Ladies and gentlemen,

I am very glad you could join us for the first LANXESS Mobility Day North America here in the United States – the heart and soul of the automotive world.

As you well know, the very nature of transportation is changing rapidly, and we must work together to develop technologies and products that effectively enable more sustainable mobility.

All of us at LANXESS are especially proud of the innovative products and technologies that we, as a leading specialty chemicals company, are currently contributing to the automotive industry. But the development of sustainable mobility requires cooperation, communication and understanding among all industry participants.

This conference gives all of us a much-needed opportunity to interact and to share insights, ideas and new developments of interest. We will be hearing from industry experts who will examine the science, technology, chemistry and regulatory changes that will affect the future of mobility here in North Ameri-ca, and throughout the world.

We are proud to host this conference in the spirit of exploration and innovation that represents LANXESS.

Sincerely,

Dr. axel c. heitmannChairman of the Board of ManagementLANXESS AG

Dr. christopher L. kitchensAssociate Professor: Nanotechnology, Surface Science, & Advanced MaterialsClemson University

Professor Kitchens' research involves design of advanced materials for clean and efficient energy ap-plication through technological developments in nanotechnology, renewable resources, membranes and smart materials. The research implements designed functionality of nanomaterials and surfaces using tailored chemical functionalities, material processing using tunable fluids, development of smart materials with switchable properties, and state-of-the-art characterization techniques.

Professor Kitchens' research takes a multidisciplinary approach using chemistry for chemical functionality design through structure activity relationships, materials science for characterization, and chemical engineering for product and process design. The goal of developing new materials with a wide range of applications is paramount where the methods of synthesis and chemistry of components will define the resulting material, and thus the application. Attention to the principles of green chemistry in the development of sustainable processes is a key factor of his research with both environmental and economic benefits.

Professor Kitchens earned his bachelor’s degree from Appalachian State University and his PhD from Auburn University.

Bob LutzFormer Vice ChairmanGeneral Motors CorporationMember, Lotus Advisory Council

Bob Lutz is a world-renowned auto executive known for his organizational insight and his legendary ability to manage the design and development of new vehicles while facing opposition and organiza-tional resistance. With almost 50 years of industry experience, he has left his mark on all three of the big US automakers – most recently GM, where he recharged its previously undistinguished vehicle lineup.

Lutz, a Zurich, Switzerland native, came to the United States at the age of 7. He became an Ameri-can citizen and studied extensively at UC Berkeley, receiving a degree in Production Management and an MBA. Before his career in the automotive industry kicked off, Lutz served in the United States Marine Corps as Naval Aviator in the late 50’s. He then held several senior executive positions for several car companies including, General Motors, BMW, Ford, Chrysler and then moving onto Exide Technologies.

Lutz is now Founder and Head of Lutz Communications and the author of two books, "Guts: the 7 Laws of Business that Made Chrysler the world’s Hottest Car Company" later transformed into a management and leadership book, "Guts: Laws of Business from One of the Most Innovative Busi-ness Leaders of Our Time". And his most recent publication: "Car Guys vs. Bean Counters: The Battle for the Soul of American Business".

Lutz is credited with creating several vehicles, including the Dodge Viper Sports Car and the rede-signed Chevrolet Malibu Sedan. He accomplished these feats by affording freedom to designers that had not been given for years due to the restrictions and stifling of creativity by other industry execu-tives. Lutz continues to be an innovator and leader in clean car technology and a well-respected automotive businessman.
