Message from the President
Linda Kohler
Happy March!
We are almost finished with winter! This is the month that
changes in the weather begin to let us know that spring will
be here soon! I can't wait!
Have you signed up for our annual retreat? I hope so! It's
a fun weekend! The best part, besides the wonderful paint-
ing of projects, is the opportunity to step out of everyday
life and relax! And bond with friends, and eat! The antici-
pation of a fun weekend is almost as much fun as the
actual weekend!
Have a good month!
Linda :)

Dear Painting Friends,
Hope everyone is well and enjoying this mild winter we are having!
I would like to Thank Daisy Masminster for teaching her Funky Fun Flower Board on February 12th. Daisy
had 15 students, and it was a lot of fun! Daisy shared her knowledge of pen/ ink/ pencil and her class was
very informative, and I just love my piece!!
Here’s what’s happening March, April, May and June
March: Stephanie Hauser is teaching our March 12th class. Stephanie’s project sheet is in this news-
letter and there is still plenty of time to sign up. Currently Stephanie has 7 students signed up and Stepha-
nie’s deadline is March 5, 2017.
April: No Meeting!!!! GCDA’s Annual Retreat April 21-23. There is still time to sign up and more in-
formation is in this newsletter.
May: I will be teaching at our May 21st meeting. My project will be at the March meeting and fea-
tures Daisies painted on a storage jar.
June: Nancy Vincent will be teaching at our June 11th meeting, and her project will be coming soon.
Janice Miller is our first Workshop of the year on June 16th & 17th. Janice’s project sheets will be avail-
able at the March meeting.
FYI: I will always send out reminders to everyone that has signed up for any of our pending clas-
ses, and new information will be forthcoming. If you have any questions, concerns or would like to add or
remove your name from a class, please do so in a timely manner.

The theme for the retreat this year is “Paintbrush Roundup!” The décor and theme
will be western.
Our main raffle will be a chest painted by JoAnn Heurich. We will have tickets to
purchase at the March meeting. We will also have tickets at the March meeting for
the “Room & Meals 2018” prize, a value of approximately $250, which usually can be
purchased only at the Retreat. We believe this will provide a good opportunity for
those in our club who can’t attend the retreat, to have a chance to win. Tickets are
$1 each or 6 for $5.00.
We are getting raffle baskets ready for the retreat weekend drawing and will gladly
accept contributions to any raffle basket. Suzanne Fairbanks is coordinating a bas-
ket for our group to donate. Please contact her if you have a donation.
We are seeking volunteers to create raffle baskets. If you are interested in creating
a raffle basket or donating to one of the prizes listed below, please contact Nancy
Vincent. Her information is shown below. Jo Sharpshair is also willing to accept
donations and her information is also listed.

Hi All Y’all! Here's an update on our 2017 Service Projects.
First, we are going to collect art supplies and/or money for Saints Peter and Paul
Academy in Reading Ohio. This is a small private school run without support from
the Archdiocese of Cincinnati. Below is a letter from the art educator given to Su-
zanne Fairbanks who works at the school. Sandy, it should be noted, is a volunteer
teacher for the school, as are many of the teachers there. On the next page is a
“wish list” from Sandy for art supplies.
Second, we will be painting Memory Boxes purchased from Cupboard Distributing,
and they will be available soon. A Memory Box Station will be set up at Retreat this
year for those of us who would like to paint them when we have a little down time.
Jan Bowen is donating the paint for the boxes. To find out more about this project,
please visit Memoryboxes.org. This is quite inspirational!!!
Thank you,
Peggy Hermes

Sts. Peter and Paul Academy is a small school located in Reading, Ohio.
The school is run totally on fundraising, tuition and donations.
Saints Peter and Paul Academy does not receive financial support from
any parish.
Our students have a supply list which includes an art supply that is
shared with the entire school. Such as first grade brings in glue, second
grade brings markers, third grade brings in construction paper, etc.
There are only about 120–125 students in our school.
It would be nice if the students could work in a medium such as painting
on canvas or working in clay, but these supplies are too expensive for the
families to bring in. It would be such a wonderful experience if the chil-
dren were given an opportunity, by an organization such as yours, to be
able to create art that would last longer than a drawing on construction
paper.
Thank you for your interest in our little school.
Sandy Pierce-Harsch
Volunteer Art Educator.

2017 CHRISTMAS BASKETS AND ORNAMENTS FOR 2017 Melanie Wilmhoff, Coordinator
At the February meeting, I returned embroidered items to Barb Winter-berg, Anne Dick, Ann Boren, Gayle Wissel and myself. Gayle and Barb showed their items to the members who were there and I think everyone was happy with the result.
I received orders for the next batch from Suzanne Fairbanks, Stephanie Hauser, Linda Kohler, Michelle Kohler, Carole Arend, Sherida England, Pat Hull and Linda Whaley. I will email you with the price of the item you wanted be-fore we order them. And I hope to have them back to you at the March meet-ing.
Let me know if you have any questions!

Christmas Raffle reportChristmas Raffle reportChristmas Raffle reportChristmas Raffle report I hope you all have not forgotten about painting your ornaments! Why not go
ahead and get them painted and turned in, and then you are done with them for
the year! Sounds like a great idea, doesn’t it? You know the weather is pretty
good right now and it’s only going to get better. You’re not going to want to stay
inside and paint ornaments in another month, so . . . . . . . . .
Let’s get them done!Let’s get them done!Let’s get them done!Let’s get them done! At the February meeting, I received a basket from Stephanie Hauser (See page

them in early!!
Thanks!
