Introduction“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord,

continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught,

abounding in thanksgiving.” Colossians 2:6-7

TĒNĀ KOUTOU KATOA - Warmest greetings to you. I am delighted that you have come by this booklet or webpage. Welcome! Read on.... It tells the story of part of the life of our church, to the Glory of God. We give thanks for the many many groups and ministries which comprise our Cathedral community.

We have invited those groups to be represented in this book with a few words. It has become a beautiful snapshot of our community's generosity of time and talents. We are such a diverse and unique fellowship! The diversity is a delight to view (ministries such as those who pray, volunteers at our Welcome Desk; Sidespeople; Afterschool Programme Team; Flower Guild; those who cook and clean...).

For all those quiet and gentle ministries which pass under the radar - the tucked-away behind-the-scenes parts of our church life - thanks most of all. Your presence and your ministry is more valued than I can say. Things always continue to grow and to change as our Lord leads us - we are not standing still; so please do forgive us where information is found to be out of date - and kindly let us know where there are omissions or inaccuracies.

Maybe you are flicking through this booklet wondering where you might best offer your gifts, or where there might be activities or groups happening which would suit you or your family. Excellent ! I pray that this exploration will be the beginning of a new and life-giving journey. There's no substitution for a conversation as part of this - please consider having a chat to one of our ministry team - you can find their photos and contact details on the Team page of our website - or, of course, contact the relevant 'group contact' as identified in this booklet. With every blessing to you,

Dean Jamie...On behalf of the Communications Teamwww.taranakicathedral.org.nz

We love to welcome new members. We are on a journey together with God - and there is always the opportunity to ask questions of faith in our group; we even have an anonymous question box for this! This group is basically about having some fun together, in the Lord's House. Bring it on!

Bed pushing(At Taranaki Base Hospital)

“So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.”

~Matthew 7:12 (NIV)

Main Contact Details :Peoples Warden, Lesley Lowe : (06) 759-4104

Eirene Voon : (06) 753-7208

Description :Bed pushing is a worthwhile ministry which requires no more than a desire to assist and enable patients to participate in the pleasure of a church service while in the hospital.

We meet at the Chapel at 10.30am. where the Chaplain provides us with a list of people wanting to attend the service. The patients are collected from the wards and wheeled to the Chapel where they join with others to enjoy the music, fellowship and take communion. Primarily the patients will be in wheelchairs but it is sometimes necessary to wheel beds, this does not require a great amount of energy.

This brief, casual, ministry is very rewarding for such little effort and can fulfill a great need for the patient .

Time and Place of Meetings :We meet Quarterly on a Sunday at the Base Hospital Chapel at 10.30am (Rostered approximately 4 times yearly).

Giving Recording“Commit to the Lord whatever you do,

and he will establish your plans.” ~Proverbs 16:3 (NIV)

Main Contact Details :Dean Jamie : [email protected]

Description :The work of this cathedral church is supported by much generous giving. As the cathedral has charitable status, any giving is eligible for tax relief. At the end of the year, receipts are issued for every donor who has used our Envelope or Automatic Payment scheme to support the church financially (in other words - anyone whose giving we can track). We treat this information highly confidentially, and only one person is privy to it, not the dean, or the ministry team, or the stewardship group, or the finance committee. That person is approved by Chapter/Vestry as trustworthy and as a person of discretion and good standing in the church. Their role is as a volunteer, to spend a couple of hours a week :-

1. Entering the giving that has been received by envelope - referenced by donor number or other details

2. Working through the receipt books and ensuring any named donations for general or special purposes have been recorded

3. Entering donations through automatic payment

A secure, password-protected database is used to record this information. At the end of the year, the database is used to generate and to double check the giving information, and receipts are printed and distributed. This is a more-or-less thankless, yet vital, role in our church community. I pay tribute to our Giving Recorder - for patience and attention to detail.

Time & Place of meetings:If you would like to know more - contact Dean Jamie.
