What is HIA?

• A combination of procedures, methods and tools by which a policy, programme or project may be judged as to its’ potential effects on the health of a population and the distribution of those effects within the population. (WHO 1999)

• HIA aims to inform and influence decision- making to enhance the positive impacts of any decision and reduce (or eliminate) any negative impacts.

Aims and Objectives• Aim – to consider the health impacts of the Healthy Start vitamins with regard to Vitamin D across Greater Manchester.

• Objectives – to consider:1. The health impacts of universal supplementation of population sub groups such as: ☼ All pregnant women ☼ All women - postnatal (up to a year after birth) ☼ Children up to their 4th birthday

2. Identify potential barriers to access Healthy Start vitamin supplementation

3. Examine potential health impacts of the universal supplementation across the defined population sub groups.
