Great Job! 4-H & FFA Families-

Thank you to all exhibitors and families for making the 2017 Montgomery County Fair great! I enjoyed watching you all succeed and learn from your projects you exhibited throughout the week. I would like to send a special thanks to all superintendents, leaders, auction buyers, community members and volunteers for your unending hard work and support of the Montgomery County Fair. Without all of you the 2017 Montgomery County Fair would not have been possible.

Another thank you to the Montgomery County Fair Board, without your great partnership with ISU Extension and Outreach we would not have the wonderful fair we do. Your hard work and dedication to the Montgomery County Fair does not go unnoticed and we appreciate all your efforts.

Congratulations to Rachel Bergren on accepting the Program Coordinator position at the Montgomery County Extension Office. With this staff change we will be looking to hire another County Youth Coordinator (CYC). Applications for the CYC position will be accepted until August 18, 2017.

Lastly, I would like to thank the rest of the Montgomery County Extension staff for their hard work and long hours over the past two weeks.

Iowa State Fair All exhibitors selected for State Fair should have received a letter during county fair containing information about transportation of your exhibit. If you choose to have the Extension Office transport the exhibit please have it to the office by August 4. Good luck to all State Fair Exhibitors!

AKSARBEN The AKSARBEN Stock Show will be held September 28 through October 1. Reminder that the new location for the show

is Fonner Park in Grand Island, Nebraska.

All entries must be submitted on aksarbenstockshow.com by August 31.

Post Fair Appreciation Meeting The Annual Post Fair Supper will be held at a later date. This dinner acts as our post

-fair evaluation meeting. All 2017 superintendents, youth committee members, coun-

ty council and club leaders are encourage to attend.

This is one way we would like to thank you for all your work during the 2016-2017

fair year. We hope to see you all there!

County Council With the conclusion of the 2016-2017 4-H year we are looking for members to join our 2017-2018 County Council. The

County Council consists of representatives from all 4-H clubs. As a member you would serve as a leader in the

Montgomery County 4-H program by being involved in several county wide activities such as Awards Night, tournaments,

Family Fun Night, fundraisers and many other events. County Council members are also asked to help with summer day

camps and events during the week of county fair. County Council meets the first Sunday of each month at 5 pm in the

Extension Office conference room.

Any member entering grades 9-12 are encouraged to apply to be a part of the 2017-2018 County Council. Please have all

applications to the Extension Office by Monday, September 11.

4-H & Youth Committee A new 4-H year is just around the corner which means we need each club to nominate 1 adult and 1 youth member to

represent your club on the 2017-2018 4-H and Youth Committee. The Committee is made up of adults and youth from

each club as well as members at large from the community. The Youth Committee’s main role is to make decisions related

to policies of the Montgomery County 4-H Program. They also act as a liaison between the Montgomery County Extension

Office and 4-H clubs.

Vial.

Hannah will be representing Montgomery County at the Iowa State Fair. You

can go show your support for Hannah at the 2017 State Fair Queen Introduc-

tions August 11 at 4:00 pm on the Anne & Bill Riley Stage.

Good luck! We hope you have a wonderful time and represent our county well.

Record Books Record keeping is a lifelong skill that the 4-H program hopes to instill in all members. Record books help members to set

goals, take action and evaluate their progress. All members are encouraged to complete and submit a record book each

year.

All record book forms can be found online at: https://www.extension.iastate.edu/montgomery/4h. First year members will

receive a free record book cover from the Montgomery County Extension Office. All record books are due to your club

leaders September 15.

Best of the Southwest Shootout On August 29, exhibitors from Adair, Adams, East Pottawattamie, Fremont, Mills, Montgomery, Page Taylor, Union and

West Pottawattamie participated in the invitation-only Best of the Southwest Shootout.

Beef Carcass Show The results and awards of the 2017 Montgomery County Carcass Show will be announced August 10 at 6:30 at the Gold fair building.

The Mills-Montgomery Cattlemen will be grilling burgers for dinner.
