to client computers.

You have volunteered to help the GetFit organisation with data capturing and other ICT functions

at a local athletics event. Various items of equipment must be set up and managed.

Question 8: Integrated Scenario

8.1 A small network consisting of 5 client computers and a server must be set up.

8.1.1 One of the volunteers said that the network will be a HAN. He was wrong. Explain

to him what a HAN actually is. (1)

8.1.3 Give ONE potential disadvantage of setting up a WLAN as opposed to a LAN in

this scenario, besides the fact that sending data wirelessly is less secure than

using cables. (1)

8.1.2 Explain why setting up biometric security on the server (and indeed, on any

computer), ensures a higher level of security than the use of passwords. (1)

8.2 The data on the server must be backed up.

8.2.1 Give ONE reason why optical media (CDs and DVDs) are generally a poor choice

of backup medium, besides the fact that optical media are slow and unreliable. (1)
