Around The SchoolRepeating The Call !

Around KIPP AES weve been Being Nice and Working Hard,as well as growing and showing what we know! Now its yourturn! Each of our growing classrooms is looking for parentvolunteers to come in weekly and help out with classroomadministrative duties. Its a great way to get to see what yourchild is experiencing during the day and a major way to helpout your child's teachers and become more closely integratedinto our classrooms. Please, if your interested, or able to lend alittle time, speak with your child's teacher and set times anddays for service. It would be great if each class had Parenthelpers! You could help as little as one hour a week!

Dear Families,This fall has brought us many wonderful mo-

ments. The Class of 2026 is implementing their school rules ofBe Nice and Work Hard with less and less reminders. Theyare sprouting each other out for being good teammates. Thechildren are also starting to internalize our chant that this isOUR school and OUR place. It is a wonderful thing to watch

children see a child by themselves during recess and offer toplay with them, or to watch another child take a risk by writingthe morning message for the class. The class of 2026 is trulybeginning to grow their dreams. Throughout the day studentsare learning, overcoming challenges, smiling and laughing. Itsa beautiful thing.

Our school community, however, isnt just ourstudents; it is our families too. We are looking forward to ourschool community getting together again on November 14 th for

some more community bondingand fun. We look forward toshooting baskets, practicingour yoga breathing, designingnew foods in cooking, and discovering new pieces of nature tomake art projects. We look forward to seeing every one of ourfamilies at our next Saturday School. We also want to thank

the parents that came out to our first coffee and conversa-tions. We truly grow as a community when we get together toshare great ideas. So many wonderful things came out of thatchat: the connections between families, applications for librarycards to the public library and a search for good afterschoolprograms for next year. We hope to see many more parents atcoffee and conversation on December 4 th. Have a wonderfulmonth and as always keep reading with your child every night.

    Love, Carolyn and Steve

    California Golden Bears

By the end of October, the UC Berkeley

Golden Bears will be completing their44th day of Kindergarten! Our wordbank has grown from 20 words to 36words, and our love of reading in-creases by the minute. We haveopened up our creative spirits in mathby forming geometric shapes withmacaroni noodles, pretzel sticks, andcotton balls. As authors and illustra-tors, we have explored and writtenabout our school and community andrealize as KIPPsters we are leaders oftomorrow! As an extension of ourcommunity, we celebrated Latino Heri-tage Month in our classroom by singingsongs in Spanish, having bi-lingual readalouds, making Guacamole together,

and learning the history of the Tortillaand enjoying it toasted with but-ter! Together, the Golden Bears areworking on having one more addition tothe Berkeley classroom: A Beta Fish asour Class Pet.! Each day, the GoldenBears have an opportunity to SPROUTout a classmate on the ways they areBeing Nice and Working Hard. Bydoing so, they get to place a Goldfishcracker in the fishbowl! Once thefishbowl is FULL, we will welcome ourclass pet with open arms!

Do theyadapt? Do they hibernate? Do theychange colors? In math, we justlearned about symmetry, continue toexplore the calendar, and count higherand higher every day. Would you

    Gym

Rolls and throws and catches, oh my!In gym, weve been using our arms tocatch, throw, aim and roll our way tophysical education greatness. In thefollowing unit we will be working on

striking objects with both short and longhandled instruments. This is a great accomplishment, and wethank youour familieswho workhard to get our kids here on time andevery day. We appreciate your e ffort!!

to play listening games. For example, you can say, Im going to give you amission. I want you to bring me thefollowing items: a hairbrush from yourbedroom, slippers from my room,

etc. You can also do this in the super-market or any other store.

Teacher Tip of the Month:Being strong listeners is a hugeskill! One way to have our childrenbecome better listeners is to talk to ourchildren ALL the time. Tell him/her

about an interesting story you read inthe newspaper. Describe a conversa-t ion you had at work with afriend. When you go shopping tell him/her all about the shopping trips youused to take with your parents. Get intothe habit of narrating everydaychores. If you are in the kitchen to-gether while you are making dinner, forexample, you can say, I need to meas-ure your two cups of water and thenadd one cup of rice Another way is
