Cities generally have complex systems for sanitation, utilities, land usage, housing, and transportation. The

concentration of development greatly facilitates interaction between people and businesses, benefiting both parties in the process. A big city or metropolis usually has associated suburbs and exurbs. Such cities are usually associated with

metropolitan areas and urban areas, creating numerous business commuters traveling to urban centers of

employment. Once a city expands far enough to reach another city, this region can be deemed a conurbation or

megalopolis.

Old City: In China and the East appear urban cores with military and commercial functions. In Greek and Roman civilizations, the city became in a center of great importance.

Medieval City: At this time the city became an economic center where they conducted all kinds of commercial activities. It also serves a defensive function, since they are usually surrounded by walls.

Modern City: We performed the remodeling of existing cities with the creation of plazas, gardens, fountains and palaces.

Industrial City: The emergence of the industry causes the growth of the city and the emergence of working class neighborhoods. Also, in response to the problems presented by the city for industrial development appear urban projects. Some of the proposed projects are: garden city, the expansion of Cerdá, Haussmann project and others.

Post Industrial City: the twentieth century, there is a significant expansion of the cities through technological improvements and transportation. There is also a predominance of tertiary activities and urban areas.

• Cities are exciting, dynamic places to visit and to live. Impressive and monumental examples of human civilization on the landscape, cities also facilitate a number of problems .

• • The principal problems of Cities are its overpopulation, it’s dangerous

environment, its dwindling water , its air pollution. Poverty, Housing, Crime, Health, and Education.

• One of City problems is that it has an enormous population that continues to rapidly increase every day.

• There are many people that move to City and many people that are born there every year. These factors contribute even more to its overpopulation.

• The diminishing water supply creates another dangerous Problem. Once its water supply is gone, the only way to Receive water will be to transport it from across the mountains. Not only does the city have to pipe water in, but it also has to Pipe the sewage out of waste-filled areas.• The air in the city is so polluted that At times the air quality exceeds 100Times the acceptable level. Thousands of factories and millions Of vehicles are the main causes of the air Pollution in city.• Poverty, often stemming from issues of class, Social, and racial stratification and Socio-economic polarization, urban Poverty is an enormous problem in Many cities. Concentrated poverty in Cities also has an effect on all other city life issues.

• Housing: Housing in cities and where people choose to live can often lead to or be a product of problems inherent in the city. Gentrification of certain areas within cities can lead to the forcing out of lower income residents to makeway for more affluent city dwellers.

• Crime: Issues of concentrated poverty and segregated residential areas can contribute to pockets of high crime rate areas within cities. Areas of higher crime rates often suffer from plummeting property values.

• Health: The urban environment can lead to physical and mental health issues unique to city dwellers. Additionally, proper access to health care has long been an issue in urban environments, with affluent residents having no problems of access but lower income populations often struggling to gain adequate health care.

• Education: Urban educational facilities often face problems of overcrowding, violence and disciplinary situations, instructor compensation, higher dropout rates, funding, facilities, and quality of education provided. In many cities, private schools offer affluent parents the opportunity to pay for a premium education for their children, but this leads to further problems for those in the public schools and for

community cohesion.

Cities are systems that over time have been transformed and each of them with certain characteristics that have

been depending on its location and the need to hold their inhabitants. It is a dynamic system that is affected by many

factors and men over time has learned to live with it and become part of all the activities he performs. it is the

center of human life with its pros and cons. It is the place where human being lives and operates.
