Dear Colleagues, Welcome to another edition of the Guard Post.

I am happy to advise that we are now operating in our new premises located at 2 Clunies Ross Court, Eight Mile Plains. It was sad to leave our old premises at 41 Pentex Street where we have been located for the past 35 years. The Queensland business is the last of the MSS Security

group to leave Chubb premises, which has been long overdue. The new premises has been designed to accommodate the requirements of the business and includes three meeting rooms, a boardroom and an improved training facility. The premise also has easy access to the gateway motorway, the M1 and the south-east freeway. Those of you who are attending the 2016 awards night at the Brisbane Technology Park Confer-ence Centre are welcome to view the new offices which are located directly opposite. Since our last communication Jamie Adams, General Manager SEQ has been elevated to the role General Manager SA/NT. I would like to thank Jamie for the four years’ service in the Queensland business and wish him well in his new role. We hope shortly to make an announcement concerning the Commonwealth Games and we are keenly awaiting decisions with other contracts. In November, the pay rates increase in line with the MSS Security Enterprise Agreement 2014 - 2018. The new pay rates listed below will be payable from the first full pay period on or after the 1st of November. The rate of pay that an employ-ee is paid depends upon the nature of the work performed by the employee at the site the employee is based at.

IVR (Welfare Calls) The purpose of the Interactive Voice Response System (IVR) is to ensure the safety and wellbeing of MSS Security, our officers, sub-contractors, clients and customers or any other person associated with MSS Security. Frequently Asked Questions…….

Why do we use this system? This system is set up for the safety and wellbeing of officers working either alone or as part of a team environment. It is also a way of providing evidence to either a client or any other interest-ed party that an officer has reported for duty, finished their shift or has handed over to another officer and provides evidence of the officer check-ing in at pre-set regular times specific to their post. What is the process? The officer calls 1800 819 795, and follows the instructions issued by the program and then hangs up. Each site has a unique four digit code that must be entered when requested. If any of the calls have not been record-ed in the pre set time period, an alarm is registered on the operator’s screen who will then attempt to make contact with the officer. Once contact is made, the operator will clear the call from the screen. What happens if the officer cannot be contacted? If the officer cannot be contacted, a management representative is sent to the site. In the case of a ‘no show’ for the start of a shift, another officer will be sent to complete the shift. The management representative will con-tinue to attempt to make contact with the officer who has not presented for the start of shift. What happens if there is an emergency? In the event of an emergency on site, where the officer requires back-up, ‘9’ can be selected on the phone, which will transfer them directly to the operator. The officer can also select ‘4’ to speak with the operator. All details can be found within the red folder on site.

Shift Swap Procedure: The shift swap procedure is designed to ensure continuity of service to the customer through defined controls and minimum requirements to receive approval for a mutual shift swap between staff. This procedure manages the risks of uncontrolled and unmanaged shift swaps and the impact on staff and agreed staffing levels to MSS Security clients.

In accordance with the MSS Security Queensland Enterprise Agreement 2014 – 2018, Clause 4.2.2, Employees may swap rostered shifts by agreement with no pen-alty to the Employer, subject to the approval of the Employer. In these circumstanc-es, no overtime or other penalties will be payable by the Company to the employee(s) if such overtime or penalties would not have been payable if the shift swaps had not occurred in the first instance. Use the MSS Shift Swap Form, located on the intranet for any shift swap requests.

Security Licence:

Your Security Licence must be carried on you at all times. According to the Employee Standing Instructions Section 1, Discipline and Conduct, 1.5 Licences states: “Employees must be able to produce their security licence to an authorised officer of the state or territory licencing agency, member of the police or supervisor / manager of MSS whilst on duty. Refusal to produce a security licence may result in the employee being stood down or dismissed as well as being required to pay any pen-

alty imposed by the relevant licencing authority.” You could be fined $2,356 should you not produce your licence when asked.

. Save time - renew your security licence online!

Individual Class 1 and Class 2 security provider licences can now be renewed online. You only need your licence number to get started because online renewal applications are lodged via a SmartForm which is linked to the OFT database. So the information is tailored to your licence and categories. You can pay online using either Mastercard or Visa debit/credit card. They have also included BPAY which you can access by choosing the ‘pay later’ option. Once the form is submitted, you are deemed licensed until you receive your new li-cence, or your application is refused or withdrawn. At the moment, you’ll still get a reminder notice and renewal form in the mail. The OFT are increasing their service options, so you can make the most of your time. You can still access OFT services through the traditional methods: call on 13 QGOV (13 74 68) email industry licensing at industry.licensing@justice.qld.gov.au Visit the service centres. In addition, we now have a one day First Aid training program for those who need to renew their first aid qualifications (previously 2 days). Kung Fu Panda visited Caneland Central Shopping Centre in Mackay on the 27th June 2016 to promote his new movie.

GOOD NEWS STORIES

Congratulations to Justin Wellbelove for providing outstanding customer service whilst on duty at Stockland Shopping Centre. There was a serious incident where an elderly lady was knocked over on the crossing outside of the shopping cen-tre. Justin was one of the first on the scene and responded in a way that can only be described as amaz-ing. Not only did Justin raise the alarm to centre manage-ment, he also took control of the incident until help arrived. He formed an exclusion zone, ordered for someone to get the privacy screens, stopped the traffic and attended to the injured lady.

Whilst this incident was unfolding there was a separate incident inside the centre which again Justin handled professionally whilst still under pressure from the events happening outside. Justin’s outstanding work is a wonderful example of going above and beyond to provide excellent customer service.
