The Toronto Argonauts are very proud of the
Club’s history, and more importantly, of the
association with the people who made that
history possible through the Argos Alumni
Association.
“We are all looking forward to the 2019 Ar-
gos season,” said Argos President Bill Man-
ning. “Hiring Corey Chamblin was the perfect
way to begin our year. As members of the
Alumni Association you understand just how
important it is to have the right coach at the right time and we’re extremely confi-
dent Corey is that man.”
Manning is cognizant of the importance of the Alumni Association, especially with
a team that possesses such a storied past.
“It’s an honour for me to be a part of this team’s incredible history,” continued
Manning, “I want to thank all members of the Alumni Association for their contri-
bution to the club. Whether you played in one game or are in the Canadian Foot-
ball Hall of Fame, you are a huge part of the Argonaut family. We’re working hard
to make sure the organization and the Alumni Association have a strong relation-
ship and I’m hoping to see many of you at BMO Field this season.”
Jim Popp is back for this third season as the Club’s General Manager and under-
stands the importance of working closely with those who have gone before this
generation of players.
“With the Alumni Association, we want to bring the past greatness together with
the future to understand the history of the club and help mentor our young play-
ers into greatness like our alumni.”
Head Coach Corey Chamblin returns to the team that he helped lead to the 2017
Grey Cup as its Defensive Coordinator. He spent last year with the Arkansas Ra-
zorbacks coaching staff. He has a direct message to all former Argos. “I would
love to see you at training camp,” said Chamblin. “We want to see you at prac-
tices, we want to see you at games. If you played for the Argos at any point
of your career you’re an Argo for life.”

Welcome to the first edition of the BOATMAN for 2019.
Hope everyone is getting through this crazy winter. For those in warmer climates, have a cold one by the pool for us folks back here enjoying these balmy Arctic temps. Thanks to you, overall alumni membership and engagement and attendance at our events has grown, mainly due to the partner-ship we continue to enjoy with the Toronto Ar-gonauts Football Club and MLSE. As a result of MLSE’s generous support last season, we have seen an increase in the sup-port and participation from alumni from all eras. Terrific to see Dave Cranmer, Ed Learn and Al Irwin up close and mingling with the fans at one of the games last year. This sea-son, MLSE and the Argos are continuing to support the association and alumni with sever-al new and existing opportunities. Again, the Association will kick-off its season with the 8th Annual Reunion scheduled this year Wednesday, April 17, 2019 at Royal Woodbine Golf Course in Toronto. Thanks to all that came out last year, and look forward to seeing you on the 17th. Traveling from Winni-peg, terrific seeing Paul Bennett last year who dropped in. Paul emailed me and noted that he is coming again this year. Also, our 20th Annual Golf Fun Day Tournament, the Associ-ation’s major fundraiser, tees-off at Eagle Ridge Golf Course, Ridge Golf Club Monday, June 3, 2019. It is time to renew your membership again and we look forward to everyone’s continued sup-port and hope to see you at our events during the season. So, please take a few minutes and send in your dues.
We are currently in the process of planning for the 2019 season. A communique was sent out asking for your suggestions and comments on a number of fronts. So, please email any thoughts you may have to [email protected] In 2015, the Toronto Argonauts Alumni Asso-ciation Support Fund (TAAA) was set-up to help alumni that may not be able to help themselves by offering short-term financial assistance, and will continue to be a key initi-ative of the Association this year. At its an-nual meeting, the Board of Directors gave its approval making the Support Fund its official charity. The fund will continue to be dedicat-ed to improving the quality of life of those alumni and their families in need. If you have not done so yet, please check out our website http://argoalumni.com. Our site has become an anchor for the Association and the go-to place for Toronto Argonauts football history. As a matter of fact, the Ar-gos Alumni button on the Toronto Argo-nauts website is a direct link to us.

2019 Argos Schedule
Highlights of the 2019 Schedule Touchdown Atlantic! The Toronto Argonauts are heading East to The Maritimes to take on the
Montreal Alouettes on Sunday, August 25th. As the league looks to grow the game of Canadian football from coast to coast and with the possibility of a 10th expansion team on the horizon, the Argos are honoured and excited to host a game in The Maritimes.
Under the lights: Toronto will play seven of its eight home games at BMO Field at night; three on Saturday nights, three on Friday nights and one on a Thursday night. The Argos call BMO Field home for the fourth consecutive year and will have a new playing surface to get excited about. A new grass surface, strengthened with intertwined artificial fibers that help protect and hold the sur-face together as well as reduce recovery time between events, will be in place before the Argos take the field for their home opener.
The return of the CNE game! The Argos welcome the Edmonton Eskimos to BMO Field on Friday, August 16th, at 7:30 p.m. Free admission to the CNE included with the purchase of a game ticket.

Former Argos Head Coach Scott Milanovich who
led the Argos to the historical 100th Grey Cup vic-
tory in 2012 over the former Team he played for
Calgary Stampeders remains as QB Coach with
the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Scott played football for the NFL, CFL, XFL and
NFLEL
giate career at the University of Notre Dame. Ismail was a two-time First Team All-American and was a runner-up for the 1990 Heisman Trophy. Ismail led the Fighting Irish to an undefeat-ed national championship season in 1988. To follow him on twitter @iamtherocketismail
Earlier this year the National Football Foundation announced former Argonaut WR/KR Raghib “Rocket” Ismail will be inducted into the College Football Hall of fame Class of 2019. Rocket played two seasons in Double Blue and was a member of the 1991 Grey Cup Championship team. Over his two seasons, he accumulated 1951 receiving yards, 1925 KO return yards, 1216 punt return yards, while scoring 21 touchdowns. Prior to signing with the Argos Rocket spent his colle-

Hank Ilesic makes Headlines again! 7x Grey Cup Champ & multiple records holder
Hitting the ground and running is nothing new
for Argos Alumni RB Bryan Crawford. Said to
be one of the smartest guys around by former
teammate Jason Pottinger, Bryan was named
as the new Director for RBC Canadian Open in
July 2018. The Queens grad will be leading the
2019 Tournament at Hamilton Golf & Country
Club this July. Good luck!

Canadian Air Force Veteran in WWII, Bud Fowler was named to the Etobicoke Sports Hall of Fame.
The 2x Grey Cup Champ Defensive End played in the famous Mud Bowl in 1950 as well as 1952. Role model in his community he has volunteered to coach both football and hockey teams through-out the years.

Chuck Liebrock— Windsor / Essex County Hall of Fame
Coach Chuck Liebrock and the Kelowna Secondary
School Owls made history in late November going to
the provincial championship finals for the first time
with an undefeated season only to with the big game
on December 1st at BC Place against the Bellmont
Bulldogs with a score of 38-12.
Liebrock the once 1968 Top Canadian hero has con-
tinued to volunteer and give back to football for over
60 years and has been recognized several times in
the community and by various Sports Halls of Fame.
First Canadian draft pick by the Argos in 1967,
Chuck Liebrock played on both sides of the line dur-
ing his 10 year CFL career ending it with the Blue
Bombers.

Toronto, ON – Hogan: How Happy are you to be back in Toron-to?
Chamblin: Super happy. I’m excited to be here in my new role. We want to get this ship righted and get it pointed in the right direction. This is a proud franchise and we need to get back to our winning ways.
Hogan: The Argonauts have a long, rich history. How important is that to you as the head coach?
Chamblin: When I came to the CFL in 2007 some-one asked me what I knew about the league. I said growing up in Bir-mingham, Alabama the first thing I saw was Doug Flutie playing in the snow and then holding up a trophy. When I thought CFL, I thought Argonauts. That’s the first part of it. Now we have got to make sure that history is carried on, not only in Canada, but in the U.S. too. We are the flagship team of
the CFL.
Hogan: You didn’t play in the CFL, but played in the NFL and NFL Europe. Now that you’re a pro football alumnus, how important is that to you?
Chamblin: Aside from the pains, the bruises and the arthritis it’s a tremendous-ly big deal to me (laughs). To me, being a part of a fraternity of elite football players is huge. We com-peted against one anoth-er, and now we’re best friends with some of our biggest rivals because we’re all aware of the what it takes to get to that level. Argo Alumni mem-bers understand the grind and the sacrifices needed to become a pro football player.
Hogan: How important is the connection between the alumni and the current roster?
Chamblin: One of my most important messages to the team this year will
be “It takes all of us.” That means it takes all of us to win and all of us to be successful and that includes players from the past. We are an extension of former Argonauts. They are the foundation and the relationship with our alumni members can be an influence on future greatness.
Hogan: What’s your mes-sage to members of the Argos Alumni Association as you prepare for the 2019 season?
Chamblin: My biggest message is that our Alum-ni members do matter. We want our former play-ers to get connected and stay connected. As I said, “It takes all of us.” We have got to find a way for us to work together. I want to see former play-ers around. Come to training camp, come to practice, come to the games. I want them to be a big part of what we’re doing.

In 2013 , we received word that an Ar-gonauts Alumnus was having difficulty paying bills related to medical issues which required extended health care and the need for specialized equipment. A letter outlining his situation, was sent to 15 of his former teammates and with-in 30 days $4,250.00 was donated and his bills were paid.
That was the beginning of the Argo-nauts Alumni Support Fund. Since that time , thanks to proceeds from Our Golf Fun Day and unsolicited donations re-lated to the Fun Day we have been able to provide assistance to several Alumni in their time of financial need.
Our goal is to grow the fund so that we can continue and expand on the assis-tance we can provide in the future. You can help by making your own personal donation today.

MedReleaf & CFLAA Observational Research Study
The Canadian Football League Alumni Association (CFLAA)
has always sought to make a difference by providing support to our Alumni, many of whom experi-
ence medical challenges following their athletic careers. One area of interest is identifying new safe
and effective therapies for managing chronic pain. For this reason, the association recently began a
collaboration with MedReleaf, a licensed producer of medical cannabis.
MedReleaf is sponsoring an observational research study. The study has been approved by a Re-
search Ethics Board, and is being conducted with additional collaborators BioPharma Services (a
Toronto-based Contract Research Organization) and CannaConnect and Cannascribe clinics
(Canada wide clinics which specialize in medical cannabis treatment).
The CFLAA is making you aware of the study and asking for you participation. Your participation in
the study is voluntary and the personal results obtained are kept strictly confidential. You will not be
named in any reports, publications, or presentations that may be released from the study. You can
find attached a brief procedure which describes how you can become a participant.

in Retired Athletes with Chronic Pain"
Steps for study enrollment:
1) If you are interested in medical cannabis treatment and enrolling in the study, you can contact or
register with CannaConnect or Cannascribe clinics:
NOTE: You do NOT have to be a new cannabis user to be eligible to participate. If you cur-
rently use cannabis and are interested in participation, please continue with the steps on the follow-
ing page.

Upon completing a short pre-qualification form, you will automatically be directed to an online regis-
tration form which utilizes a secure online signature software called Hello Sign. (*Please note in the
pre-qualification form under “How did you hear about us”, that this was through the CLFAA, to help
us ensure you receive the appropriate service).
b. You can also contact the clinic at 1-888-779-8462 to speak to the Patient Care team for infor-
mation about registering. When you call, let them know that you are a member of the CFLAA, and
were informed of the opportunity to be assessed for medical cannabis and to enroll in a research
study for retired athletes who experience chronic pain.
c. NOTE: you will need to provide supporting medical documentation of your condition in order to be
assessed by a physician at CannaConnect clinic (i.e. this could be a letter of diagnosis, a patient his-
tory report, or any other documentation signed by a medical doctor).

d. For online registration, visit: https://www.cannascribe.com/become-a-patient/ and click “Apply
Online” to complete the required forms. Once submitted, a member of the Cannascribe team will fol-
low-up with you regarding the next steps.
e. You can also contact the clinic at 1-844-277-2266 to speak with a member of the Patient Care
team for more information about the process.
2) If the prescribing physician feels that you are an appropriate candidate for medical cannabis, they
will complete a medical document (similar to a prescription), and clinic staff will help facilitate the reg-
istration process with a medical cannabis provider (i.e. MedReleaf).
3) If you meet the criteria to make you eligible to participate in the research study, you will be pre-
sented with a consent form that will explain what it means to participate. If you agree to participate
and provide your signature on the consent form, you will be contacted by a research team member
from MedReleaf to begin the study.

States expansion from 1993 to 1995.

ball League that operated in North America from 1965—1969. It
was established following the collapse of the United Football
League.

in 1993 with Kay Stephenson as Head Coach
and David Archer as the starting QB.
4. In1995, the Baltimore CFL Colts went through
a name change just before the season kicked off and became the
Baltimore Stallions marching their way to the Taylor Field in Sas-
katchewan to defeat the Calgary Stampeders 37-20.winning be-
came the only American franchise to win a Grey Cup game. Balti-
more QB Tracy Ham was the Grey Cup MVP and Head Coach
