Belgrade is the capital and largest city of Serbia, located at the confluence of the Sava and Danube rivers, where the Pannonian Plain meets the Balkans. The city, who’s name translates to “White City”, has a population of 1.58 million. Belgrade has a special administrative status within Serbia and it is one of five statistical regions of Serbia. Its metropolitan territory is divided into 17 municipalities, each with its own local council. It covers 3.6% of Serbia’s territory, and 22.5% of the country’s population lives in the city.

Taking full advantage of its prime location, Ada Mall will become a meeting point for not only the local residents, but also for the many visitors of the entire city. Ada Ciganlija is one of the biggest tourist attractions, and although it is not a historical monument, Ada is a destination which has visitors from all over Serbia, who come to enjoy the beach, a refreshing swim in Savsko jezero (Sava lake), or to rent a bike at Ada and use the sport facilities. The increasingly popular recreational zone often has over 100,000 visitors daily and up to 300,000 at weekends, which makes Ada Mall one of the best located malls in Serbia.
Ada Mall, located in the City of Belgrade, one of the most happening cities in Europe, is welcoming a new shopping centre strategically situated at the intersection of the residential neighbourhood of Banovo Brdo, the Ada Ciganlija Island, the old city of Belgrade and New Belgrade. The development borders at the south with Visoka Street, north with Radnicka Street, and east with Pastroviceva Street.

The building takes advantage of its surroundings by stepping back at the second and third floors towards the South, making room for green terraces and vista points, allowing optimum viewpoints towards the famous river and beach. The rooftop capitalises on the picturesque views of the area, with a large garden terrace offering panoramic views of the peninsula.

In geography, a confluence is the meeting of two or more bodies of water. It refers to where two streams meet to become the source of a river of a new name.

The primary design concept is inspired by the city’s heritage, with history being one of their products; it is a river island that has artificially been turned into a peninsula, a true little oasis just four kilometres away from the very centre of Belgrade. This concept is reflected in the shape of the mall, which replicates the shape of the island, and also by the presence of a green interior landscape on the ground, and through the upper levels by green terraces and a roof garden. The architectural language of the building is inspired by its proud surroundings. This is reflected, not only in the shape and style of the building’s design, but also in the choice of materials, being a combination of glass and painted plaster covered by vertical wooden elements, green walls, green terraces and gardens. It’s chaotic past unfolds before your eyes. More than 1,000 car parking spaces are set to be included within the development. A uniform distribution of circulation both vertically and horizontally is achieved with escalators through the central atrium, as well as vertical lifts which are located at either end of the building connecting the car park in the underground levels to the roof garden.

Creating softly shaped surroundings gives guests the opportunity to walk through areas that vary in height and in types of greenery.The aim is to achieve a mixture of native species, native grass, a selection of perennials, a few evergreen shrubs, and a few deciduous endemic tree species. This will help the creation of a soft yet sophisticated atmosphere, where people will enjoy stopping, sitting, resting or just passing through.
The landscape design is an essential component for Ada Mall for the occupied green areas, terraces and greenery. Consistent with the architectural language of the building, the landscape design follows the building’s smooth and flowing lines from the ground floor to the rooftop, on the terraces and green areas hurtling towards a brighter future. On each floor, we can recognise a succession of soft and smoothly shaped spaces, consisting of footpaths which open into a series of seating and rest areas, surrounded by gently shaped planted green areas. The new destination spans over five floors of commercial space, and three levels of underground parking linked together by the mall. With a total GLA of more than 34,000 SQM, the mall will be home to retail units over three floors, with restaurants and additional facilities such as multipurpose spaces and a FEC on the top levels, which will also have separate opening hours to the rest of the mall creating “new-world” nightlife. When the night falls, the city oasis rich in nature transforms into a destination surrounded by restaurants and bars. Ada Mall’s fourth floor will be the new place to be for those looking to relax in this unique town any night of the week.
