"MAKING A DIFFERENCE"
Pre-Seminar Task # 2: Off Ice Training Thyland Cooperative Fun Games
CIRCUIT TRAINING MONOPOLY
Rob Kardas [email protected]
Leamington Flyers Junior 'B' Hockey Club
The following exercise is fin, encourages cooperation among teammates, while at the
same time offers players a strenuous training session. Depending on the number of players; the
athletes are put into teams of 3-4. Each team comes up with a nickname for themselves and
elects a captain. One coach is located at the "GO" mark and his job is to count the number of
times a teams passes the "GO" mark. Another coach is located at the "GO TO JAIL" spot and
his job is to make sure players who land on this location follow directions. The other coach is in
the middle of the gymnasium and he is holding a number of cards face down, with the numbers 1-
6 written on them. This coach represents the "DICE", as team captains will be approaching him
to pick a card and then travel the allotted number of places. Remaining staff members can be
situated throughout the gymnasium and their job is to encourage the players, make sure they are
doing the exercise correctly, along with the allotted number of repetitions.
The game begins with each team beginning at the "GO" marker, just like in Monopoly.
On the whistle, the first team's captain will run to the middle and pick a card from the coach. His
team will travel the allotted number of spaces on the "Monopoly Board" and proceed to do the
exercise and number of repetitions at that location. Once the first team captain has moved his
team away from "GO", the coach in the middle will blow his whistle again and team two's
captain will run to the middle to "roll the dice". This will continue until all teams are in the
game. MI team members must do the allotted number of repetitions at the designated spot on the
Monopoly Board, before the team captain can run to the middle to roll again. Only the team
captain is allowed to approach the coach in the middle.
The goal of each team is to pass "GO" as many times as possible in an allotted time (30
minutes). At the "Community Chest" mark, cards can be made up with different instructions.
A team that lands on community chest, must choose the top card and follow the instructions (i.e.
Do 25 push-ups, Move back 3 spaces, Get Out of Jail Free, etc.). The "Free Parking" and
"Water Works" spots are rest areas where teams can stop and take a drink.
The goal of each team is to pass "GO" as many times as possible. You can also offer
teams a reward for passing "GO". The teams that do well are the teams who can encourage each
other while doing the various exercises, providing they do not land on "GO TO JAIL" to many
times. It is a fin form of dryland training because it incorporates a fin board game like
Monopoly with a number of different exercises.

DOT DRILL STANDARDS Under 50 seconds: Super Quick 50-60 seconds: Great 60-70 seconds: Average 70-80 seconds: Need more work Over 80 seconds: Slow
AGILITY RECORD CHART Agility drills in the BFS program are absolutely necessary so that your body can adjust to the increase in size and strength that you attain through power weight training. There are many excellent agility activities: examples are jumping rope, backward running, shuttle run and spinning type drills. You can select two agility drills including the Dot Drill. Record the date and times only when you improve your time.
Agility Drill #1
, E
L,
Agility Drill #2 ,
THE BFS DOT DRILL
The Dot Drill will be hard at first. It is tiring and you may appear clumsy. However if you will do this six times a week, in a very short time improvement will come rapidly You can have quick feet in a month or two.
Each athlete should set two goals. The first goal is to do it 6 times per week and the second goal should be to increase speed. In BFS The Dot Drill Video ($29) by Ex-Utah Jazz Center. 7-4- 300 lb. Mark Eaton did the Dot Drill in 60 seconds after a weight training session.
Five dots are placed on the floor. It works best if a 4- round dot is painted on the floor. Some coaches paint many stations for larger groups. An athlete at home can use anything approved by his parents to mark his dots. There are five separate dot drills each drill is done a total of six times. BFS sells a great Dot Drill Pad that has a great non slip surface with integrated dots for $39.00, a super surface for doing the BFS Dot Drill.
I. Up and Back A. Start at one end with feet on A and B. B. Now jump quickly to C: with both feet then to D and E. D. Now come back the same way. D. Repeat 5 more times.
2. RiOlt Foot A. Your feet from up-and-back should be on dots A and B.
Now go to dot C with your right foot. B. Now go in order: Dot E. D, C, A. B. C. Repeat 5 more times.
3. Left Foot A. You will end the right foot drill on Dot B.
Now go to dot C with your left foot. B. Now go in order: Dot E. D, C. A. B. C. Repeat 5 more times.
4. Both Feet A. You will end the left foot drill on Dot B.
Now go to C with both feet. B. Now go in order with both feet: Dot E. D. C, A. B. C. Repeat 5 more times.
5.Turn Around A. You will end the Both Feet Drill on Dot B. Now go to C with both feet. B. Now go to dots D and E spread apart both feet as in the up and-back (Drill #1). C. Now quickly jump and turn 180° to the right and face the other way. You should still be on D and E. D. Hit C with both feet and then A and B with feet split. E. PRE-SEMINAR TASK # 2-OFF ICE TRAINING
NAME: RON SHOR E-MA1L:shortie @ idirect.com
TEAM CATEGORY AND LEVEL M.ATOM "A"
TASK: VISUALIZATION IN PRE-GAME
Design an off ice training session for the above topic and identify the age, appropriate performance level, expectations and outcomes.
Close your eyes and think about coming to the rink for the big game. You go into the dressing room get on your equipment, warm up,do your stretches, listen to the coach's talk and go on the ice.The referee blows his whistle and all the people in the stands are cheering. You are on the starting line up. You go to the face off circle. You look up at mom and dad and you wave to them. The next thing they are yelling, you look around and the other team has got the puck and are going in on your goalie, they shoot they score. OH NO. When we go on the ice and the referee blows the whistle for the opening face off we have to do the following. 1. Line up in our proper spots (Show from diagram). 2. Know what the centre iceman is going to do with the draw.(show diagram of secret
plays). 3. Two hands on our stick and stick on the ice 4. Have your stick on the inside of the circle over top of or in front of your opponent and
closer to the centre ice than his stick. .(show what you mean by lining up players) 5. Watch the referee's hand for the puck to drop. 6. Be ready to start at the drop of the puck. 7. Closest man goes to the puck and get control. S. If the puck goes to one of your defencemen bump your man lightly (not enough to get
a penalty) and move to open ice for a pass. 9. Move the puck into the other teams end and get a good shot on net. 10. SCORE.
Have rope and or string and make red line and circle for players to line up at and show what is meant by stick inside other team and 1/2 way between for defencemen. Show different secret plays and where each player should go. Show how to bump lightly but not enough to get an interference penalty.
/4 AI stt,,ur
1.Left winger: Where the circle joins the red line, facing torwards your centre ice man — stick on the ice between other player and your centre ice man. 2.Right winger: Where the circle meets the red line. Same as left winger. 3. Left defence:On the red circle V2 way between centre iceman and left winger. Stick on ice and ready to go. If puck comes to you move up and advance. If puck goes to other side of ice move back until we have control and puck starts to move forward into other teams end. 4. Right defence: On red circle I/2 way between right winger and centre iceman. SAME AS LEFT WINGER 5. Centre iceman. Make sure all players know what you want to do with puck. Draw to left del right del go forward to right or left winger.Make sure all players INCLUDING THE GOALIE are lined up in proper position before taking the draw.Get draw back to def and bump your man lightly so he cannot get through to defenceman. Skate to open ice for pass.Shoot on net and score.
ALL PLAYERS BE READY FOR ALL FACE OFFS AND MOVE QUICKLY TO THE PUCK> TALK TO YOUR TEAMMATES AND IF THE CLOSEST PLAYER IS GOING TO GET THE PUCK MOVE TO OPEN ICE FOR A PASS WHEN WE GET CONTROL IT GIVES US THE ADVANTAGE RIGHT OFF THE BAT> ITS OUR PUCK AND WE WANT TO CONTROL IT AS MUCH AS WE CAN DURING THE WHOLE GAME>THE OTHER TEAM WILL GET UPSET IF WE KEEP GETTING THE PUCK AND THEY WILL START MAKING MISTAKES OR TAKING PENALTIES

DIAGRAM AREA
TOPIC - Scoring That Goal
LOCATION - Dressing Room
Ask players to relax, then have them take two deep breaths and breathe nice and easy.
"Close your eyes ... Pwant you to imagine going one on one with the goalie and scoring that winning goal."
"Feel your grip tightening on the shaft of the stick in anticipation of receiving a pass. The pass that will send you in all alone on the goalie, your blade firmly on the ice and cupped slightly. Feel your arms moving to absorb the momentum of the puck while cradling it."
"Now, looking in the direction of the goalie, you start to increase your speed. Your knees are bent, your body weight shifts and transfers above your drive leg as you power skate towards the goalie from your side of centre ice. Feel your blades cutting the ice behind you ... the puck on your stick in front of you."
"Now you're striding full out and breathing is faster. You see the goalie telescoping out towards you, getting ready to play you one on one. Your heart is beating faster now. You're excited. You know you have to get the goalie to move or break his stance, so you fake to the left, move your head and drop your shoulders. It works!"
"He moves to meet you face to face - you see the opening in the top right corner - glove side. Quickly you move the puck over to your right side, your knee closest to the puck bends as you scoop the puck up off of the ice with the toe of your blade. Then with a quick flex of your lower and upper wrist the puck leaves the blade. It heads towards the goal net, high over the goalie's glove but under the cross bar. You see the net move - it's a goal!!!"
"What a feeling!! You can score that winning goal if you truly believe that you can!"
