SUBJECT: Recommended Typing Tutorial Software that improves Typing Skills

As you requested, by the personnel department of SunBright, here are our findings of our investigationinto the importance of touch keyboarding software in the workplace. Please approve the options for thetouch the touch keyboard software. The purpose of our report would be to research typing tutorial

software to help the firms employees how to type. Tanya Regal, the personnel manager believes that thetyping method used by employees now is inefficient and has the possibility of creating errors wheninputting data into the system. This in turn `lowers the datas reliability when it is used for research intrials of new technology. We are confident as co-directors of training that you will find our report helpfulin the decision making progress to improve the skills of SunBrights workforce. At this time, we wouldlike to write deliver the report for the SunBright Technology firm in Rockville, Maryland. Kindly reviewthe report and be sure to look at the various ways to make the mastering of the keyboard more accurate. Please note that the report encompasses several recommended elements:

    Proposed Project

We have agreed to help Ms. Regal, and we would like to use our report to her as our final project in yourcourse. The overall result of our report will be to help Ms. Regal select one of three recommendedsoftware programs that will be implemented in the Personnel and Training Programs, and is a standardpart of the recruitment and retention that will be implemented as a new system.

While researching Ms. Regals notes we had reviewed their network system; which will lead to animpartial investigation of the best vendor for the firm, to develop a procurement relationship, and if

possible to procure in terms of such criteria as cost, ease of use, and quickness of implementation; andease of use and the ability to learn, the educational content, as well as PC compatibility. The enablingelement of our reports purpose will be to help her to make those comparisons easily.

We have agreed to help Ms. Regal, and we would like to use this report to her as our final project in yourcourse. The end result of our report would help Ms. Regal to select and begin training the employeesimmediately that enroll in an initial 18 month subscription plan and use their user identification and createa new password, may work at their own self-pace.

The persuasive element of our reports purpose will be to make Ms. Regal feel confident that she hasdiscovered the best way to address the accuracy problem with typographical errors. Right now, she isuncertain about what to do. In addition, we want our report to make her trust our ability to work withcomputer information systems. While she wants our help and advice, she is currently a little skeptical thatany college students having no on-the-job experience can really help solve her department's problem. Please be mindful that we also want our report to help her to trust our ability to effectively train her

employees and keep them up to par. While we are the co- directors of training within SunBright we arealso newly hired and are still in college. We would really like to show her that we are capable of handlingany training issues that she may have now or in the future.

Moreover, Ms. Kirby has worked with her personnel departments training program since 1983; we willbe able to use some computer terms and concepts without extensive definitions and explanations. She isalso quite familiar with the procedures, personnel, and resources in her department, so we can refer tothese without elaborate explanations. Her advisers will be the four people who work with her; though theywill be affected by the decision she makes, they know less than she does about the department andcomputers. Nevertheless, it is not going to be an easy task of persuading white collar corporate executivesa business firm that there is a way to type and to do proficiently and expediently, every time.

Plan of ActionDuring the several weeks this team investigated several software applications and performed scholarlyresearch and narrowed the results down to Microsofts customized E-learning. However, other softwareand the cost are available for your examination. This investigative report has been drafted as a deliverableand is available for Ms. Regals review, if needed she may receive additional information to support thefinal report to her department.

ScheduleFigure 1, is a demonstration the estimated schedule used for the completion on this proposed project.

QualificationsFor the past seventeen years, Ms. Regal has been working from the ground up and running in the Firms

Personnel Department, she is very knowledgeable about the different training programs that will or willnot work for her firm. Consequently, she is very familiar with the needs of all staff from blue collar towhite collar, as well as workers and executives; she is the person who will know there skills that can bestrengthened and can enhance the productivity of the firm; which will be addressed in the Staff andSubcontractor Information. The software program is just what they could be using to enhance a state ofthe art experience as it pertains to keyboarding with accuracy. We will stress that speed comes afteraccuracy and with accuracy there is productivity. The combined experience of the team will be veryhelpful in researching areas that a Project Manager, in helping to identify the areas that are needed foraccurate typing with a Window PC enabled keyboard.

    Resources

Our major resource is the recommendations that have been forth for you to choose a software program.

Upon reading the final report the anticipated outcome is that Ms. Regal would with her staff, in support ofthe recommendations of implementing a training program upon examination of the teams findings. In theinvestigation we have included the cost of the investigational software, as well as the medium price forthe software, in which we have relied on current or past vendors for SunBright, pertaining to theinformation supplied to the team on costs of the software training. SunBright Technology has a fewelectronic databases that we will be utilized to base the decision on the final recommendation for thetraining with the keyboarding software program. Furthermore, the purpose of the report is to facilitatetraining that can be done on any computer through the website, as well as downloadable software. Lastly, the investigation included but was not limited to the Prince George's Community College librarys

electronic journals; that included training by the librarian and staffand freely consulted the staff. Moreover, access to the countys portal to the Memorial Library system was also utilized.

ConclusionWe are very confident that SunBright Technology will adopt and implement the recommendations set

forth in this final report; which is an excellent training program that is already in tact in some areas of thefirms computer network environment.

In addition, we are also very excited about this final report and anticipate that the recommendations willbe accepted. The team enjoys giving back to the community and we welcome the chance to help ourhometown Technology firm by using skills and knowledge that we believe would enhance the accuracyand training with the software for keyboards, which are in conjunction with the teams academicexperience and professional experience. At this time, we request a comprehensive interview to discuss thepreliminary reports and the recommended findings, after careful review of the presentation.

I thank you in advance for the opportunity to serve your needs, and we look forward to assisting you inthe future.

    EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

By implementing a keyboard training program for SunBright Technology Firm, the fundamentals ofkeyboarding will enhance the productivity of proposal written with all the employees at SunBright, fromthe staff employees, and also the white collar executives. The accuracy of reports, and budgets would bein the best interest of the company. The white collar executives that do not pass their handwriting to the

support staff would benefit in saving time and money, as it relates to billable time when data is entered inonly once. The electronic training will be available on the software through the LAN at the corporateoffice in which you enrolled. The new corporate training software will also be uploaded onto laptops thatare registered from the company. A white collar executive has the convenience of utilizing a companylaptop to facilitate training, tutorial templates and wireless networking environment; to assist withmastering the electronic components of the keyboard training. It is with sincere hope that each employeewill build strong keyboarding skills.

A conclusion has been reached that the company will benefit from flexible and state of the art training toincrease accuracy and possibly speed for the Executives that peck on the keyboard. In additional, acontusion has been reached that the Executives that do not deliver a transcription may save time byaccurately inputting sensitive data that will go through a series of reviews from support staff, technical

editors through the chain of command and ultimately to the Division Director, of the Business Unit. Thebenefits of choosing the software training are as followed:

User-friendly software and twenty-four hour support staff, just a click-a-way. The user has multiple accesses to the user-friendly software. Instant feedback of training units and customized learning sessions. Development of strong keyboarding skills for all skill sets. User identification can be automatically extended beyond one year. Hands-on and self-guided tutorial for all skill sets. Proven results for individuals with verbal disabilities, and more. Higher percentage of improved posture, accurate reporting and technical editing and more.

Therefore, the findings support the evidence for overwhelming support for the implementation of newsoftware training through the companys network, which can be accessed from Cloud, but not limited toan application of the e-reader on the I-pad, your laptop with wireless internet; your companys standalonecomputer, and support for Gateway computers. The keyboard training would be used for all employees ofthe company, but would provide intensive support to the Executive White Collar, the Professional Staffand others, not limited to individuals with disabilities that desire to improve their typing skills on akeyboard.

    BACKGROUND

The SunBright technology is a firm with many locations throughout the continental U.S., and abroad. TheRockville office is currently reviewing a training program for about two thousand of the firms whitecollar employee who draft their material on a take home lap top computer. Ms. Regal believes many ofthe employees will improve their keyboarding skills after they take a keyboarding class, because they are

probably using the hunt-and-peck methods which can be tedious and inefficient. However, to decrease theinaccuracy from typographical errors that lower the reliability of data, we are reviewing at least threesoftware programs that will include but are not limited to teaching the user how to type.

This proposal is being written for the approval of our topic. We would like to write a report for SunBrightTechnology, a technology firm based in Rockville, Maryland. The purpose of our report would be toresearch typing tutorial software to help the firms employees how to type. Tanya Regal, the personnelmanager believes that the typing method used by employees now is inefficient and has the possibility ofcreating errors when inputting data into the system. This in turn lowers the datas reliability when it isused for research in trials of new technology.

This software will be very valuable in training the firms employees because a mistake made in inputting

data can be very costly for the company. One mistake can mean the difference in a product being madethat can safely be marketed or result in the deaths of many people.

The firm has just reached over 2000 employees so the need for precision in data reporting is crucial. Thesoftware would have to be cost effective because hiring instructors to train every employee would not becost effective. The software would need to be something that can be used independently and allow theemployee to learn on their own time. It would also need to be windows based, as well as educationallysound and geared towards adults. This would allow the users to learn at their own pace and on their owntime.

SunBright Technology is a growing technology firm that serves clients worldwide. SunBright Technologyprovides technology training and products to clients. It takes numerous people to process these orders.

Each time a product or service is ordered, a customer sales representative must enter the data into theircomputer. Another employee must enter the data into the supply computer. The purpose of our reportwould be to research typing tutorial software to help the firms employees how to type. Tanya Regal, thepersonnel manager believes that the typing method used by many of the employees now is inefficient andhas the possibility of creating errors when inputting data into the system. Subsequently, this lowersproductivity in the datas reliability when it is used for research in trials of new technology.

Many of the employees use their computer for hours each day, but they do not know how to touch-keyboard. Ms. Regal believes that the hunt-and-peck method is inefficient. One mistake can mean thedifference in a product being made that can safely be marketed or result in the deaths of many people.

The firm has 2,000 employees so the need for precision in data reporting is crucial. The software wouldhave to be Windows (PC) - compatible, geared to adults, educationally sound, and can be learned on anindividual basis without the presence of instructors, the software would also need to be cost effective, with this being a small company there is not a large budget to work with.

    PROBLEM

    Addressing-Accuracy: Truth in reporting

In a survey taken by the company, we determined that there were many people, not just executives whowere not able to type very well. As a matter of fact they not only were the Executives pecking at the

keyboard, but the more seasoned typist that was staff was struggling with accuracy as well. Many of thestaff said that they were able to work an Atari, Wii and PS3 station much easier and fluidly than theycould work a keyboard during crunch time for reports like Performas and other sensitive securitydocuments. We want you to enhance the savvy knowledge that you have already have computer courses, but you have never elected to finish any course that you started. Nevertheless you can be enthusiasticabout this software training program in the richest country in the world. Nevertheless, the internet is aglobal society where you will have the luxury of picking up your software training at your own pace, never taking on more than you choose to do (Anthony, 2006). You can do the software training as manytimes as you like with a username, and you can advance through the training to enhance the desiredkeyboarding skills that you already have achieved with accuracy and hopefully a little speed. The purposeof this training program that will be implemented into the Human Resources Departments TrainingPrograms is not just all about speed but accuracy.

Many of the documents produced by this organization are sensitive enough that if information ispublished incorrectly it would warrant legal-bureaucratic sentencing for any case that might look likewhite-collar crime. Not to say that we have ever had a problem like this but most importantly is that whenwe put a document out there it needs to be accurate and truthful, without complexity because everyonecan never use the keyboard purposefully and efficiently. Most importantly is that the likelihood of thisorganization to put out relevant and accurate information time and time again is of the most criticalessence.

This study was created because of a concern that the current hunt and peck method was insufficient andcreated costly error that was impacting the profitability of SunBright Technology. Tanya Regal, thepersonnel manager of the company wants employees to be able to touch keyboard effectively and without

error. She wants to implement a training program that will teach her employees to type and has veryspecific criteria that she is looking for in a training program. In this report, we will demonstrate that thetouch typing software for keyboarding will possess the following features:

User friendly Cost effective Windows compatible Easy to implement Educational and value-added touch typing software Enhance learning and provide training enrichment.

    Advantage of having Keyboarding Skills

The advantage to having keyboarding skills is that the company will produce accurate reporting on thefirst time. Now that the company is changing computers and providing take home lap tops, keyboardtraining has never been so close to accessible and convenient training.

The importance of touch typing is crucial in the aspect of accurate typing. Many people can simply typeto say that they created, and drafted their own input. Then the work is passed onto the clerical staff thatdoesnt know if you meant silver or sliver, and there is a poor chance that numbers will be correctedbecause he or she is unable to read your writing. There is a very important advantage to typing correctly, and efficiently that is bigger than productivity, it is also accountability. Your customers will know that

your quality standards are very important, and when they go behind the scenes to see how quick andefficiently you produce and turn out projects, forms, and reports this could increase business by tenfold, and most of all retain all of your customer base which would be equivalent to three referrals per customerthat has been retained.

    Typing Instructor Platinum

By implementing touch keyboarding tutorial software into SunBright Technologys training program, weare going to improve on the efficiency of our employees time management. Using touch keyboardingsoftware will help improve the employees skills regarding typing. This will over time cut down on theamount of mistakes made when inputting data into our systems which will help to improve our productiontime. By minimizing the time spent on inputting data we will see an increase in productivity, as well asless mistakes in data submitted from the employees. This report will proves the findings in the report asauthorized by Ms. Tanya Regal, personnel manager that by using touch keyboarding software, SunBrightTechnology will see marked improvements in both accuracy and proficiency.

Through our research on touch keyboarding software we have reached the conclusion that SunBrightTechnology will benefit from implementing training software that is to be used by all existing employeesand new employees upon hiring. This requirement is based upon the fact that there is no general standardin keyboarding skills in the workplace. These findings are based on research data collected throughsurveys and questionnaires, as well as research conducted through scholarly articles, internet websites, and academic databases.

Using the above mentioned facts we found that:

Using a touch type tutorial is more cost effective over the long run than hiring a trainer The software can be customized to fit the person so it is user friendly The software can be used on all operating systems so there is no increased cost to update our

    existing computer systems

Is available on any computer that our employees have access toBased on these criteria we would like to recommend Typing Instructor Platinum. This software meets allof the above criteria and will also help us to raise the bar in the level of service that is recommended indeveloping a training program for typing, this software would surely improve accuracy, efficiency and

    DISCUSSION AND FINDINGS

The results of the research performed to find the right software to use at home, at the SunBright campus, and your wireless laptop indicate that indicate that the user will be able to use the customized GDPsoftware to seamlessly send completed work to the e-learning platform where the assignments are issued. As a result productivity should increase with keyboard training while typing is performed in the MicrosoftOffice platform provided through SunBright licensed software with Microsoft. The findings indicate that(a) the delivery of the e-training can be feasible through the Microsoft Platform.; (b) the e-training ismulti-media and accessible through the internet, as well as offline; (c) is reasonably priced to offerflexibility to customize the website as needed.

    Human Sequence Learning

In research performed by Cohen, Ivry, and Keele, the study investigated the role of attention, sequencestructure, and effectors specificity n learning a structured sequence of actions. In Experiment, simplestructure was sequence was learned in the presence of attentional distraction. In Experiment 2, thesequence specification is found to be in the effector-independent system. Experiments 3 and 4demonstrated that structures with unique association can be learned under attentional distraction.Likewise, structures with all items repeated in different orders in different parts of the structure requireattention for learning; such as but not limited to hierarchical representation. Human are capable oflearning novel tasks such as the violin, knit, serve tennis balls, language or linguistics in the manner ofspeaking, typing, writing, or producing sign language.

There are three features that are usually involved in learning are: attention, structure of the sequence, andeffectors specificity. Nevertheless, a variety of evidence has shown that attention is important in verballearning. Moreover reaction times to the structured sequence stimuli were no faster than the randomsequence stimuli. Lastly, Nissen and Bullemer (198) had concluded that attention, when free fromdistraction, is necessary for the structured sequence to be learned. The performance can remainsubstantive with the sequence learning task.

In addition, other independent investigation were directed toward Knowledge Direct, this source is a

reputable source because it is a website written to show the benefits of e- learning, the cost effectivenessand also it sells its software to a variety of well-known organizations. According to the investigation withwww.knowledgedirectweb.com, the first year training costs for its software is $29,600 compared to$152,000 per year for traditional training. This will help my group to substantiate our claims thatkeyboarding software is the least costly of the training types available.

The second independent investigation was directed toward Education and Information Technologies, this

source was also found to be a credible source because it was written for a scholarly journal to address thefact that online or e- learning software does not guarantee improved learning. Even though this article waswritten to show the effectiveness of blended courses it is still relevant to my groups topic because it willgive us a way to refute the fact that e-learning is an effective tool on some circumstances.

The third independent investigation was directed toward The International Review of Research in Open

and Distance Learning;scholarly articles were reviewed from a reputable source and were used in this

final report. Please remember that the scholarly articles were written for the International Review ofResearch in the department for Open and Distance Learning. The article was written to show the needs of

online training as well as the challenges that online training faces. According to Insung Jung, onlinelearning removes barriers of time and space, with the need to develop cost effective approaches toproviding interactive learning opportunities for adults and to increase access to education for individualslocated throughout the world. Thus this scholarly review is further analysis that the recommendations setforth should be adopted by SunBright Technology, for the implementation of keyboarding software.

The fourth independent investigation was directed toward the Education and Information Technologies, the scholarly article is also written for a peer reviewed journal that examines the fact that some software isdesigned without any concern for the content of the courses , says J. Keengwe and D. Georgina. Thearticle examines the transition from a face to face course to online learning. The team greatly anticipatesthat this article will help to show the need for quality control and quantitative developmental programsand activities that demonstrate learning results to enhance the employees which choose to produceaccurate work products within the scope and mission of the respective company. Please be mindful thatthis article was written for the teaching faculty. Nevertheless, this scholarly article conveys the messagethat there is a need for online courses to promote growth and development.

In addition, another independent investigation was directed toward the Education and

Information Technologies, this scholarly source is written to demonstrate the different trends in which

education is learned. According to Wim Westera, most of these failed to meet high expectations. Thearticle reviews the rise and falls ofvarious learning media and analyses what went wrong. This articlewill be able to list the pros and cons of different learning styles which will help to emphasize the benefitsof online learning for a working adult.

To conclude, attention is required for sequential learning to occur. There is also dissociation betweenneural systems responsible for structured sequence learning from those responsible for declarativememory. Therefore, Experiment one was the promising because it examined whether or not a simplesequence of events can be learned while the distracter is present, and whether or not the distracter has anyinfluence on the amount of learning; the hypothesis is that the unique and hybrid structures were learnedunder distraction but the ambiguous structure were not learned but it was examined in Experiment 3.Finally, the hypothesis of the study holds that when attention is not distracted, all three structuredsequence types can be learned.

    Concerns about hunting and pecking

Effects of Hunt and Peck Method in Typing Versus Touch Typing

Using the hunt and peck method is a very time consuming task. This method usually involves the typistusing only two fingers and is a very slow process. This decreases productivity and the typist spends moretime verifying the accuracy of the typed data over the actual content. Where an average touch typist cantype 50 to 60 words per minute without typos, while the two-finger typist using the "hunt and peck"method typically achieves only 20 to 30 sayswww.pcmag.com. The reason for this is that a hunt and

peck typist has to search out the keys and a touch typists uses memorization to type. Hunt and peckmethods are a slow process because the reader has to proofread and correct any errors that may occur, where a touch typist only has to concentrate on the content of what he is typing. This fact is stated inEverything You Need to Know about Touch Typing. It states that touch-typing is a method of typing, where the typist uses the sense of touch finding the proper keys rather than the sight. This method oftyping is considered to be highly effective, as it redoubles the productivity of work and allows the typistto concentrate not on the search of proper keys while typing but on the sense of the information he types. In such a way the typist avoids the process of continuous and time consuming proof reading and makes

only some minor editing after typing. The quantity of the misprints reduces twice. These facts confirmthe fears that Tanya Regal has about the effectiveness of the typing methods used by her employees.

Besides the obvious concerns with two finger or hunt and peck typing such as inefficiency andunreliability with any data that is typed, there is also major health risks associated with it; which is aninjury known as repetitive stress injury. The injury is caused when you use only two fingers that can

cause tearing in the wrist tissue. Two-finger typing is likely to cause a shearing injury to subsynovialtissue in the wrist, suggested Kai-Nan An, Ph.D., a professor of bioengineering at the Mayo Clinic, andcolleagues in the November issue ofPlastic and Reconstructive Surgery. "The subsynovial tissue consistsof a number of layers, much like the layers in a puff pastry. These layers of fibrous bundles run parallel tothe tendons and are connected to both the flexor tendons and the synovial membrane. When fingers aremoved, both the tendons and this subsynovial tissue are stretched, but some movements cause maximumstress," he also stated. The Professor believes this to be because of the repetitive use of the index fingerswhen typing. There is no break in the use of the index fingers that would happen naturally when a persontouch types using all of the fingers on their hand. This could lead to a numbing or tingling feeling in thefinger and wrists, which can become long term and cause the person pain for the rest of their life.

There is also the ergonomic factor that plays into use when people touch type. When people touch type

they are using correct posture which helps to relieve the stress placed on the body when two finger typing. This means using a correct typing technique by placing the wrists in a neutral position to ease the strainplaced on the wrists when typing. There is additional constant that strains the form of the upper torsowhen you try to type and then look from the keyboard to the computer screen; which study show, placesstress on the neck and eye muscles which can lead to headaches and neck pain. The posture of a twofinger typists puts their back into an unnatural position which can cause back issues if it is not corrected.

    Cost

The cost to implement touch training software is a relatively inexpensive cost compared to hiring ateacher to teach the same information. The cost for the software ranges from $20- $40 per person whichwill equal out to $40,000- $80,000 and the employees will have unlimited access to the software. Using a

teacher will cost the company over a $100,000 per year and the employees would be limited to the timeand site that the teacher chooses. Using this software will give the employees the flexibility to work ontheir own time at their own pace. This gives them the flexibility needed to learn the software withoutplacing a burden on the company to get the training complete within a certain time frame in order to tryand minimize costs.

The minimal cost of this customized course, in which the Glencoe Products are used for keyboardtraining, is a minimal price with existing computer network, at SunBright would be two hundred-fortydollars.

A good resume coupled with a persuasive cover letter will help secure an interview; a goodinterview will frequently land the job. It is normal to be nervous at an interview, but there is little excusefor not being prepared. How can you prepare?

First: Look the best that you can. Experts cite a good personal presence as the major qualitysought by firms of all types. Good grooming is a quiet statement about poise and confidence. Employersdo not require exquisite clothes, but they do expect proper dress that matches the position. Avoid trendlooks, but do not be overly formal either.

Second: Learn to express yourself clearly. A timid voice, bad diction, or poor grammar mayreflect laziness or a low self-image.

Third: Prepare a list of questions about the job, the firm, and your future with them. At the sametime, be ready for any questions that ask you to expand on statements in your resume; take a neat copy tointerviews.

    CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS

To conclude, accurate keyboarding skills are not impossible. In the best interest of the reputation ofSunBright, we believe that keyboard typing will be feasible for report writing, e-mail editing andmanuscripts for deliverables and other technical writing deemed necessary in the scope of the mission forSunBright. The e-training will be customized to include MS Office products along the GlencoeKeyboarding software; which will be accessible through the internet and offline. The Glencoe products

are highly recommended as solution to meet the critical need to improve keyboard accuracy:

To improve employee reporting data in the absence of fraud or possible criminal prosecution ofWhite Collar executives that have performed the same diagnostic e-training programs as supportstaff.

To target the hunt-and-peck employee that lacks productivity and dual errors and accuracy thatimpede productive and impact performance.

To engage all employees in attention and awareness of sequence learning with keyboard typing.
