INTRODUCTION

ME&T is conducting a test program for the cleaning effectiveness ofthe current Manufacturing aqueous cleaning solutions on currentproduction soils . These soils are the compounds used in thevarious production processes such as machining lubricants, greases, dyes, dye penetrants, waxes, maskants, adhesives, tapes, abrasivewheels, etc . The test program being conducted for cleaningeffectiveness will not be meaningful unless these soils orcompounds that are brought into Rocketdyne and used on hardwareduring production processes is strictly controlled .

There is no document that is currently being used to maintaincontrol on all the various compounds that have to be used duringthe manufacturing process . However, it has been suggested that theRocketdyne Manufacturing Procedure RM 106-05 "Cutting Fluids,Acquisition and Maintenance" could be expanded for this purpose .

Table 1 provides a list of the compounds that are currently in theRM 106-05 document, compounds that were actually found throughoutthe shop, and those compounds that were on an authorized list heldin the tool crib but are not currently being used . In addition, the compounds that have been tested by the Advanced ChemistryLaboratory are noted in this table . The results of the tests arebeing addressed in a separate report .

CONCLUSIONS & RECOMMENDATION S

It has been concluded that a committee be established to-determinewhat type of document is required to control the compounds listedin Table 1/-who should be responsible for maintaining tha tdocument, and-determine the process required to remove or addcompounds to that document . The departments that should be

represented in order to achieve the control that is necessary areQuality Assurance, ME&T, Manufacturing Technology Support, and theManufacturing Tool Crib .
