SEMESTER ONE REPORTS Semester 1 reports have been prepared by class teachers, ready to be sent home Wednesday 27th June. These reports provide you with information about your childs progress and achievement for the year so far. Importantly, the reports will also provide you with information about your childs attitude, behaviour and effort – all key dispositions for successful learners. In WA student achievement is reported on a five point scale for all years from Pre Primary to Year 10. For Pre Primary, Year 1 and Year 2 reports, student achievement is reported using achievement descriptors, without letter grades. From Years 3 – 6, letter grades and achievement descriptors are used. The letter grades and descriptors are as follows: A - the student demonstrates excellent achievement of what is expected for this year level B - the student demonstrates high achievement of what is expected for this year level C - the student demonstrates satisfactory achievement of what is expected for this year level D - the student demonstrates limited achievement of what is expected for this year level E - the student demonstrates very low achievement of what is expected for this year level The assigned grades/descriptors are based on ongoing assessment of students undertaken by classroom teachers throughout Terms 1 and 2 with teachers making a professional judgement about each childs progress for this stage of the year. Attitude, behaviour and effort are of particular importance and, as well as the general comments included at the end of the report, should be the focus of discussions you have with your child.

Dear Greenmount families

More on Growth Mindset

Students with a growth mindset believe that intelligence can be developed. These students focus on learning, see effort as the key to success, and thrive in the face of a challenge.

Students with a fixed mindset believe that people are born with a certain amount of intelligence, and they can’t do much to change that. These students see effort as a sign of low ability, and may not be resilient in the face of a challenge. Students with a growth mindset do better in school.

Understanding that learning is a process, and accepting that there are things we don’t know YET is part of having a growth mindset. At Greenmount Primary School we encourage and support our students to be risk takers and ‘have a go’ because there is learning in making mistakes. Making an effort and persevering are important in the development of understanding concepts and deeper learning.

A chilly but clear morning dawned over the school. Not a cloud in sight, a firm Cross Country track and not a puddle or hint of mud about. The children were excited with anticipation. The running of our Faction Cross Country Carnival was scheduled to begin at 8.50am. The Year 3 and 4 students run a course of 1 kilometre in distance. The Year 5 and 6 students compete over a distance of 1.5 kilometres. All races were on schedule and we finished on time. A special thanks to Mrs Bays (School Chaplain), Mrs Nelson and Miss Waitland for supervising our children around the course. A regular thanks to our Faction Captains and Faction Vice-Captains for the terrific job they always do. A good job by Mrs McEwen and Mrs Astle for their announcing prowess. Well done to all participants. Every runner earned their Faction 1 point. The first 4 placegetters earned bonus points for their faction. Well done to the following placegetters:

Bread Tags and Ring Pulls for Charity

Miss Waitland is collecting Bread Tags and Ring Pulls for Charity. Ring Pulls are recycled and used for making wheelchairs. Bread Tags are sold then recycled into item such as coat hangers, seedling trays and picture frames. The money is used to buy wheel chairs for people overseas. There are two boxes in the foyer that you can put your ring pulls and bread tags into.

MythBusters - Part 2 Busting Myths about joining our P&C

Myth 4: I don’t have any ideas so I can’t contribute

Busted: While we always need new ideas for fun new events and activities, we also need people who are just happy to pull their sleeves up and offer their help. Some events are well established and we have guides to follow, other times we are making it up as we go along. Whether you are a think-outside-the-box person or prefer to be methodical and follow guidelines, we need people like you.

Myth 5: If I join I will be hounded to help at lots of events

Busted: The P&C is not a one-way ticket to endless drudgery. You can choose to help at one event, all events or no events. We respect each other’s limits and your right to say no.

The next P&C meeting will be held on Tuesday 19th June 2018 at 6.30pm in the Staff Room. Please enter through the service entry and park on the basketball court. Everyone

welcome.

The P&C would like to advise that Emma Prentice has taken over the role of Uniform Shop Co-ordinator. Thank you Emma and welcome!
