on heating lines within pilot territories,2. Interviewing by telephone of contact and

responsible persons in the pilot territories,3. Meeting the chief engineer of “Southern Karelian

electric power lines” company.4. Making inquiry for the road network of the pilot

regions,5. Making inquiry from Kostomuksha Prionegye

grid company for power lines analysis.

Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kalevala regionPopulation – appr. 9500.

Main settlements: Kalevala settlement, Borovoi settlement, Yushkozero settlement, Luusalmi settlement.

856 apartment houses, 822 private houses.Centralized heating supply for 25% of the residential

area (32% of population).Electric heating on 3% of residential area.Wood heating on 72% of residential area.Type of fuel used: firewood (12 thousand solid

m3/year).

Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kalevala region, Kalevala

settlement Main heating consumer – Kalevala settlement:5 boiler houses,Wearout of equipment – from 3% up to 75%

(53% - average wearout).Total amount of boilers – 15.Total power output – 5,31 Gcal/hour.Total length of the heating lines – 7,8 km.Lines wearout – over 50%.No reserve for housing improvement.

Heating supply system – Kalevala region

Recommendations:For the region as a whole – to make usage

perspective assessment of peat fuel pellets produced in the region,

For Kalevela settlement – consider two boilers combination, additional boilers installation.

For Borovoi settlement – boiler renovation is required.

For N. Yushkozero settlement – firewood supply improvement is required.

Research preliminary resultsHeating lines – Kostomuksha

Centralized heating supply – 99% of consumers.

Type of fuel used – oil fuel.Central boiler:

- Total amount of boilers – 7.- Power output – 490 Gcal/h.- Repair of one boiler is required.

Total length of heating lines – 57 km.Years of heating lines installation - 1981 –

1982.

Heating lines - KostomukshaRecommendations:Growth of private sector construction

requires decentralized heating supply solution,

Consider module boilers on local fuel construction.
