Parish Mission Statement

At Saint James Catholic Church, we exist to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ. As we strive to proclaim the gospel, we remain aware and committed to evangelization: living, manifesting and embodying the message of Jesus Christ and of His Church on a diocesan, parish, and personal level. Evangelization relates to everything we do as we respond to a growing and diverse Catholic community. We must reach out to the many alienated and un-churched among us, as well as work for Christian unity through ecumenical/interfaith partnerships. We must work to develop appropriate means to pass on the gift of faith to succeeding generations. Evangelization permeates all of our goals.

SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT

Altar Flowers We appreciate all the interest that we have had in parishioners contributing flowers in honor or memory of their loved ones. Your contributions have mostly paid for all the flowers that we have en-joyed in our Church. Now that we are in the Advent Season, we have minimal flowers in Church until Christmas. If you will please use the flower contribution envelopes that are included with the ones that are mailed each month to cover the Christmas Celebration Flowers (which usually last until the Lenten Season- during which we have no flowers in Church). These envelopes also cover the Easter Lilies. After Easter, we will be accepting your flower contributions again for your loved ones. Thank you so much for all your interest. God Bless all of You !! St. James Altar Society Social Concerns Ministry Men’s Homeless Shelter is now open providing a safe, warm place to sleep, shower, have a hot meal and break-fast. Hours of operation are 5:30 pm to 6:30 am seven nights a week through March 31st. If you would like to help these men by providing a hot meal please call Jane King at 252-432-9494 to schedule your night for a dinner. The shelter is located at Frist Presbyterian Church on Church St. off Chestnut St. in Henderson. It’s advisable to call Jane one to two days ahead to obtain a more accurate count of men needing a meal. Other needs are thermal underwear size med. through 2X, white tube socks or heavy socks,; sugar and pine sol cleaner. Donated items may be left next to the food basket in the Narthex. St. James Parishioners There a number of parishioners who have been providing help to fellow parishioners with transport and other needs. If you are in need of help to get to Mass, doctor appointments, food shopping, etc. please call the office to see if we might be able to help you.
