place at 7.30pm. Guardian Angels’ families are encouraged to join in the spectacle of the Lantern Parade. Students must be accompanied by a parent who will be responsible for them on the evening. Families attending the Lantern Parade are asked to meet just north of the car park adjacent to the Whale Park at 5pm. The organisers of the event have allocated our Guardian Angels’ families to Section B which will be signed on the evening. Students can collect a lantern from the organisers on the evening. You are welcome to bring along a lantern if your child is not in Year 5 or 6. The parade will walk from the Whale Park to the Bayside Sea Scouts Hall and will take approximately half an hour. A flyer with directions is attached to this newsletter. Life Education Program Several of our Prep – Year 4 classes missed out on their Life Education session this term as the presenter’s mother sadly passed away unexpectedly. As the Life Education van is heavily booked, we have been unable to reschedule these visits at a suitable time. Students who did not attend will have the cost of the session reversed on Term 3 school fees. Have a great week everyone. Dawn Morrissey
From the Assistant Principal Religious Education Virtue
This fortnight each class will be looking at the virtue of peacefulness. To be peaceful is to have an inner sense of calm. It comes especially in quiet moments of reflection or gratitude.
Peacefulness is a way of approaching conflict with others so that no one is made wrong. It is being fair to others and yourself. Peace is giving up the love of power for the power of love. With peacefulness, everyone wins. We are practising peacefulness when we: Create inner peace with a regular time to pray,
meditate or reflect Use peaceful language even when you are angry Speak gently and respectfully Avoid harming anyone Appreciate differences Find peaceful solutions to every problem Whole School Mass
On Thursday 16th June at 9am we will be celebrating Mass as a whole school. The Mass will take place in the Shed on Mt Carmel Campus. It would be lovely to see lots of parents, grandparents and other family members join us to
celebrate Eucharist in the shed as a whole school for the first time. You are all very welcome to join us. Confirmation
Next Wednesday 15th June at 5pm and 7.30pm many children at Guardian Angels will receive the Sacrament of Confirmation from Bishop Joseph Oudeman and Father John Spiteri. These children have been preparing to
receive this Sacrament for many weeks. Please keep these children and their families in your prayers. Music News
It has been an exciting start to the musical year at Guardian Angels where a number of new students have joined some familiar faces. Our current musicians consist of Years 1-5 Guitars; learning a range of songs from Scarborough Fair, Aura Lee to Molly Malone and our Year 3 keyboardists learning The Mexican Hat Dance. To showcase a selection of these students’ hard work, a concert will be held during lunchtime on Tuesday 21st of June at 10:40am until 11:10am. The concert will be held in the multi-purpose building on the Mt Carmel Campus of Guardian Angels’ School and will consist of a mix of students of Miss Cassie Muir's music students, Mrs. Hilary Skulskyj's piano students and our guitar and keyboard students. We would love to see more students join us next semester, particularly for guitar. If you think learning an instrument would interest your child, please contact Musicorp on 1300 858 911. Book Club News
The rewards from Issues 3 and 4 of Scholastic Book Club purchases totalled $329.00. Thank you to all families who purchased items and supported our school in the process. Rewards will en-able the school to purchase well needed resources. There will be no Book Club next term as the school celebrates Book Week in Term 3 and will have a won-derful Book Fair from which to purchase your books. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Sports News
On Thursday 2nd of June, 46 Guardian Angels' students attended the St Anthony's invitational cross country event, along with students from 14 other schools from across the Archdiocese. Given the weather conditions, we did exceptionally well during this event and everyone enjoyed the day. We thank Mr Luke and Mr Erwin for their support and organisation and a special mention for Mr Hayes who set up and cleaned our muddied and soaked tent before and after this sporting event. We thank all students who participated and represented our school so well in this fabulous event. GOOOOOOO Guardian Angels!

Just a quick reminder that the Winter Vacation Care program is out now. A copy of the program is attached to newsletter email. Please note that places are getting filled very quickly. The excursion on Wednesday 29 June 2016 is fully booked. There is also limited space available on any other day. If you haven’t already made a booking, please contact the OSHC Office at [email protected] to obtain a copy of the program and a booking form. To avoid any disappointment, please submit your bookings as soon as possible. School Banking day is Thursday.
Remember, Thursday is School Banking day and students should bring in their weekly deposit.
For every deposit made at school, no matter how big or small, students will receive a silver Dollar-mites token. Once students have individually col-lected 10 tokens they can redeem them for an ex-clusive School Banking reward item in recognition of their regular savings habits.
School Banking is also a great fundraiser for our school, raising 5% on every deposit made through the school (to a maximum of $10 per individual deposit).
If your child has lost their book, they can bring their money to school in a sealed envelope with a
note on the next School Banking day. We will issue them with a replacement.
Thank you for supporting the School Banking program at Guardian Angels. We would also like to thank the wonderful parents who volunteer as our School Banking Co-ordinators and process our banking every week.

Seagulls Holiday Fun
Wynnum Manly Leagues Club is running a Vacation Rugby League Skills Camp for children aged 6-10 to be held at Kougari Oval from June 27 to June 29. Flyers are available from the school offices.
Bayside Triathlon Club

Eye Clinic Specsavers at Wynnum Plaza are hosting a children's clinic over the school holidays.
Clinic days are:
Wednesday 29th of June (9am-4:30pm) Friday 1st of July (9am-4:30pm)
The average test takes 20-30mins and if spectacles are required the general turn around is 7-10 days or
less, meaning that most orders will be completed before school returns. All eye tests are bulk billed through MEDICARE and include a large array of health checks. All children will see a fully qualified, ACBO - (The Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists)
accredited optometrist & receive a goody bag to take home with them, filled with fun facts and knick knacks and our staff will be dressed to impress in fun, playful costumes to make it a pleasant experience.
Open Day at Wynnum Manly Community Kindy Wynnum Manly Community Kindy at Ashton Street Wynnum Offers “kindergarten only” programs for pre prep children. We have long and short day groups and also offer after kindy care until 5:30pm. We are well established and exceed National Quality Standards. FitKids Classes at Guardian Angels
‘Afternoon Classes’
FFH are hoping to run afternoon classes at GA in Term 3, but before that we will be running 5 sessions in Term 2 to see if they will work and if the kids like
them!

Kids will be met at a designated spot on each campus
and walked over by a FFH staff member.
Classes will be held at Chestnut Street
Classes will be a user pay system and each session will be capped.
Each session will cost $5.
