Page 1 Finally I would like to extend best wishes to all our members and their families for a wonderful Christmas and a very happy & healthy New Year. I look forward to meeting up with you all in 2017 and enjoying another great year at the Greensborough branch. Regards Bob Goodyear We hope you have a great time at our “Roaring 20’s cum Gangster” night! Dear Members, As this is the final newsletter for the year, I wish to thank everyone who assisted with the running of the branch, especially members of the Execu- tive Committee — Peter, Lorraine & Marlene. I would also like to acknowledge the contribution of the General Committee and non-committee mem- bers who assisted during the year. We have had another great year with interesting speakers and visited many different places on our excursions. Do you remember the Melbourne City Sights tour and the small metal houses? Our overseas trip to Norfolk Island was a highlight and the extended tour to Tallangatta & North East Victoria was enjoyable - the scenery was magnificent. I particularly enjoyed hearing from Rodney Rich- ards from Angel Flight Australia and learning of their volunteer work and what about the Darebin Youth Brass Band who entertained us following our September AGM! What should we expect in 2017? The committee is exploring the idea of replacing some of our monthly speakers with interactive fun activities, i.e. a Music Quiz. What you think? Our excursions for 2017 will be mainly by bus, but others will be by own or local transport, but always they will be value for money. Please note that the venue for the High Tea in March 2017 has changed to the Westin Hotel - see page 4 for details………... 2017 - ‘Murray Magic Tour’ In 2017 the COBA committee is organising a tour similar to the one we did to Tallangatta this year, i.e. members use their free V-Line Rail Pass to Kerang where we are collected by bus and taken to the Riverland Motel (3½ Star) at Barham - our base for the duration of the tour. The price of the 7-day ‘Murray Magic Tour’ is $650.00/pp and includes 6 nights accommodation, day tours, breakfasts, morning teas and dinners. The tour visits Barham Red Gum Sculptures, Orchard Tour, Echuca, Riverboat Cruise, Swan Hill, Holden Museum, Bendigo Gold Mine or Cathedral, Talking Tram, Bendigo Pottery & Antiques, Lake Boga, Catalina Flying Boat base and a local farm. Numbers are restricted to 30x so we have made two reservations. Reservations can be accepted from the January 2017 branch meeting and must be accompanied by $100.00/pp deposit.

NOTICE BOARD

Are you planning to visit Thailand?

Member, Marg Wood - Tel: 9438 4219, is a regular visitor to Thailand and would be happy to advise you on: • The best shopping places. • Where to buy tailor-made suits. • Pitfalls for tourists. • The wonderful, exciting experiences

you can have. A must visit is to Kanchanaburi (the Thai Burma railway, the Bridge on the River Kwai, tigers living with monks, elephant rides & beautiful scenery). Do not pre-book a tour from Australia for Kanchanaburi - you can do so much better if you deal directly with a local travel agent.

The Fred Hollows Foundation uses second-hand spectacles and sunglasses to improve the sight of people in deprived communities in our Far North & Australian Islands. You can assist by bringing along no-longer-used specs/sunglasses. Cases for specs/sunglasses are also needed. Member, Lorraine Callow, will be happy to col-lect them at Branch meetings.
