August 6, 2018 Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(s), It is with great pride that we invite you to our Open House at Elk Grove High School on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at 7:00 p.m. This is one of the most important and beneficial evenings of the school year, and we urge all Elk Grove families to take advantage. Ours is a great school, filled with people who care about your students, and we want to share what we do with you. During the evening, you will have an opportunity to follow an abbreviated version of your student’s schedule. During class presentations, teachers will provide you with an overview of each course, including course objectives and the resources used in class. Grading information, important projects/assignments, work expectations, supplies needed, and teacher contact information will also be shared. In addition to visiting with each of your child’s teachers, you will be able to attend special presentations targeted for parents of each class. The presentations will include information you need to know as a parent of a freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior student. These presentations will be repeated each lunch hour – periods 4, 5, and 6. An Open House schedule, which includes the locations of the class presentations, is included with this mailing. Please plan to attend the appropriate presentation during your child’s lunch hour. Class periods are ten minutes in length with a five-minute passing period. In advance of this evening, please work with your student to fill out the accompanying schedule, as this information will guide you from class to class. At any time during the evening you may see your child’s counselor and/or visit one of the tables in the main hallway set up for our Parent Teacher Council and Grenadier Athletic Boosters. If you were interested in joining either of these organizations, we would ask that you bring a check for $20.00 for PTC and/or $25.00 for the Gren Athletic Boosters. Please note that our Open House format is not the appropriate setting for individual conferences regarding student progress. Parents who desire a personal conference with a teacher should arrange for one at a later date. Finally, prior to the start of Open House, we will hold our EGHS Title I Parent Meeting from 6:00 – 6:45 p.m. in room 120. This meeting is completely optional, and it will include an overview of the Title I grant as well as an opportunity for our families to be involved in decisions regarding use of district and school parent involvement set-aside funds for Parent Involvement Activities. We look forward to seeing you on Thursday, August 30th. We at Elk Grove High School consider your student’s success our own, and Open House is an excellent opportunity to partner together as the new school year begins. Best Regards, Paul Kelly Megan Knight Kyle Burritt Principal Associate Principal Associate Principal

Nuestros mejores deseos, Paul Kelly Megan Knight Kyle Burritt Principal Associate Principal Associate Principal

ASBESTOS HAZARD EMERGENCY RESPONSE ACT
In accordance with the Asbestos Hazard Emergency Response Act (AHERA) and the Illinois Asbestos Abatement Act (105 ILCS 105/), you are being notified that all District 214 facilities contain various amounts and types of asbestos-containing building materials (ACBM). These materials do not pose any hazard to individuals unless the materials are disturbed.
The District maintains compliance with all applicable governmental and regulatory asbestos rules and regulations. The District also maintains compliance with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH) and Cook County Department of Public Health (CCDPH) guidelines for operations and maintenance activities. The District routinely performs operations and maintenance activities, required inspections, and surveillance activities to verify that the materials are being managed according to IDPH and CCDPH guidelines.
The Building and Grounds Department of each individual facility and the District Operations Department have on file copies of the AHERA Management Plans that describe the locations of all ACBM. These Plans are available for inspection during regular business hours. Contact the Director of Operations for more information at (847) 718-7619.
PESTICIDE APPLICATION NOTIFICATION REGISTRY
All District 214 facilities practice Integrated Pest Management to minimize the use of any pesticides on school grounds. The Structural Pest Control Act (225 ILCS 235/) and the Lawn Care Products Application and Notice Act (415 ILCS 65/) requires public schools to notify parents/guardians and school employees at least 48 hours (two business days) prior to any pesticide applications on school grounds. The term “pesticide” includes insecticides, herbicides, rodenticides and fungicides. The notification requirement extends to both indoor and outdoor pesticide applications. Excluded from the notification requirement are antimicrobials such as disinfectants, sanitizers or deodorizers, insecticide baits and rodenticide baits.
Pesticide application notification can be included in newsletters, bulletins, calendars and/or other correspondence currently published by each school and the District. All District 214 facilities have established a registry of individuals who wish to be specifically notified of pesticide applications on school grounds. To be included in this registry, please contact your student’s individual school or program for more information.

To our new families, welcome and to our returning families welcome back! Our students are fortunate to attend a school with an outstanding administration, exceptional teachers, and wonderful families.
The PTC functions to enhance our students’ educational, social, and extracurricular experiences. We are a partnership of parents, teachers, and administrators dedicated to making a difference through volunteerism, community involvement, and fundraising efforts for our kids. We encourage you to become part of a volunteer community that supports your children’s education in numerous ways! It’s a great way to meet families and help support our school. Together we can make a difference!
In order to fund the PTC’s projects we hold one major fundraiser the first Sunday in November, please save the date to lend us a hand and shop! Details on volunteering will be coming soon!
Meetings for the PTC will be held on the first Tuesday of each month starting in September at 7:30 pm in the foyer conference room. Follow us on Twitter @PTC_EGHS and Facebook - EGHS Parent Teacher Council for info on volunteer opportunities, meetings, and much more!
Please don’t hesitate to email if you have any questions about the PTC and what we do.
