The Club committee and o!cials worked again with a lot of enthusiasm and e"ort to re-align the Club and its structure to the growth in recent years. Some of the obvious results are the Club’s new constitution, the mission statement, several policies and the online registration that made the registration process so much easier for many at the beginning of the season.

The result of the work on and o" the field is a range of premierships, gala day winners and a healthy club. I would like to thank all those who have contributed to this success.

Enjoy this yearbook and learn all details of the many heroes of Greenwich Sports Club.

Yet another successful season is over. In its 74th year,

Greenwich Sports Club was bigger than ever: 517 players

in 37 football and netball teams from under 6 years of age

up to over 45.

The Club is proud to have achieved several firsts and

records this year, including an U18 football team, a record

number of all girls football teams, an adult netball team

and a record of five female junior referees.

UNDER 6 EAGLES

So what will we remember? The smiles, the laughs, a few tears, and the cheers.

Back row: Mark O’Leary (Assistant coach) Indrik Kalnins (Coach) Leon Woodiwiss (Assistant coach). Middle row: Lachlan Passmore, Callum Astles, Alexander Weston, Talis Kalnins, Machlin O’Ryan, Jeremy Karagania. Front row: David O’Leary, Willoughby Thomas, Jake Woodiwiss, Mitchell Lane, Jasmine Burnard-Leppinus

Was 2010 a vintage year? In one sense, yes, as Spain won the World Cup in South Africa. In another, perhaps not, as Greenwich Eagles didn’t soar to great heights, with a record that reads something like played lots, lost lots.

But after a sticky start, when the team was busiest picking the ball out of its own goalmouth, the team gradually gelled, got a sense of purpose and determination, and suddenly started playing football. And the supporters went wild as those goals went in!

So what will we remember of the season? The smiles, the laughs, a few tears, and the cheers.

Callum - never took a backward step. Talis - kept going despite some knocks. Jeremy - always gave a good run for the ball. Mitchell - sometimes dreamy, made some great stops. David - played hard and worked hard. Machlin - scored 4 goals first and never looked back. Lachie - started tracking back like a pro. Obi - liked to chat, and liked to play. Alexander - never stopped running. Jake - fast with a grin and fast on his feet. A late starter, Jasmine showed some great footwork.

In the end, thanks to the fine coaching team of Indrik, Mark, Leon and John, who kept turning out to encourage, cajole, persuade, and generally ensure everyone had fun. Oh, and all the volunteers who took a turn at being ref, good e"ort!

The Goannas grew in confidence, skill and reputation with each passing week. After losing the first game of the season, the Goannas regrouped, trained hard and won the next 13 games straight including Gala Day.

Alex was a goal scoring machine with a spectacular sliding tackle.

Anuj showed versatility around the ground and was cool under pressure.

Daniel played a strong midfield game with determination and courage.

Declan

Denis was briefly a Goanna and made an immediate impact.

Edward developed his running game with sharp attacking breaks.

Hugo was relentless on the ball and always took the game up to the opposition.

Johnny was a super boot with long range kicking for goal and strong defence.

Luke

Peter was a strong presence in the pack and knew how to find the goals.

Thomas was the defensive sweeper with long attacking bursts to goal.

Will combined attacking strikes with pressure defending under sustained attack.

Yi Wen was always close to the action with strong clearing kicks in defence.

Special thanks to coach Matt for his dedication, humour and patience. Thanks also to Derek for his coaching assistance, refs Ralf and Steve, manager David and to a great bunch of supportive parents who made the season fun for all.

...a delightful mixture of personalities and abilities...

Back (L-R): Samuel Shepherd, Maia Chand, Yasmina Ryan, Joshua Bayliss-Smith, James Oliver, Zachary Law, Super Mario. Front (L-R): Madeleine Shadforth, Darcy Haron, Ned Astridge, Xavier Morgan, Hugh Simpson, Hugo Richardson.

I have thoroughly enjoyed managing the Super Marios this year. They are a team with a delightful mixture of personalities and abilities.

Starting with the second season veterans; Hughie the soccer hound sni"ed out opportunities and scored, Hugo-A-Go-Go goes for goals, Xavier X-tremely dependable in defence, and Zac the Zipper - closed gaps in the field faster than a speedy soccer ball.

Then the soccer pedigrees; Daring Darcy displayed some fancy footwork, Josh the slide tackling, mud magnet, Sam the super goal scorer, Ned “The Natural”, and James the red flash, kicking goals like a pro.

Finally, youthful enthusiasm from the newcomers; Maddy who added style to the field, Maia the magical rebounder, and Yasmina blossoming into a great little player.

won their respect after a few post-training wrestles. We all really appreciated Mark’s enthusiasm in getting everyone involved and honing particular skills. Stephen Shepherd has done a great job assisting Mark on match days.

Stephen Morgan took on the job of chief ref with great gusto and impressed us all with his knowledge and ability to keep the games moving. Thanks also to Patrick Oliver and Adam Simpson in this area. Thanks to Andrew Richardson as “assistant manager”. Everyone has joined in and made a huge e"ort to make this season a very enjoyable one. Go the Super Marios!

Back Row: Rebecca Levett; Sophia Massaro; Daniel Devaris; Charlie Pate; Owen Capling; Nicholas Hattingh. Front Row: Layla Todd; Bella Watts; Wil Tucker; Sienna Shipman; Alex Simos. Absent: Max Tian

This season saw Kirsty Massaro take 12 fantastic, dedicated and very eager U6’s (with the assistance of Michele Simos and Holiday coaches Bill & Heather Pate) into a team of skilled soccer players with a huge desire for goals and Jelly Snakes.

We saw some outstanding play throughout the season leading to many P.O.D’s and WOW awards handed out, with Charlie Pate being our outstanding goal scorer with 21 goals, greatly assisting in our 6 wins, 6 losses for the season.

Nicki Hattingh on 15 goals with some brilliant defense in goal. Layla Todd was outstanding with her breakaways leading to an impressive 14 goals. Alex Simos showed his brilliance at striker many times a game. Enabling our top scorers to get down the field were Owen Capling with his massive kicks, Daniel Devaris with his outstanding speed coupled with fantastic dribbling skills. Something also shown by Wil Tucker and Sofia Massaro, who also showed extremely tight ball control resulting in some great WOW moments.

Also making those moments were Bella Watts with some amazing footwork and sweeping passes. In those moments were we needed defense we always had Rebecca Levett with her phenomenal tackles, and Sienna Shipman with positive energy and commitment to defense. Rounding o" our team of stars was Max Tian, our most improved team member, a shining star keeping the whole team energized throughout a fun season.

L-R: Matthew H, Archie H, Tomer O, Jackson C, Jesse M, Tom L, Charlie C, Liam P. Inset: Coach Deb. Absent: H Dundon, F Dundon & D Mayhew

Archer - The greenest pair of boots ever seen, we never lost him at training! A “most improved” player of the season, well done Archie!Charlie - We just expected Charlie to work hard and pop those goals in every week... and he did! Skill, enthusiasm, and a great goal scorer!Dominic - Dominic has not reached his full potential yet, but when the planets were aligned and conditions perfect, Dominic was really getting the hang of it, great e"ort!Finn - Great start, improving in stamina and focus every week. After a break abroad, let’s hope he gives soccer another try next year. Well done!Harry - Busy feet - Harry never stopped running and keeping up with the game, hopefully he will come back for another go next season. Well done!Jackson - After a fabulous start – and one of the best goals ever seen! – we lost Jackson to a broken arm but once fit, the unplastered Jackson came back to previous form in around 3 minutes! Well done!Jesse - When Jesse was “in the zone” there was no stopping him! One goal was particularly memorable, Jesse sna#ing the ball from a scrum and taking it all the way to the net, Fantastic!Liam - Liam would happily stay on the soccer field all day and night. Once on top of his emotions, Liam was fearless, a tireless player who never gave up, even when the score was heavily against us. Well done!Matthewposition. A natural defender. Well done, Matthew!Tomer - The smallest soccer boots I have ever seen but by jingo they can pack a punch! Tomer had a knack of getting into a great attacking position, and for of course, “blocking!” Well done!Tom - I hope that having his Mum “coaching” the team hasn’t cramped his style too much. Tom has tried hard, scored goals and never given up. Well done!Massive “thank yous” for our ever-e!cient manager Sally, Sesh and all the parents for coming to training and the matches.

a great season with superb sportsmanship by our youngsters

Back row: William Stormont, Archie Douglas, Bronte Hodson, Kara Selvarajah, Joseph Rooney, Rohan Amir. Front row: Baxter Wilson, Bo Burton, Griffin Hall, Sofia Naran, Dan Wartho, Alec Wartho. Absent: Liam Dundon

It was a numbers game from start to finish! Enormous e"ort went into pulling the team together creating pre-season drama as the numbers kept moving. Were there to be three U7 teams or two? Who were the mysterious Wartho twins? Would we be able to keep our old team (Volcanoes) intact?

challenges, a new team (and new team name), some new friends (the twins!), reunion

The twins hailed from England and brought with them impressive soccer skills. They went on to form the basis of our cohort of star strikers, Dan (who was out with a broken arm at the start of the season) scored an impressive 18 goals all up, with Alex close behind on 12. Bo, Baxter, Archie and Joseph also worked well in front of goal with some neat footwork translating into some impressive results. Liam (who missed the end of the season) showed great initial promise scoring several goals in his early games. Great support was provided up front by Kara, Sofia, Rohan and Bronte, including some who were playing soccer for their first ever season (special mention Gri!n!). Whilst the four aside format and smaller sized pitch meant all had a role in defence, most notable was Will for his single minded focus on guarding the home goal.

Our match results reflected a great deal of hard work and e"ort by the whole team (including parents) - a mixed draw saw mixed results with 13 games played (at the time of writing) we have celebrated success 5 times, been defeated 6 times and drawn one game.

Our coach (Midi), ref (Mick) and manager (Mary) all did a great job, ably supported by our players parents - special mention to the James’ and Ben for general help and enthusiasm. All up a great season with superb sportsmanship by our youngsters who are developing into an all round star team.

Forget about the Year of the Tiger, 2010 was the Year of the Chargers!

retained our great coaching sta". It was always going to be a great season and we couldn’t wait for it to start. We began training in earnest in mid April and things were looking positive. Our attack was on the mark, our midfielders were always keen for the ball, and our defence was showing great signs of discipline.

With a large pool of talent to choose from, we had to form a roster for each match day. It was sad, but touching to see the tears when kids were told they weren’t playing that day – what camaraderie – but they still came and cheered for their beloved Chargers.

Despite the rain interrupting many of our training sessions, our players showed great maturity in remembering what the coaches told them – long kicks, passes, always chase the ball but don’t tackle your own team, and most importantly HAVE FUN!

With an average of 4.4 goals per match we were right up there with the best under 7 teams. It must have been the constant supply of snakes which kept them going.

What a pleasure being involved in this team. Great and committed parents, and kids who really love the game.

the team has risen to the challenge and all contributed to success...

The U8 Crocodiles have had an outstanding 2010 Cup campaign. Despite needing to grapple with a new set of rules for the age group each has risen to the challenge and all contributed to success. Left to right:

Jack ‘Schweinsteiger’ Toll – brought a heightened attacking game to the pitch and demonstrated great potential; leaving only minor casualties.

Baxter ‘Puyol’ Watt – overcome some early trepidation to become a defending powerhouse.

Holly ‘Cassillas’ Barling – stranded on the bench through injury for the early part of the season, she bounded back to display gifted hands as keeper and was an able defender.

Haylee ‘Lahm’ Jones – had a smashing rookie season displaying huge commitment in the midfield and defence.

Becky ‘Ramos’ Hodson – grasped the elements of positional play early in the season and could be relied upon to be solid in midfield and defence.

Zara ‘Xavi’ Dawkins – lithe and agile in attack she left the opposition floundering in her wake.

Luke ‘Sneijder’ Easton – demonstrated exceptional ball control to dominate the midfield and had adept shooting accuracy.

Isaac ‘Forlan’ Edmonds – star performance in the midfield and attack, with a strong claim on the Golden Boot.

Christian ‘Maicon’ Knight – the all rounder for the season, could be relied upon to clear loose balls in defence and find the net in attack.

Jaxon ‘Villa’ Burnard Leppinus – gave a tireless 110% commitment to relentlessly chase the ball in defence and attack with vengeance.

Declan ‘Iniesta‘ Haywood – made solid progress to develop great ball control in the midfield and a determination in the other half to drop some between the posts.

2010 was a successful year with the side winning more than we lost, and scoring more than we conceded. Even in the games lost, the team played with a determined spirit; being competitive in every game.

The measure of success at this level is really how much the players enjoy the game, and from this perspective, the season was outstanding.

The whole team moved forward in their football development this year, with the arts of attacking, defending and goal-keeping being introduced for the first time. All players got a taste of each form of the game, and by the end of the year, our players discipline and organisation was far superior to that of our opposition.

2010 was a great year for gaining experience in the new (and often confusing) world of Netta for our U8s team. Whilst our basketballers were grappling with the plethora of new netta rules, many of the other girls had virtually no experience of passing, shooting and marking opponents. Nevertheless, the girls turned up each week with plenty of smiles, enthusiasm and a small dose of cheekiness, and had a lot of fun in the process.

Our scorecard has not shown many wins over the season, but with definite improvements week on week. We are ending the season as we mean to begin the next, with back-to-back wins.

Many thanks to Deb Ryan for coaching the girls – Deb’s experience and knowledge have been invaluable. Thank you also to Edwina Thackray and Maddie Faigen, our marvellous assistant coaches. Thank you also to Alice and April for additional netta wisdom!

2011 promises to be a great year for our team, as we build on the foundation of skills that we have learned over the past season.

UNDER 9 THUNDERBIRDS

Anyone who may have witnessed the Thunderbirds do battle will confirm that a few paragraphs cannot do justice to the world of emotion which surrounds these boys and their sport… as individuals and as a team, their competitive spirit and desire is relentless. They were sometimes distracted, random and forthright. At other times they were focused and united. But most importantly they came together as friends to play hard when they were down and celebrate when they won.

So here’s a few memories that will hopefully reflect the e"orts of each of these great kids:

Jackson tackling and attacking with tenacious energy Oskar swerving and faking his way through the defence John tearing the back of the net with a blistering left boot Elliott celebrating another well crafted goal Nik’s red face as testament to his constant attack and defence Fin being the rock at the back and never giving up Jonah sliding with desperation in defence and attacking up the line Harry growing in confidence and determination with every pass

In the years ahead, these boys will all be great at whatever they do. For this year, it has been a joy to observe their desire, passion, energy and commitment and experience the ups and downs that comes with a team committed to fun and to football.

Special thanks to Kate who did a great job organising everyone through the year and John Wardman for his judicious role with the whistle.

Joshua Callaway – Star forward with e"ortless skill in goal scoring, including bagging 4 in one game. Great positional player.

Joshua Dong – Fast and strong in the midfield. Some great charging runs with the ball.

Billy Keall – Best slide tackler and strong mid-fielder. Great pace with super skills on the ball, and great long range strikes on goal.

Jesse Merhi – Strong in goals and starred as a striker. Pulled o" some big strikes on goal.

Ryan Moss – Always in the right spot. Scored a cracker in his first - and our most di!cult - game.

Aidan Powter – Star defender with the ability to turn defence into attack with his probing runs forward. Lethal tackler.

Damon Swan – Rock solid in defence and strong in goals. Late season change in direction allowed us to see his potential as a goal scoring striker.

Adam Swiderski – Saved us nearly every game with his level headed defence, speed on the ball and great clearances.

Nine little girls went out to play. Over the hills, not too far away.

Caitlin, poached from England, with an antelope’s grace. Her height and speed took her game to a great place

Sophie, a tiger, fooled other teams by looking cute. But her determination and grand throws left parents mute

Little Bella found she could dart in and out like a dragonfly. Quiet at first she really knew how to try

Victoria smiled & smiled, our happy kangaroo. As her skills improved she learnt to hop into space too.

Emma, a leopard, could really change her spots. Great in defence and attack she can go to the top

Anika the eagle soared to the netball post and scored. She brought experience, reliability and a lot more

Nina, an all rounder, had the top goal scorer’s notch. Like a zebra she earned her stripes and was beautiful to watch

Amelie played like a puppy, energetic, agile, hard to catch. She also made us laugh with her antics at coaching and the match

A deer in all ways was Lara so keen to learn more. Solid in shooting and o"ence she is one not to ignore

Finally manager Sharon so organised and the purveyor of fun and coach Jane so proud of her team and thought they were number one!

The GU10 team had a great season - they ran alot, laughed alot and now understand the meaning of ‘use the shoulder’. The team is a mixture of year 3 and year 4 girls who have got to know each other a little better over the season.

A great coaching team led by Brendan Morse with support coaches Simon McDonald and Jim Claren ensured the girls had su!cient skills to commentate on all world cup games.

We are hoping the 2011 season will bring us a few more wins - go girls!

The team has been very successful this year, losing only one game with a narrow loss of 3-4, and we are looking forward to utilizing our dazzling combined skills to produce our best performance in the finals!

Coach: Manny Mellos. Top: Jack Forest, Giorgio Mellos, Sam Bailes, Joe Unwin, Hunter Wardman, Dan Hawkins, Inset: Aiden Gaete. Bottom: Steven Cottle, Henrik Poole, Jayin Naran, Martin Gossow, John Boyd, Tom Rasmussen.

This season the under 11s set themselves a couple of goals. The primary one was to learn to play less as individuals and more as a team. Our motto from the onset was “A team of champions will never beat a champion team”. There was some doubt from some, but as we improved as a team, the results reflected the e"ort and wins eventually came our way.

As coach I enjoyed training and challenging the boys. Playing as a team was not the only objective. I wanted the boys to realise that from next year, they will be playing

sacrifice for the sake of the team. The team comes before the individual. That’s what I tried to instill in the boys, to prepare them for the competitive phase of their football, if they choose to continue in that direction.

And they got it. Never complaining, always trying and always following instructions. I’m proud of their achievements, and meeting our objectives. And I’m sure their future coaches will also be proud of them.

...they are a Band of Brothers who know how to play to each others strengths...

This season marks the seventh year together as a team for this group of boys and the last year for them at Greenwich Public School. Whilst some have already left the school we have managed to keep them involved in the team which has led to a bit more depth of talent in the team. At this point they are a Band of Brothers who know how to play to each others strengths and overcome any individual weakness by sheer team will-power. It is common for other teams to comment how well they play as an integrated team.

Most importantly, this has been a great season for this team with 9 wins, 3 draws and only 1 loss. There is still one more game to play at the time of writing and we expect to finish second on the ladder for the season. We scored 39 goals with only 14 scored against us. All in all a very successful season for the boys.

Players (Front row L-R; Back row L-R) William Feyen – Mr Acrobatic. What will he do next? Ben Sykes – Our Timmy Cahill. Mr. Right Place, Right time. David Sykes – the flash on the left wing. Mr. Never Stop Trying. Ethan Merrick – the best goalie in the league. Saved too many goals to count. David Burton – Mr Consistency. Matt Rootsey – our import – from the 11A’s. Mr Fearless. Matthew Chhoeu – The rock in our wall of defence. Alex Selvarajah – The Flash. Here, there and everywhere. Ben Ingram – The Boot with some great runs and crosses. Nicholas Lupton – Always there to foil the opposition strikers. Angus Dowey – Kept the opposition defence guessing. Dylan Foo – Our own Mark Viduka. Controlled the centre of the field this year. Karun Bhandari – Mr Smooth Operator. Alexander Dong – one of our speedsters. (not in picture). Ben Marquard – the flash on the right wing. (not in picture).

The Greenwich U12 team had another excellent year putting together some of the most memorable games they have ever played. The line up was; Giles a very determined player and could turn the ball on a dime, Arabella who nailed the midfield and showed great talent and exceptional improvement, Carl still speedy as ever covering left wing and flying around the pitch, Alex who controlled the midfield, fuelled by beans, Emma who ran past more of the opposition than there are co"ees sold at the local cafe, Harrison an incredibly dangerous player who took the ball o" even the biggest opposition, Joshua with field position and a strike only the Socceroos could pretend to copy, Lewis who played twice his size on the field, scuppering many an unsuspecting attack, Lilly holding the right back and fearlessly crunching anyone who dare enter her space, Matthew F. who found his calling in the midfield with an awesome boot, Matthew W. swooping around the centre backs foiling many an attack and smiling at the same time, Teague blisteringly fast in the midfield with some great runs at the opposition goal and Sam saving shot after shot then getting out into the field for some payback –what a boot!

Managing the funsters this year was Sabrina and doing the coaching, Andrew and Paul. Thanks to all the Parental Units for their support, snakes, oranges and co"ee. Good luck with everything in 2011!

What a thrill it has been to see this group of girls develop into a fantastic team of determined and excited players.

There has been great defence on the court from Isabel Martins who is fearless and tireless in her approach on the court.

Imogen Nevell is a seasoned defender always chasing down the ball and breaking free to feed the ball to the attack.

Beatrice Makeig has been versatile as a defender and an attacker, excellent in either position, a true all rounder.

Annabelle Boutobia is a strategic player who has staked her claim as a savvy and always smiling defender.

Yasmine Salionas, a new recruit, is fast as lightening on the court and has a great knack of positioning herself in the right place on the court.

Madeleine McDonald is simply everywhere on the court, fast and furious in every direction, a dynamo.

Louise Woodward is a natural defender and a superb attacker, always a threat to her opposition wherever she plays.

In Laurel Ridley we have discovered a star goal shooter with some seemingly impossible shots finding their way through the hoop.

Annabelle Corbett is a joy to watch as a goal shooter, she can outsmart and outrun the tallest of opposition.

Above all the greatest magic in the team has been seeing the smiles on the faces of this wonderful group of girls all season. Particular thanks to our wonderful coaches Alexis Cahalan and Andrea Strong whose patience and commitment have brought out the best in the girls. Finally, thanks to our manager Helen Martins for keeping the team administratively smart and scoring all season.

A tough but memorable season with some fantastic efforts...

The U14s had a tough season, but overall the matches were relatively close, with some matches separated by only one goal, the first being the opening game.

The U14 succeeded 2009’s U13 team, a team that scored 75 goals in its season in Division Four. This year, two divisions higher, the players from the last year’s U13s knew that this season would not be so easy. With new additions to the team including Jackson, Robert, Matt, Jake, Will, Hugh, Angus and Zac; the team was up for the Division Two challenge.

Often players were absent due to commitments elsewhere, and the team was left short of eleven players to face a full side with substitutes, or even forced to forfeit. But thanks to some help from the U12 and G16 teams this didn’t happen too often. The team was also reduced in size due to injuries to Connor and Ashley.

Over the full season, the defence consisted of Matt, Justin, Will, Kieran, Ben and Zac. The central third of the pitch was occupied by Ash, Liam, Jayden, Jake, Robert, Jackson and Hugh; while the attacking midfielders and strikers were Richard, Connor, Angus and Jesse.

Thanks go to the people involved in organising and coaching the team. The coaching was done by Mike Almond and Ray Vaughn with Chris D’Cruz and Dennis Karp also helping out, while the team was managed by Avril Fallat and Marysia Jackson.

Our most successful season to date...

Back Row: Cloe Brasier, Rebecca Karslake, Eleanor Armati, (Simon Taylor - Coach), Ella Faigen, Veronica Sue. Front Row: MacKenzie Taylor, Ellie Campbell (& Cleo), Gabriella Stiff, Holly Tarode, Emma Laubi, Lizzy Rogers, Hannah Bhindi, Lilly Woodham, Jacquie Thackray.

2010 was the fourth year this great team has played together, and while we only had 10 games during the regular season due to byes and all the nasty rain this year, this has been our most successful season to date.

The girls won 6 of their games this year in the G14 third division, including a winning streak of 4 in a row at the back end of the season, providing the girls with lots of opportunity to perfect their winning team song, and to indulge in their traditional post match celebration which provides so much amusement to so many, - everyone indeed except the coach!

We didn’t score a huge number of goals this year, and while our team of strikers often showed an uncanny ability to shoot straight at the goalie, most of our strikers got on the board this year. Chloe, - who was our golden boot winner this year, Claudia, Emma, Lilly, Eimer, and Kenzie all scoring some wonderful goals, while our regular team of strikers, - Veronica, Holly, Lilly and Chloe, - provided us with many magical moments of high drama

The regular backline of Lizzie, Gabby, Ellie, Kenzie, Claudia and Steph were very reliable and strong and conceded very few goals. The large contingent in the midfield of Eleanor, Emma, Hannah, Bec, Eimer, and Ella supported each other well, tackled strongly all year and generally outperformed their opposition as the year went on.

It was great to see all the girls stick together this year after leaving Greenwich Primary for their high schools, enjoying their mates and enjoying their soccer, - which at the end of the day is what it’s truly all about.

An enjoyable, and highly successful season

previous Girls Under 14s – Lauren Anderson, Georgia Bailes, Jemili Boutros, Catherine Doherty, Chelsea Brasier, Maddy Faigen, Sarah Feyen, Tala Gray-Spencer, Lauren Tam, Matilda Unwin and Matilda Vaughan were joined by new recruits Ashlea Peck and Anna

Isobel McDonald, Kate Hodson.

Lauren Anderson unfortunately su"ered a serious injury and was unable to play for the entire season but remained with us in spirit and visited us several times during training to support the team.

In an outstanding season, the girls played 14 matches for a record of 10 wins and 2 draws plus only two losses and each time by only one goal. They scored 40 goals and conceded only 16 and given that 3 of those were penalties, to concede less than one open play goal per match was a tribute to their focus. Our attack originated from good possession

position in the team forward of the defensive line scored during the season.

Perhaps more remarkably, the team has girls who range in age from 13 years to 16 years and yet the harmony and combined e"ort towards a shared goal was without doubt their greatest achievement. An enjoyable, and highly successful season with strong contributions – to football, character and humour from the whole team.

“Besides having the hottest legs in the team, Anne ain’t bad at netball either! Our trusty, reliable & competitive WA!”

“Cass is the absolute legend, multi-talented and smiling, regardless of injury! You go girl!”

“Jackie is fun and supportive, and a much better GS that she thinks she is! Rarely misses!”

“Karen, GD or Gorgeous Diva, has it all: long legs for jumping, long arms to intercept and a calm happy temperament that keeps us all smiling.”

A great season. Congratulations to all.

New season, new coach. The aim this year was to better last years result and also hopefully eliminate 2009 feelings and comments that the past experiences in Division 1 were “not pleasant”!

So 2010 saw the training sessions deal with more theory and skills polishing, and judging by the smiles (and goals) I think our aim was not only surpassed but also, to say that a much improved enthusiasm and increased “pleasantness” was achieved was an understatement!

to start with some impressive and cohesive football. Like all teams we had our high and low moments... winning most weeks (one result was 6 – 0) then an uncharacteristic 0-0 draw with the bottom team! Football can be a bewildering and unpredictable game.

As the season progressed, the A’s took a firm hold on second spot on the ladder and pressed hard to knock Kissing Point from the top but it was not to be. At seasons end we finished in 2nd spot. Then, after winning an aggressive (Karen should be out on parole shortly) semi final, we went into the Grand Final to play Kissing Point yet again – our nemesis throughout the season.

In an extremely hard fought game on a Pottery Green battleground we took the lead but were just pipped in a super tight match that was our hardest so far, going down 2-1 at the final whistle.

All in all – a great season. Congratulations to all. I hope you all enjoyed this years football as much as I did coaching a great bunch of talented players.

Thanks to Annette V. for all things managerial o" the park and behind the scenes, also to those from the B and C teams that helped us fill the match card in our times of need.

As Coach, Greg Unwin has brought out a level of skill & tactical play that has shown us results on the scoreboard & confidence in ourselves as a team. His belief in our ability and his attitude to fair play has proven invaluable and we would not have achieved this fantastic result without him.

Players Player Award for 2010: Rebecca Cleary. Runner Up: Elise O’Connor Scott. Champion Goal Scorers: Lisa Brink and Cindy Todd. Greatest Goalies: Sue De Kock & Nicola Pain. Spirit of Football: Janet Burke.

An Award should go to all players for their tenacity, sheer hard work & support of each other. A thoroughly enjoyable season with great results. You are a team that is devoid of petulance, pettiness, nastiness, arrogance and mean spirit...”

You couldn’t wish for a nicer bunch of guys to get together on the weekend...

Bottom (L-R): Martin Cunningham, Craig Poole, Geoff Gallimore, Mark Sercombe, Mortie Faghani, Kim Rasmussen. Missing: Damien Boyd, Dennis Karp, Mark Merrick, Jonathan Trollip, Brett Haywood.

After a year’s pause, Greenwich was finally able to again put a new and revitalized O45 men’s team together. Numbers looked a bit thin at the start, but after some active recruiting we were able to entice enough players to sign up and enjoy a season of high-class, action-paced and high-scoring football. Well, that was certainly our intention, and even though the team has cemented their rightful place in the bottom third of the ladder, it was never short of energy, spirit and enthusiasm. You couldn’t wish for a nicer bunch of guys to get together on the weekend and kick a ball around.

A couple of special mentions go to: Simon Taylor, whose outstanding goal-keeping e"orts saved us many points, and he even managed to fit in 4 matches in one long weekend; Graeme and Craig Poole, whose skills, elegance and attitude kept the team going even after our legs refused to work any harder; Mark Merrick whose career this year was far too short and who finished his season one Saturday by turning up late, scoring a decisive goal and then getting a season-ending injury – all in the space of 5 minutes; and George Sideris whose been in this team for a few years now, turns up to every match and always shows great spirit in the face of adversity (which is the other teams’ strong defences which were often just a touch too di!cult for us to get around).

A special thanks goes to the 3 referees (Frank Hamersley, Martin Cunningham and Je" Gallimore) and the volunteer linesmen who gave up many afternoons to o!ciate the O45 1pm games. Also to Manny Mellos, who this year was our de-facto coach and who organized the Wed night training sessions and kept supplying us with match balls and encouragement.

The Greenwich Club would not function without the help of the many men and women who volunteer their time to keep the club running. The O45s team would like to thank every single one of them for their time and support this year, and it allowed us to have a great season that went smoothly from player registration all the way to the final presentation night.

a renewed sense of optimism and some great performances...

ALL AGE

1) Was the season a success or failure? Now in a league that suited us, a renewed sense of optimism and some great performances. Finishing position didn’t do us justice. 7/10

2) How did the manager do? Rhydian Giles has always wanted a big club and now we can all see why. Outstanding e"ort, conjuring sustained consistency from Peter Restuccia, Michael Bourne, and Hugo Thistlewood. Even more of an achievement given he was without Scotty Grant for two months. 8/10

3) First Grade Player of the season: Chris Pook A tough call. There is a shout for Ash Cowan or Brendan Watson, but for sheer spirit and resolve, capturing the renewed enthusiasm of the club, it’s got to go to Pookie. 9/10

4) Reserve Grade Player of the season: James Greenwood Playing week in week out. Always dependable. Always gives 100%. 9/10

5) Best signing: Mike Nixon The England man was a revelation between the sticks. Commanded his area and defenders knew they could count on him. Just don’t mention the first goal against him vs Kissing Point. 9/10

6) Worst signing: Juan Pablo Average performances then buggered o" when asked to pay rego. 2/10

7) Best game Suprisingly the first grade 2-1 loss at Mount Colah. The boys put in a gargantuan e"ort and each worked with each other to put in a real team performance. Result was irrelevant.

8) Worst game

the dictionary. And they had a girl playing…

9) Funniest moment of the season Scotty Grant’s sit down hissy fit at the ref when playing St Ives away

THREE CHEERS

Not many people are aware of the tireless work the committee and the GSC support team puts in to make the season come together. Special thanks goes to this valued group of people

POSITIONS VACANTClub President – coast fame on the coat tails of a Master Your chance to wear cloth of royalty (well almost).

Yes, our humble leader Andreas Laubi, steps down from his mantle after this season. Which for someone aspiring to greatness, o"ers the perfect entree. And what’s more, you’ll be able to coast in and capitalize on all of the hard work Andreas has put in to building the club infrastructure so really, all the hard work is done!

So when you turn up on Picnic Day, take your turn in the collapsible Bunnings chair and enjoy a little hero worship … who knows, you might be the next person to etch your name in Greenwich SC folklore.

Registrar/Recorder – want to be in the engine room of the club? This position is made for you then… you will know the ins and outs of everyone in the Club as well as who won and who lost. It’s a role that will consume the perfectionist and is ideal for the organizer and manager in you.

As Greg Unwin steps down, its time to step up. Bring your clip board to Gala Day and give it a try – you won’t regret it.

Netball Convener – take the helm of a real sport You could do to Netball in Australia what Frank Lowy has done for football. Yes, we may be the current world champions but the crowds are not there yet. But they are coming like a tsunami and there’s massive momentum building in Greenwich (as our first Women’s All Age will testify). This is your chance to lead the charge.

So hang up your bib and step up in 2011 to fill the big Nike’s left by Alexis Cahalan.

Football referees

Netball umpires

SPECIAL MENTIONThis year we had a record number of club members refereeing/umpiring. This included five female football referees for the first time… and they are only 13 or 14!
