The park will comprise 5 unique worlds – themed zones which are interconnected by woodlands – in which you will see, feel and experience nature in different ways.

The Floriade is an international spectacle which in 2012 will once again attract participants from all corners of the globe. Allow yourself to be swept up into a melting pot of cultures, and delight in exotic customs and rituals.

Especially for groups The Floriade offers a range of activities especially for groups. We can offer several food and drink packages on the park, and we can also organise group activities such as a guided walk or a ride in the cable car, gliding at 30 metres above the park. Various big-name performers will be taking to the amphitheatre’s stage in the summer. The Floriade is a unique and unforgettable day out for any group. Floriade Preview in 2011Are you curious about progress in the Floriade park and finding it hard to wait until 2012? From April to mid October 2011, you can take a cable car ride over the park and visit the Floriade Preview Centre. The cable car and the Preview Centre are both open from Thursday to Sunday, every week. Reservations are required: www.floriade.com.

Pick, taste… learn!‘Aardbeienland’ (Strawberry Land) has an amazing number of different varieties of strawberry on display – from firm and shiny to soft and sugary-sweet. At the end of your visit, you’ll know all there is to know about growing strawberries! And elsewhere, you can learn about another interesting fruit that is grown locally: the blueberry. At Blue Berrie Hill, you can pick your own and take a guided tour too.

The ‘Paddestoelerij’ (mushroom centre) in Horst offers guided tours around a mushroom farm with a surprising tasting session to round off the tour.

The popular beer brand, Hertog Jan, is brewed in Arcen. The brewery organises guided tours and tastings.

Home of ‘white gold’Limburg’s dry, sandy soil represents excellent growing conditions for ‘white gold’: the asparagus. The harvest runs from mid April until 24 June (St. John’s day), with most North-Limburg restaurants serving asparagus in that period. Various excursions to asparagus farms are available during the harvesting period, often in combination with a meal in which you can savour what you have just seen.

Close to natureOn horseback, in a covered wagon or riding on a donkey through the tranquil North-Limburg landscape, with a picturesque picnic spot half way round – you won’t get much closer to nature than this! The Manege Bergemo stables (Heijen) organises horse-riding tours for groups through the De Maasduinen national park.

North-Limburg parks and gardensThe Castle Gardens of Arcen attract visitors from around the world. What better way to spend an afternoon than wandering through these lush gardens with the historic castle as backdrop.

The ‘Rozenhof’ (rose gardens) in Lottum is not to be missed for rose-lovers. Guided tours of the gardens are available, and the Visitors’ Centre provides a wealth of information about growing and tending roses. For gardening fans, the 18th-century De Jochemhof botanical gardens in Steyl is also definitely worth a visit!

Down on the farmAt De Lindehoeve farm and stables, the farmyard is the focal point of numerous horticultural and agricultural-related pursuits, including feeding the sheep, poking around the greenhouse and group activities such as horse-riding. Similarly, the Boerderij het Platteland activity farm also welcomes hands-on visitors.

If all this horticulture has inspired you to get to work in your own garden, we know just the place for you: there are so many garden centres along the N271 that this main road between Arcen and Venlo is known locally as ‘Green Street’.

Watch the countrysidepass you by… What better way to enjoy the view of the countryside than from the water, as you sail on one of the many boats on the Meuse or the Leukermeer. The Maashopper, the Maascruiser, the Filea Mosae and Rederij de Veerman all welcome groups, whether for standard trips or tailor-made tours.

Guided coach toursIt is definitely worth exploring North-Limburg’s countryside and its villages, which are steeped in history. The De Locht museum runs guided coach tours which transport you through the unique landscape while regaling you with tales of how life was for local farmers and craftsmen in bygone times.

Meanwhile, master storyteller Gebbel climbs aboard your bus to guide you through De Peel, including the peat colony of Griendtsveen.



Historical town and city walksExperienced tour guides explain the history of the fortified town of Arcen during a stroll through its streets, and guided walks are available through Venlo and Venray too, with the walk through Venlo including a tour of the old town hall.

The Petershuis Museum, regional museum ’t Land van Peel en Maas and the Limburgs Museum all house an extensive collection of historical objects, some dating from as far back as the Stone Age and Roman times. Tip: don’t miss the Limburgs Museum’s ‘historoscoop’ – this 360-degree cinema uniquely brings the past 150,000 years of history to life in the space of 25 minutes.

Travel back in timeNorth-Limburg’s museums all have their own stories to tell, bringing the past into the present. The De Kantfabriek textile museum reveals the history of the textile industry in northern Limburg, while the Mission Museum in Steyl displays its varied collection of items that missionaries have brought to Steyl from around the world over the years.

Artistic impressionsMuseum Van Bommel van Dam and Stichting Odapark are both proud owners of considerable art collections. The Van Bommel van Dam is the museum of modern art in Venlo, which runs a varied programme of temporary exhibitions in addition to its impressive permanent collection. Meanwhile, the 19-hectare sculpture park at Odapark features a number of different sculpture walks.

Creative workshopsTo unleash your creative side, why not try one of the many workshops, ranging from flower-arranging to sculpting. At Atelier de Stal, you can express yourself in a sheet-painting workshop – and be as abstract or as restrained as you like!

At the Graanbranderij de IJsvogel distillery in Arcen you can try your hand at distilling alcohol yourself.


With its two national parks – De Groote Peel and De Maasduinen – nature-lovers in northern Limburg are spoilt for choice. These two parks, the meandering river Meuse and the rugged forests form the perfect backdrop to energetic outdoor pursuits and sporting activities!

Abundance of waterRunning through the whole of Limburg, the Meuse provides endless recreational opportunities. Several companies run boat trips on the Meuse, while various water-sports activities are organised on the Leukermeer, close to Well, and canoeing is available on the Niers in Ottersum.

North-Limburg adventuresFor thrill-seekers wanting to push the boundaries as far as they can, northern Limburg has plenty to offer. Avontuur in Arcen runs adventurous jeep safaris and dune buggy tours, while De Wevert activity centre in Horst hires out quad bikes for getting down-and-dirty on off-road treks through the woods.

And if you dare to board a RIB boat from Funtime Experience, you’ll find yourself racing across the surface of the Meuse at 70 kilometres per hour!

Hiking with a differencethrough De Maasduinen and De PeelRelish in the sights, sounds and smells of northern Limburg on a sensory hike or organised walk through De Groote Peel and De Maasduinen. Experienced guides take you to the lesser-known beauty spots within these two national parks.

Exploring by bikeThe clearly marked network of cycle paths makes it easy to plan your own routes – such as along the banks of the Meuse, for example. Maps are available from tourist information offices (VVV), larger hotels and holiday parks, or can be ordered online from www.lustforlimburg.com.

Several bicycle shops, such as Lemmen Tweewielers (Arcen), Kellenaers (Lottum) and Peeten (Baarlo), hire out good-quality bikes, while Solexes, Puchs and other retro mopeds are available to rent locally too. To help cyclists cover larger distances, the two bicycle water buses on the Meuse – the Maashopper and the Maascruiser – transport bikes and their riders between stops.

The latest gadgetsHikes and treasure hunts using GPS add an extra element of fun and excitement to walking. GPS trackers are available for hire from a number of places.

Tomorrow’s Trend from Venlo takes the technology a step further with its range of GPS activities for groups, including ‘The Target’. This tense game involves teams racing to track down a gangster, based on clues transmitted to a smartphone. The game is played in ‘augmented reality’, meaning a tour of Venlo is integrated into the computer game’s storyline.

Every conceivable variation on golfWhether you’re into golf clinics, pitch and putt, farmersgolf, minigolf, discgolf or umbrella golf – Northern Limburg provides this and more. Children can help out with feeding and tending to various animals. And, during ‘Cuddle Time’, the fluffy bunnies simply revel in all the attention!

Splashing aroundCountless subtropical swimming paradises are scattered throughout northern Limburg. At Center Parcs het Meerdal and Center Parcs het Heijderbos, one day is hardly enough to try out all the pools and waterslides! And there are plenty of places where you can take a dip in an outdoor pool or lake, or run off some energy in a playground.

Playtime – whatever the weatherEven if it’s raining, there’s more than enough in northern Limburg to keep the kids amused for the day. Kinjerkriebel and Kinderdrôme in Helden as well as Ballorig in Venlo are all large-scale, fully equipped indoor playgrounds. Meanwhile, outdoor playgrounds can be found on most holiday parks as well as at Klein Zwitserland, providing hours of fun in the fresh air. The Klimpark Fun Forest climbing park offers challenging elevated routes for adults and children.

Spooky fun after darkWhen darkness falls, the woods come to life: witches, ghosts and all kinds of ghoulish figures turn a walk through Meerlo into a chilling, thrilling adventure! Tailor-made spooky walks for groups of 50 people or more are organised by ’t Brugeind in Meerlo.
