Game DayEvery Friday is Game Day at the library beginning Friday September 9th, in the children’s room from 3:00 – 4 :30. There are many fun and exciting board games to play for children and their families. Bring a friend or make a new one. This is a drop in program, no registration required!

Banned Books Week

Stand Up for Your Right to Read Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, 2016Defend the First Amendment and Read a Banned or Challenged Book

Are books really still banned in the United States? Yes! Every year, the American Library Association reports hundreds of challenges to books in schools and libraries all over the United States, and ALA estimates that the unreport-ed number of challenges is significantly higher. People continually try to take away readers’ power to decide what books are right for themselves or their children by bringing challenges to remove books

Bubble DisplayChristina age eleven and Sophia age eight will display Danish themed items in the children’s room bubble. The Parrillo’s recently took a trip to Denmark and want to share their experience and knowledge of Danish culture!

Story times Registration for the fall series of story times will take place from September 26 – October 1. Turtle Time for children ages 1½ - 2½ will be on Mondays 10:15 or 11:15. Toddler Story hour for children ages 2½ - 3 ½ will be on Fridays at 10:15 or 11:15. Preschool Story hour will be on Wednesdays for children ages 3 ½ - 6 at 10:30 or 1:00 pm. Registration for all story hours is required and may be done by phone or in person. Sessions will begin on October 3rd.

Animation Club with Miss OliviaSunday, September 18th 1:30 – 3:30

Learn how cartoons are made and bring your drawings to life in this workshop for kids ages 8 to 12! We will work on paper and the computer to create flipbooks, short animations and GIFs. Class size: 12. Registration is required. Please call 949-3630, ext. 2 to register or sign up in person in the Children’s Room.

Bryant University Tutoring Program

The Greenville Public Library and Bryant University are collaborating once again in order to provide tutors to elementary school children who would like extra help in improving their math skills, reading comprehension or guid-ance on getting started with their homework. The tutoring sessions will begin the last week of September/early October. Applications will be available September 12th. Space is limited and will be filled on a first come first serve basis. Please call 949-3630, ext 2 with any questions.

Celebrate Roald Dahl Day on September 13th! This beloved British writer known for his wacky, extraordinary stories like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory has also written many more incredible books. Stop by the children’s room and check one out today!

The Baker AfterSchool Center Opens Tuesday, August 30 Every day that Smithfield schools are in session, the center is open. Everyone in grade 6-12 is welcome. Hours: 2:00-5:30 Monday – Thursday 2:00-5:00 Friday It is located in the Baker Room, which is on the lower level of the library. No sign up is needed! It is a place for young adults to do homework, meet friends, use computers, play games or do a craft. All activities will start at 3:00, Monday-Thursday, and homework time will be from 2:00-3:00. Check out our Facebook Page (Greenville Public Library TeenScape) for updates on weekly activities. Join us for our scheduled days of activities (from 3:00-4:00)
