At times it is important to get some insights into the issues where very little is known. Although various qualitative research methodologies are available to researchers today, very little is offered by the commonly used qualitative research methodologies like case study, phenomenology, biography, ethnography etc. to address the above issue. Grounded theory methodology provides a platform to ind out the answers to the questions of ‘How’ and ‘What’ is happening in case of a phenomenon under study, often in its true form when the researchers’ mind is free from any ‘apriori knowledge’. Grounded theory methodology (GTM) uses theoretical sampling to ind out the codes, code families and emerging themes from the existing or collected data that in turn can be used as a building block for theory building or acting as an input to the quantitative analysis. Enough methodological rigour can be present if the methodology is pursued correctly at every step. The beauty of this methodology is that the reliability of the results is grounded in the theory (or theoretical data) that is available to the researcher. It is better than content analysis or cross-tabs in the sense that one can relate the indings in the exact quotations made by the respondents as well as through constant comparison researchers can arrive at a saturation point where the data is not adding any new inputs.. Since its inception, grounded theory methodology has come a long way and has been propagated by various researchers through various approaches like positivist, objectivist, constructivist etc., which has helped in widening up the scope of the methodology. Using GTM, now one can analyse a situation where apriori knowledge is virtually non-existent to a situation where the researcher inadvertently has a bias about the phenomenon being studied due to existence of apriori knowledge about the phenomenon. The programme is designed keeping in mind all sorts of applications of Grounded Theory Methodology (GTM) using its purest forms to the latest versions and approaches.
