Remove 3 - 4 inches of existing sod and/or dirt. Cap and/or remove any sprinklers. (Optional) Lay a barrier fabric over native soil. Lay 2 - 4 inches of base rock Using vibrating plate compactor, compact to 90%. Be sure to set a rough grade for drainage. Lay and compact 1 inch of decomposed granite / path fines. Make sure the surface is as smooth as possible. Prior to installation lay turf out under the sun for at least 1 - 2 hours to allow turf to acclimate. Place a nail every 8 inches along the perimeter. Seaming tape can be used to secure seams. (Optional) Apply tape lengthwise to the bottom side of turf, leaving 6 inches stuck to turf and 6 inches hanging off (if using 12 inch wide tape). Lay turf back down with tape sticky side up. Do not peel away the backing until the seam looks acceptable. and secure opposite piece of turf to tape. Power broom again so that the blades are standing straight up. Use scissors to trim off any excessive turf blades. Note: Be sure the seams are taut and precise, the grain of the turf should always be facing in the same direction, and the space at the seam is the same as the stitching gauge.
