2015-2016 REPORT TO OUR COMMUNITY

2016 has certainly been a year of building and growth at Stoughton Hospital. The new registration area opened, with both staff and patients commenting favorably on the private space, décor and soothing colors. The Lab entered its new home behind the ER and is up and running at full capacity. Second-fl oor Day Surgery now has a total of 13 private rooms with a bathroom between each room, a technologically wired family waiting area and an Ambulatory Infusion Center with four private rooms. A portion of the newly designed Emergency/Urgent Care Department opened with much anticipation from local EMS personnel; the space includes two fully enclosed ambulance bays.

The last phase of this project will continue on the fi rst fl oor with the completion of additional rooms in ER/Urgent Care, clinic space for our general surgeon and other specialists and modifi cations to our entryway. The above progress is a result of diligent planning, teamwork and collaborative support from all of our community – thank you.

In addition to our physical space improvements, our health services have grown. Dr. Aaron Schwaab, General Surgeon, joined Stoughton Hospital

with full support from Dean Health, Physicians Plus, Unity Health and more. Dr. John Rogerson, Orthopedic Surgeon, and staff from OrthoTeam Clinic joined the hospital, allowing additional orthopedic choice and services. And to keep abreast of technology, we launched telemedicine, expanding our services and enhancing patient care.

The Care YOU NEEDIndustry trends continue to show a decrease in inpatient admissions as a result of national health policies, health insurance guidelines, growth of observation status for patients and advancements in technology – making it safer for patients to receive much of their care on an outpatient basis. Additionally, the transition to population health management, developing initiatives and programs to keep the community healthy, is also playing a role in the shift from inpatient to outpatient. Stoughton Hospital remains committed to providing care at the right place, at the right time.

Caring for the COMMUNITYStoughton Hospital takes pride in being at the center of our community. We work hard to be good partners and collaborate with our local clinics, civic organizations, chambers, schools, businesses, wellness coalitions and more.

Care doesn’t just happen within the four walls of the hospital. We are dedicated to helping our community become healthier, stronger and happier through community health events, fundraising and donating to important causes.

Some of the community health initiatives over the past year included collecting 424 donations at blood drives to support the American Red Cross, compression-only CPR lessons to teach community members how to save a life in an emergency and free mindfulness and wellness classes featuring topics such as essential oils, kundalini yoga, aromatherapy and more.

In addition, the Heart Walk Team of Stoughton Hospital staff and cardiac rehabilitation patients raised over $6,200 to fund prevention and treatment research for heart disease. The hospital also partnered with the Stoughton Wellness Coalition to collect over 1,200 pounds of unused medications and medical sharps to help keep our community safe.

Stoughton Hospital supports important community initiatives and events, as well. Employees from Stoughton Hospital and the Stoughton Area School District volunteered to unload and stock nearly 5,300 pounds of food for the Stoughton Holiday Fund. We were also proud to support the Syttende Mai Parade and Run/Walk this year.

Thank you to everyone who participated, donated or volunteered to help us improve our community. We are grateful for the opportunity to give back and serve others.

Dear Friends,

What an exciting year it has been for the Foundation and the Hospital! As many of you know, the Stoughton Hospital Foundation embarked on a $2 million Capital Campaign: Life.Giving.Care. – Building on a Tradition of Compassion & Trust for Generations to Come. It has been an amazing transformation thus far, and we are all anxious to see the fi nal space, slated to be completed in spring of 2017.

This past year, I have again been inspired by the generosity and support of the Foundation’s ever-growing Circle of Friends. I am happy to share that through the efforts of many, we were able to raise $2.3 million! Please take a look at our Honor Roll of Donors who have contributed during the last fi scal year on pages 9-10.

While we’ve been busy with the campaign, the Foundation, along with the Hospital, has supported over 30 different causes throughout Stoughton, Evansville, Oregon, McFarland, Cottage Grove and Janesville by donating raffl e baskets. We are also volunteering at events, serving on boards and participating as members of local service clubs and chambers. We’re “pitching in” wherever we can to enhance the lives of those living in the communities we serve. When we’re not “out and about” in the community, we can be found in the Foundation Offi ce, located within the Hospital, on the fi rst fl oor, next to HR.
