Car Communication Device and Data Acquisition: Pre-built GSM/GPS module with EVB boardType: SIM 548 Quad-Band GSM/GPRS+GPS Module with EVB boardRelevant Characteristics: - 4 RS232 compatible serial port 2 for GSM module and 2 for GPS module - GSM module compatible with standard “AT” commands - GPS module using NMEA-0183 protocolPurpose: - Provide communication between the user and the microcontroller. - Data acquisition from GPS module in standard NMEA format.

Microcontroller: Communication, Alarm, Car LogicType: PIC18F87J10 – 80 Pin, High-Performance with nano Watt TechnologyRelevant Characteristics: - 80 PINS TQFP packaging - Flash internal memory, 128 Kbytes ROM, 3936 bytes RAM - CPU speed 40 MHZ - 80 PINS - 2 internal Enhanced Universal Synchronous Asynchronous Receiver Transmitter (USART) - 9 I/O ports with 64 I/O pinsPurpose: - Respond and process user requests via SMS (Short Messaging System) - Control the GSM module and acquire GPS data - Implements car starter, alarm system and car control interface o Alarm system monitors door sensors o Acquires GPS data to monitor displacement o Alarm triggers siren and notifies user via SMS with GPS data o Car starter implements start car, stop car and car status.

5 Car InterfaceRelevant Characteristics: - 4 vehicle to microcontroller interfaces - 3 microcontroller to vehicle interfaces - 1 tachometer detection circuit - 3 12 Volt - 30 Amp relays with minimum 2.5V latching coils - 600mA 2N2222A transistorsPurpose:- Handles the differences in voltage and current requirements between the vehicle and microcontroller inputs and outputs.- Prevents voltage spikes and current surges on the inputs from damaging the microcontroller.- Provides a fast tachometer detector for detection of a running engine.
