Dear Greenmount families
Beginning at 6pm tonight we will be holding our end of year Awards Night. This year, all classes will be presenting the dance routine
that they have been learning in the Edu Dance program. The
students are looking forward to displaying their talents and energetic dance moves! We look forward to acknowledging some talented and
hardworking students – the recipients of Greenmount Primary Endeavour and Achievement awards.
Following the Presentation Night, there will be a short intermission allowing our
senior students to change into their more formal gear, ready for their big moment – the Graduation Ceremony, beginning around 8.30pm. Families of year 6
students will be invited to move their chairs closer to the stage for a good view of
proceedings as we send off this year’s group. A light supper will then be shared in the Library.
For the smooth running of the night, we ask that: √ All students meet in classrooms at 5.30pm and are collected from classrooms at
the end of the night √ All students stay with their classes for the duration of the Presentation Night so
that items and award presentations are not interrupted √ No smoking on school grounds – please go outside school grounds
√ All siblings not involved in the night’s events are seated with their families
Please note: gates on the oval or at the service entry will not be opened this evening. Please use the gates at Polygon Place, staff car park and at the Kiss and
Drive entry.
Looking forward to celebrating the end of the school year with all our wonderful
Greenmount Primary School families!
Thank you and goodbye
Amidst the celebrations there are also farewells – a time to acknowledge those staff
members who will be moving on from Greenmount Primary.
· Sarah Duhig energised our Music Program during 2016, introducing the ukulele and
community song at assembly. The students throughout the school appreciated the
enthusiasm Sarah brought to the teaching of music. Sarah’s talent as a violinist
has seen her win a position as Strings Coordinator at St Mary’s Karrinyup. We wish
Sarah every success in her new position and school.
· Marsha Adlam has been working with us over the last six months in Room1 during Mrs
Perrin’s absence. Marsha has done an excellent job with the Pre Primary students
and been a valuable member of the team during this time. We hope to see Marsha
return in other roles in the future.

As we enter the summer break, I would like to provide you with information around the school’s preparedness for the event of a bushfire. The Department of Education is committed to maximising the safety of its students and staff. Greenmount Primary School is listed on the Bushfire Zone Register. Inclusion on this register means that the school may be required to invoke a pre-emptive closure on a day for which a Catastrophic Fire Danger Rating (FDR) has been declared for
the Shire of Mundaring. A Catastrophic FDR means that if a fire starts, it is likely to be uncontrollable, unpredictable and fast moving. What does this mean for our school? When given advance warning by the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) that a Catastrophic FDR has been forecast for a given day, the Deputy Director General, Schools may direct the pre-emptive closure of our school. If the school receives such a direction, you will be informed of the possible planned closure by a letter sent home with your child. Parents of students absent on the day this letter is sent home will be contacted by telephone, so please ensure the school has up to date contact details for you. In the intervening period between the declaration of the pre-emptive closure and the day of planned closure, DFES will keep the Department informed of any change to the FDR forecast for the declared day. The final decision to pre-emptively close the school will be confirmed with the principal no later than 4.30pm on the day before the planned closure. If the forecast changes after that deadline, the closure will stand, regardless of improvements to the weather conditions later in the afternoon of the day before the planned closure or overnight. The intention is to limit confusion or uncertainty for parents and to allow you ample time to make alternative child care arrangements. Parents will be advised of the confirmation of closure, or its reversal, by a note sent home with your child on the day before the planned closure. Again, parents of students absent on this day will be contacted by telephone. It is anticipated that the school will typically only be required to close for a single day at a time, but this will depend on the weather. The school website will contain a notice to advise you of the current status of the school closure and when it is expected to reopen. I ask that you monitor local media for current information about fire danger ratings and notification of schools reopening. Staying tuned to ABC Local Radio in your locality is advisable. You can also check with DFES on 13 DFES (13 33 37) or www.dfes.wa.gov.au. Alternatively you can call me on 9294 1155 or the North Metro Education Regional Office on 9285 3600. If any of the options listed above for finding out when to send your child back to school will prove problematic, please contact the school to arrange for us to phone you to advise you when the school will reopen . As part of preparing for the event of a bushfire, we also schedule evacuation drills intermittently during the school year to ensure that students are familiar with how staff and students will respond to the situation. If you have any further questions, please contact us.
Thank you to everyone for your contribution to a successful and productive year at Greenmount
Primary School. Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and holiday break!

Christmas Raffle - We had a fantastic response for donations for the raffle this year, a whopping 16 hamper prizes assembled. We will be selling extra tickets just prior to the draw during Presentation Night so please come along to the raffle table or spot the ticket sellers amongst the crowd for your chance to be in it. All tickets are only $1 each.
Issue 8 Book Orders should have arrived at the time of writing and will be distributed to students very soon.
Entertainment Books We had a Family Pass Voucher for Rollerways Morley to be drawn from everyone who purchased an Entertainment Book from the P&C this year. At our last P&C Meeting we drew the winner, congratulations to Jo King who is the lucky recipient.
The last day for the shop is 14 December 2016, so parents are welcome to place orders up until then. They might only however be processed for 27 January 2017 pick up.
***The uniform shop also needs 2 parent volunteers to help us out on the 27th of January in the shop from 8.30am until 12pm. Email [email protected] or drop into the Uniform shop before end of term*** A new A-line Sport skirt ($15.00) and Microfibre Shorts ($17.00) is available for pre-order and pick up on 27 January 2017. They are both available from sizes 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14. They have been added to the order forms, and will be available to print off on our Facebook page. Could we please ask everyone's patience on the morning that school opens on the 1st of February 2017. As you all know, it will be a Wednesday, and as such the shop will be open, but since we all have kiddies that we would like to settle into their first day of their new clas-ses, we might only be able to open between 8.45am and 9am. So don't worry, if you see the door is closed. Someone will be there soon. But we are all parents, and kiddies come first. So if this is an issue for you, please come on the 27th of January, or order via FlexiSchools.
Thank you to everyone who voted for us during November’s Bankwest Easy Grants round. We won $1000! We are currently organising the purchase of new portable shade shelters for use at school events for the students.

Sauce Bottles needed!
Can you please save your sauce bottles and bring them to the office, there will be a collection box waiting for them. Tomato, BBQ, Mustard, we aren’t fussy on the flavours or the brands, just after 500ml or 900ml squeeze bottles please. Please keep saving through the holidays too, massive thank you to everyone who have brought some in so far.

2016 Wrap Up from the President What an amazing year the P&C has had. Thank you so much to our members, our parent volunteers and from every-one that supports our endeavours.
With all of your help, we have been able to achieve the following this year: • We have raised around $11 500 for the year from our various Fundraising
Activities. • We have raised another $1500 in Grants from Bankwest & Mundaring Shire, which
will go towards more Shade structures for sports days, and the running of the Safety House program.
• We have raised a combined total of $2132.50 in rewards dollars for the school with Scholastics Bookclub.
• We have raised $233.55 in rewards dollars with the Parent Direct & Chalk Toy catalogues
• The P&C has contributed $8285 towards shade sails over the small playground opposite the Uniform Shop.
• The P&C has implemented an online ordering system for the purchasing of uniforms & event tickets.
• The Uniform Shop has finally been able to get their own EFTPOS device to make it easier for parents and the P&C.
• The P&C has contributed $1000 towards Maths Resources for all children. • We are contributing $1500 towards Presentation Night. The P&C has been very fortunate to have some wonderful members this year, some with have brand new newbies, who have taken on roles and/or ran some new events that have never been done before. Very successfully I might add. So please do come along to our AGM on the 21st of February 2017. Come and find out what it is all about, you might just be able to come along to meetings for information, or whether you want to take on a role big or small, you will be very well supported by lovely people. All roles get vacated at the AGM, including all 4 Office Bearers Positions (President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer). So make 2017 the year you come and give the P&C a well deserved go. And last, but not least, the P&C has to say goodbye to a valuable member, whose last child is off the high school. Michelle Sutton, we will all miss your smiling face and helping hand. May you be happy wherever you go. Kind regards, Karlien Matthee - 2016 Greenmount Primary School P&C President
