    IMPORTANT

    NEW REOPENING DATE : JANUARY 4, 2021.

Reopening is based on the level of COVID-19 risk,

as well as enough volunteers being on duty and a supervisor being available for each activity.

Entry to the building will be through the front doors only. Masks must be worn.

All those entering the building must have their temperature taken with a no-touch thermometer.

Social distancing of 6 feet or more is required. Frequent disinfecting of hands is required.

EFFECTS OF COVID-19 ON OUR CENTER

The pandemic has stopped our GPBSC fundraising ac-

tivities, but it has not stopped our Center’s ongoing finan-

cial obligations. Even while closed we have to pay for

utilities, liability insurance, pest control, and much more.

Therefore, we are especially grateful to those who are

already sending in their 2021 membership fee and to our

“Super Senior Supporters” who have made special dona-

    tions.

Many of us have fewer expenses because we’re not go-

ing to movies or on cruises, we’re not eating at restau-

rants as often, not traveling as often, we’re using less

gas, shopping less, etc. If you’re able to donate some of

those savings to our Center, we could ensure a good

GPBSC future — a future when we are all able to enjoy

fellowship with one another as we participate in the vari-

    ous activities our Center provides.

Donations will be immensely appreciated. Checks should

be made out to the GPBSC

    and mailed to:

the other two kinds are worn for health concerns.

CPAP stands for continuous positive airway pres-

sure. There are more than 8 million CPAP users in the USA, a

    number that is increasing yearly.

PPE, personal protective equipment, has become a recent part

of our vocabulary as we learn the benefits of

    wearing a mask during a pandemic. It’s a

change from our routines, and sometimes we

are reluctant to make a change from the familiar.

modest change asked of us when

    healthcare workers are enduring so

much more as they care for COVID-19

    patients.

We can all try to be part of the solution, not the problem.

    Dear Members,

It was nice to see so many of you at the Volunteer Meeting on September 30th. Like you, I wish we could simply reopen our doors and go back to the way things were before COVID-19. However, we all must be overly cautious if we are to survive this pandemic. It saddens me to say this but with the COVID-19 numbers on the rise again, not to mention it being Flu Season, the Board of Directors and I have decide to delay the Phase 1 reopening to January 4, 2021.

We have put many safeguards in place, written new Policies and Procedures, added a Nurse’s Station, and purchased multiple sanitizing supplies and equipment but we fear that may not be enough. That being said, if just one person who is infected with COVID-19 comes into the Center and does not follow protocol we risk the lives of so many of you, and we are not willing to take that chance. We are hoping that January will bring us better news, maybe a vaccine or the number of COVID cases may have dropped dramatically. The Board and I continue to meet monthly, sometimes daily, as we attempt to evaluate this situation and continue to look for ways in which we may create a safe environment for us all.

On a good note, the City of Palm Bay has begun the scope of work to improve our Center. New sidewalks have been poured, parking lot han-dicap striping has been done, the bridge has been demolished, and in the middle of the month work inside the Center is schedule to begin.

We are asking our membership to continue to support the Center by renewing their membership (a mail-in form is on p. 5). We realize that you cannot participate in the Center activities at this time and so your continued support means more to us than words can ever express. In addition, I would like to thank our members who continue to support the Center in the form of both monetary contributions and time during this closure.

Please be meticulous with regard to health, especially during the holiday season.

    Sincerely,

    Dave
