  • GREENLAND & ICELAND “plus”

    SCOTLAND & ENGLAND

    Aboard the luxurious “Island Princess”

    August 8-26, 2021

  • the Scottish Government, the Scottish Parliament and the supreme courts of Scotland. The city's Palace of Holyroodhouse is the official residence of the monarch in Scotland

AKUREYRI, ICELAND: It is a populous, bustling city with its thriving industries from shops, cafes, and museums, at the base of Eyjafjörður Fjord. An impressive population of almost 20,000 people live here and it is the second largest urban area and the largest city in the North.

ISAFJORDUR, ICELAND: It is the largest town in the Westfjords peninsula, with some 2600 inhabitants. An ancient church site and a trading post since at least the 16th century, although a real town did not start to form until after mid-19th century. The growth of the town was triggered by salt fish production, and ever since then the fishing industry has been vital for the community. Other industries, such as tourism and the service sector have grown in recent years and decades.

REYKJAVIK, ICELAND: The northernmost capital of a sovereign state in the world, it is among the cleanest, greenest, and safest cities in the world. The first permanent settlement in Iceland was in Reykjavík in 874 AD. The word Reykjavík translates literally as “smoky bay”.

QAQORTOG, GREENLAND: Qaqortoq is a town in southern Greenland, set within a system of fjords. The town center is home to 18th-century colonial buildings and a landmark fountain. Qaqortoq Museum features displays about Greenlandic culture. From Lake Tasersuaq, trails lead through rugged mountains to the old Norse settlement of Igaliku.

NANORTALIK, GREENLAND: Tucked away in the fjords of southern Greenland is Nanortalik, the tenth largest town in the country (tenth largest might sound like a whole lot of people, but in Greenland that means a population of only 1300!). Brightly colored houses line the streets, immense mountain peaks rise in the distance, and icebergs float by in the bay. It’s a quiet place, with a totally different feeling from the southern Qaqortoq, a town three times larger in population.
