Consider these factors…

Where life thrives.

Organic Food/Nutrition

The Growing Dome provides an environment for year-round gardening and the growing of fresh organic produce, which scientific studies have proven to be superior in nutritional value to conventionally grown food.

Safety

The volume of produce moved through the global food system results in recalls, contamination, and health scares. In your Growing Dome, you are in charge of how your food is handled and what it comes into contact with. The ability to pick fresh food that you eat that day ensures the safety of your fruits and vegetables. This is especially important in a time when new “super” bugs are becoming more common.

Wellbeing

The cost of healthcare always seems to be on the rise and our healthcare professionals continue to encourage us to eat better. A diet rich in fresh greens, fruits, and vegetables is good for you, and may very well result in fewer visits to the doctor. We receive reports regularly from current Growing Dome owners that they feel healthier eating food from their gardens. As a part of daily life we are exposed to the noise, interruption, and stress of modern technology. Having your own quiet, peaceful sanctuary to step into every day can contribute to a calmer, happier state of being. This reduction in stress alone can improve your mental, emotional, spiritual, and physical health.

Gardening’s Proven Health Benefits

Where wellness thrives.

Soil: A Natural Anti-Depressant

Microbes in soil have proven to have mood lifting effects according to studies conducted by University of Bristol and University College London.

“A bacteria found in soil called Mycobacterium has been found to effect the same neurons as Prozac, offering people a natural lift in mood.” Read full article on HealthFreedoms.org

“Contact with soil and a specific soil bacteria, Mycobacterium vaccae, triggers the release of serotonin in our brain according to research. Serotonin is a happy chemical, a natural anti-depressant and strengthens the immune system… Another interesting bit of research relates to the release of dopamine in the brain when we harvest products from the garden. The researchers hypothesize that this response evolved over nearly 200,000 years of hunter gathering, that when food was found … a flush of dopamine released in the reward centre of brain triggered a state of bliss or mild euphoria.. “By simply taking a walk in the woods or digging in the dirt, you can dose yourself with nature’s happy pill just by breathing in the smell of clean earth.” Read full article on http://www.gardenbetty.com

Children’s Immunity

“A researcher at Oregon State University, has discovered that women who have higher rates of allergies, and other autoimmune disorders are a result of being too clean. In other words, parents who let their children run amok in dirt or mud tend to have healthier kids.” Read full article on http://mynorthwest.com

Education

Where innovation thrives.

Garden to Classroom

We are committed to changing the way children eat. From supporting whole school system garden-to-lunchroom projects to being involved in school efforts to educate youth about where their food comes from, Growing Spaces is committed to educating kids about how to live healthier. So many children are unaware of how their food is supplied, and a school garden helps them create a valuable connection to their food that they would otherwise miss. A child that grows their own broccoli is more likely to eat it because of the sense of accomplishment involved in the process.

The Growing Dome® greenhouse is a solution for sustainable projects that are private and public, and acts as a centerpiece for many schools and institutions that model holistic health.

Sustainability in Practice

Growing Spaces models and educates about sustainability in as many ways they can. Our entire manufacturing facility is powered by a solar system and we reduce, reuse and recycle at our facility everywhere we can. In addition, we partner with a wide array of institutions, communities and non-profits that promote sustainable education and living.

Why Garden in a Growing Dome?

Where efficiency thrives.

Protection The Growing Dome keeps your plants safe from frost, hail and wind damage as well as from destruction from grazing animals.

Wind The Growing Dome is also incredibly wind friendly as the wind simply flows around it and specially crafted vent openers protect the vents from wind damage. A rectangular greenhouse has a much larger surface area for the wind to push against and the window openers are not made to withstand high winds.

Shape The first feature is of course the geodesic shape of the Growing Dome®, while it is a beautifully shaped building, its real beauty lies in its strength. The triangle shapes forming the Growing Dome create a geometric pattern of strength not replicated in a simple rectangular shape. Our hometown of Pagosa Springs is at 7000+ ft. elevation and may receive five to six feet of snowfall in any given winter storm, and while many other buildings and structures in the area suffer collapse or structural damage none of the Growing Domes have problems.

Solar Input The curved surface of the Growing Dome allows for a very even heat input by the sun throughout the day. A rectangular greenhouse has a large flat area sloping south limiting the larger amount of sunlight to come in at mid-day, whereas in the early morning and late afternoon the light input is negligible.

Heat Loss Heat loss from any structure is proportional to the surface area of the structure. A spherical shape has the minimum surface area for the amount of floor space enclosed. The Growing Dome is much more effective at keeping the heat in on a cold winter night simply by having a lot less surface area through which the heat can escape.
