Growing Guide Amaryllis Planting Instructions 1. Place soil disc in a bowl and add warm water (see instructions on disc for required measurement). Set aside until water is completely absorbed by the compressed disc. Loosen soil. 2. Pot the Amaryllis bulb leaving the top third of the bulb exposed. 3. Place in or near a bright window with indirect sunlight. 4. Water once with luke warm water when you first pot up your Amaryllis bulb, then sparingly until you see the tip of the bud appear. Planting Tips If the bulb has already started growing, plant as soon as possible and the bulb will straighten itself out. Keep from drafty doors and windows. Spread decorative stone or marbles over the soil for a finished look and to prevent tipping when in full bloom. Cut off spent stalks. Additional stalks may appear as others fade. Amaryllis are tropical bulbs and prefer temperatures around 70° F (20°c). All plants grow towards light. Turning the pot or planter regularly will ensure straight stems. Plant multiple kits in two week intervals for a constant parade of color during the winter months. Aftercare When blooms fade, cut off the tubular flower stems near the top of the bulb, leaving the foliage to continue growing. Water as usual and apply a water-soluble fertilizer every four weeks. Once the danger of frost has passed place your Amaryllis outdoors in your garden where it can enjoy the summer sun. Be sure to continue your fertilizer program every four weeks as this is necessary for the next round of indoor forcing. Bring your Amaryllis inside at the end of summer and allow the bulb to completely dry out by storing it in a cool dry place. About 5-8 weeks before you want the amaryllis to flower again, repot the bulb in fresh pottings soil and resume watering as instructed above.
