So far it’s been a tough season with

many ups and downs, but finally

we’ve reached the all important

Schools’ Cup. Our young side, with

six year 12s in Saturdays starting

XV, will have gained confidence

from hard fought wins against BRA

and most recently against a strong St

Michaels side in Dublin, both having

came from behind at half-time.

Looking ahead to Saturday, we face

a huge challenge, but a challenge we

can overcome if we all perform to our

potential and believe in ourselves on

the day. Last year Dalriada narrowly

defeated us in their own back yard in

the Subsidiary Shield semi-final. This

year with home advantage, we feel

we owe them one. I have no doubt

we are capable of achieving a rever-

sal of the previous result. I know all

the boys will be 100% up for it come

kick off on Saturday and we will

leave absolutely nothing on the field.

I look forward to seeing our support

on the touch line and would like to

thank the continued support through

out the season and long may it

continue.

THOUGHTS ON THE SEASON

As generic as it sounds

the season has had

some highs but quite a

lot of lows. We have

had some great results,

being 20 points down

against Belfast Royal

Academy in the first 5

minutes and coming

back to win, beating

St. Michaels on tour,

to name but a few.

We have lacked

consistency though,

putting in weak perfor-

mances against Belfast

High and CCB. Over

the past month it has

changed.

The tour

was great

and gave us

conf idence

going into

the new

year.

Training has improved

greatly through more

people attending and

taking it more serious-

ly. This makes it far

more intense and

beneficial.

Page 9: Gryphiti: Schools' Cup 2015 BGS vs Dalriada

1. How excited are the

team ahead of the new

Schools’ Cup campaign?

WL: “The team are

really excited, training

has been to a very high

standard this week and

we are can't wait until

kick off.”

2. Tell us about the

tour, it sounded like you

had quite a time.

WL: “The tour was

really beneficial to the

squad. It brought us

tighter together and

winning against St

Michael's was a turning

point in our season, we

really had to stick together

on the pitch.”

3. What have you

learnt from the game

against Dalriada last

year that you can put

into practice today?

WL: “We've done our

homework on them and

are confident our game

plan will get us the

result.”

4. How do you plan to

continue your rugby

career post-school?

WL: “Who knows? I

will continue playing at

uni.”

PLAYER PROFILE

FIVE MINUTES WITH… WILL LOGAN

Jonny Baxter had a trou-

bled 2013/2014 season,

most of which was spent

on the sidelines through a

recurring knee injury

picked up in only the sec-

ond game of the season.

He recovered to feature as

a substitute in last year’s

Schools’ Cup, but it was

too little too late to make

an impact.

One year later, evidence of

Jonny’s knee injury is

only visible through the

protective strapping which

he wears, and the winger

has featured in the majori-

ty of games, scoring a total

of 7 tries. Baxter has been

a big threat to other teams

with an ability to power

through gaps in opposing

defences with speed and

precision. The indiscipline

and rough edges he may

have showed in previous

seasons have been replaced

with a rounded and pol-

ished façade and he is now

a main feature of any

BGS win.
