Join Megan Bruch Leffew and Hal Pepper of the Center for Profitable Agriculture for an intensive training for farmers interested in making direct sales to restaurants. Sessions will include: Planning for Enterprise Success & Liability Insurance 101 Keys to Successful Marketing with Tips on Marketing to Restaurants Counting Your Costs Pricing for Profit In addition, a panel discussion on the benefits and challenges of direct marketing to restaurants and the Harvested Here Food Hub will offer a short presentation on their operation, as well as help farmers interested in selling to the hub to sign up as vendors. The training is free, and lunch is provided. Please pre-register by December 5 by calling 423-493-9155, x13 or emailing [email protected]. This workshop fulfills a TAEP requirement in ONLY the following sectors: Fruits and Vegetable and Value-Added. About the Workshop Leaders: The Center for Profitable Agriculture’s mission is to help Tennessee farm families improve income by identifying new ways to add value to food and fiber products and other natural resources through processing, packaging, direct marketing and agritourism. Hal Pepper: Hal has worked nearly 30 years with Extension in Tennessee and Alabama. The past four years he has worked as the Financial Analysis Specialist with UT’s Center for Profitable Agriculture. Hal’s work at the Center has focused on business planning, product liability risk, sales tax and business tax for direct marketers of specialty crops and value-added dairy, poultry and beef products. Megan Bruch Leffew: Megan Bruch (pronounced "Brew") Leffew joined the Center in June 2003 as a Marketing Specialist. She provides leadership to the Center's programs in agritourism, direct marketing, value-added beef marketing and value-added fruit and vegetable products. This course is offered in partnership with The University of Tennessee’s Center for Profitable Agriculture, Crabtree Farms, and the Local Food Program: Funding for this workshop has been provided, in part, by the United States Department of Agriculture’s Specialty Crop Block Grant, administered by the Tennessee Department of Agriculture.
