Electric Shaver Electric Shaver, Ford Part Number B6A-18250-A
The pace of the go-go '50s was
apparently such that a man had-
n't even the time to shave before
hopping in his car and heading
off to work. We'll admit that
Ford simply assigning a part
number (B6A-18250-A) to a
Remington 60 razor with a ciga-
rette lighter DC adapter plug barely qualifies this as an option, but it
was a telling sign of the times. We can now pinpoint 1957 as the offi-
cial turning point in American society when a man's sacred rituals of
the home finally found their way into the vehicle - thus, the uniquely
American archetype of the corporate commuter (i.e., wage slave) who
dedicates several hours a day to sitting in traffic was finally born.
Sure, an electric razor in the glove compartment may seem harmless,
but it's only a hop, skip and a cultural jump between this and the mo-
ron in the fast lane yapping on a cell phone and weaving all over the
interstate.

in Philadelphia on May 21, 1922 to Stephen Rack Sr. and Elizabeth Rack. Grew up in
Elmer, NJ where he learned farming skills and met lifelong friends. Steve worked as a
tool and die maker for the Budd Company in Philadelphia for over 40 years while liv-

restoring antique cars with his sons, going to car shows and was a long time member
of the Garden State Model A Antique Automobile Club of America. While living on

longtime member of St. Lawrence Church in Lindenwold. He helped build Camden
County Fairgrounds in Lakeland, and earned the honorary title of Mr. 4-H of which
he volunteered his time up until his death. He will be sadly missed by his family and
friends.

1920 Briggs
and Stratton
Flyer
By 1920, the auto-
motive was no
longer a primitive
experiment. Com-
panies such as
Rolls-Royce,
Cadillac, Hispano-Suiza and Voisin were making potent and
luxurious automobiles, the technical achievements of the age.
And then there was this, the Flyer, which is no more than a
motorized park bench on bicycle wheels. No suspension, no
bodywork, no windshield. It was actually a five wheeler, with
the dinky 2-hp Briggs and Stratton engine driving a traction
wheel on the back, like a boat's outboard motor. The Flyer
represents something we'll see several times on this list: The
drive to make the absolute cheapest, most minimal automobile
possible.

Heli-Coil Thread Repair Kits
Sometimes threads are stripped or cross-threaded,
especially the ones for the mounting flange bolts
(5/6-18). Heli-Coil Thread Repair kits are avail-
able for this size at some hardware stores and most
machine tool stores. The kit inserts are precision
coils of stainless steel, diamond-shaped wire. The
kit has a toll called a tang for installation, which is
notched for easy removal. The insert is larger than
the tapped hole before installation. During installa-
tion, the insert is compressed so it will enter the
tapped hole. After installation, each coil expands
outward to permanently anchor the insert. Since
the insert is made of wire, it automatically adjusts
itself to any expansion or contraction of casting.

The 'A' Note
Recently I was trying to find a problem on my 1930 Model A Ford, and before I
could completely figure out why my car wasn’t running well, the starter seemed
to go out. I couldn’t believe that my starter could fail at just the exact moment
that I thought I had fixed my other problem! I was incredibly frustrated, so I
called my buddy Devin to commiserate.
What had happened was that when I pushed the starter button, nothing at all
happened. Just a very soft click. It was as if the starter wasn’t even attached to
the car. As soon as I said that, Devin knew what the problem was. Sometimes
the starter can get stuck. The gear that it uses to turn over the engine doesn’t re-
tract the way it is supposed to, so when you try to start the engine it can’t do a
thing. The solution is to put the car in second gear, make sure the emergency
brake is off, and then start rocking the car back and forth. When the bendix in
the starter disengages, you will hear it. I had to rock my car with a pretty good
amount of force, but it worked!
By the way, my mystery, intermittent problem was that I had two loose wires in
my dash. If you are having an intermittent problem with starting or smooth run-
ning of your Model A, be sure to check all the connections under the dash panel.

My First Car
Once upon a time, well when I was 16, my parents gave me my first car! The only problem
was that it had been sitting in the woods, torn apart, for about 7 years. The car was a 1971
Ford Maverick Grabber. Original color was that Metallic Green with the reflective black/
yellow stripes down the sides. It also had a vinyl top (at the time it was spray painted flat
black since the top had blown off years earlier), black vinyl interior with the factory high back
bucket seats, and a three speed manual shifter in the floor. The engine, dismantled and sitting
in the trunk. More rust than sunken ship. I guess my parents thought they were being funny
when they gave it to me on my 16th birthday. So I decided I would show them!:p I spent 4
years working it. Two of those years were in my junior and senior year in high school. I took a
vocational auto body class (and only worked in that field 6 months after graduation).
I finally finished the car in late '93. Here is a picture of it from when we were visiting some
friends in Nashville in 1993. It's a poor picture, but the only one I have. We were snowed in
for 4 days during that March. The front bumper is missing, and at the time was sent off to be
rechromed. And the passenger side fender was primer colored due to some much needed re-
painting. http://www.tvmotorsports.net/stuff/maverick_1.jpg About six months after comple-
tion, I was headed home from work at about 2 a.m. when I rounded a curve in the road at
about 65 mph (we lived in the country). In the middle of the road stood a nice sized deer! But
what could I do. I hit the deer with the left front fender and under the car he went.
Something broke in the steering, and needless to say when all was said and done, the car was
totaled. Not a straight panel left! Ended up selling the motor, trans and wheels to some guy
who needed it for an old mustang. And sold the interior to someone else, and the body to some
guy who was going to make a dirt track car out of it. But last I saw of it, it had made it to the
junkyard. So, here it is, ten years later, almost 2003! And I really want to find another '71
Grabber with factory high back buckets and shifter in the floor! Preferably black interior. I am
now married with a 4 year old, and a new one on the way. So there hasn't been much in the
way of funds lately with the wife not working.
I have started a new website that I hope will help accomplish this project. I have seen websites
on the net that ask visitors to "send me a dollar". And all they do is sit back and collect money.
Some report having received anywhere from $50 to $5000 bucks, and with no goal in mind.
My website has a goal! To build another Maverick! Check it out if you get time. Any help
would be much appreciated! The website isn't completely finished yet, but will be soon. So
far, I have made enough to purchase a complete, used 302 roller motor from a '92 Mustang. If
in the future, this website proves to help, I will build a 331 stroker out of it. And find me a '71
Mav to put it in..... Here is the link......www.hotrodfund.com Katfish

Good Deal for Freya... Freya was driving her Chevrolet Vega home in New Mexico
when she saw an elderly Apache woman walking along the side
of the road. She stopped the car and asked the woman if she
would like a lift?
With a silent nod, the woman climbed into the car. Freya tried
in vain to make conversation with the Apache woman.
The old Apache looked closely at everything she saw, studying
every little detail, until she noticed a red gift bag on the seat
next to Freya.
'What's in the bag?' asked the old woman.
'It's a bottle of whisky that I got for my husband.'
The Apache woman was silent for another minute or two. Then speaking with the quiet
wisdom of an elder, she said, 'Good trade.'
A True Car Story - Allegedly...
A man goes to a party and has too much to drink. His friends plead with him to let them
take him home. He says no - he only lives a mile away.
About five blocks from the party the police pull him over for weaving all over the road,
ask him to get out of the car and take the breathalyser test. Just as he is about to blow into
the bag, the police radio informs the policemen of a robbery
taking place in a house a short distance away.
The police tell the partygoer to remain where he is, they will
be right back; and they run down the street to the robbery.
The guy waits and waits and finally decides to drive home.
When he gets there, he tells his wife he is going to bed, and to tell anyone who might
come looking for him that he has 'flu and has been in bed all day.
A few hours later the police knock on the door. They ask if Mr. X lives there and his wife
says yes. They ask to see him and she replies that he is in bed with 'flu and has been there
all day. However, the police have his driver's license. They ask to see his car, and she asks
why. They insist on seeing his car, so she takes them to the garage and opens the door
where they find the police car, lights still flashing.
Interstate Problem
As Retired Lieutenant Commander Andrew Craig was driving his old car down the inter-
state, his cell phone rang. Answering, he heard his wife's voice urgently warning him,
'Andrew, I just heard on the news that there's a car going the wrong way on I 295. Please
be careful!'
'Botheration, 'said Andrew, 'Its not just one car. Its hundreds of them!'
