System Architecture

Global sensor network of seven types of sensors that detect, track and discriminate threat missiles

Redundant Terrestrial & Space systems provide assured communications

Redundant and Geographically diverse Fire Control System

Long-range, 3-stage Interceptors located at two launch complexes

Ground support equipment provides Interceptors with critical environmental protection, pre-launch preparation and post-launch communications

“Hit-to-kill” intercept technology destroys hostile threat missiles in outer space

2

What Is GMD?

24x7 Protection of the United States Homeland against long-range ballistic missile attacks
