And this year seems to be moving fast. We are already approaching May with the Legislative Day Briefing Session just around the corner at the upcoming CAR Directors' meetings. This is known as the REALTOR® walk-on the Capitol. For any and all REALTORS® that would like to travel to Sacramento. The C.A.R. Directors, our CEO, GAD, some LGR committee members, and some of the graduates from our Leadership Academy will be attending this year. President-Elect Roe Leer will have two motions going before the REALTOR® Action Fund Committee. We will all be bringing you back a lot of very good information. Look for our director reports the first of June. The reports will be posted on GAVAR’s home page (see C.A.R. Directors' Reports tab on the right side). You can also find very good information on www.car.org . I will be attending the N.A.R. Midyear meeting in Washington D.C. the third week of May. With this time of year coming up please remember to register to vote if you have not already done so. We will soon be looking at our board election as well. So if you are thinking of running for a position (and meet the qualifications) or know someone you want to encourage, now is the time to start. In April we had our first Broker forum. It was well attended with very good participation. Thank you to all the Brokers that attended. If you were not able to attend please look for the next meeting later this year. I would like for this forum to continue and grow. We are looking into new ideas to expand our member benefits and services. Please make sure to visit www.car.org and www.realtor.org for the many tools and benefits there to use and grow your business. If you haven’t visited these sites recently you are missing out. I would like to thank you all for taking the time to read our newsletter. And please share with a friend. We need help getting the news out. Have a great month. Your President, Dave Slover

What’s Inside

APRIL 2012 ISSUE A PUBLICATION OF THE GREATER ANTELOPE VALLEY ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®

A message from your 2012 GAVAR President

I’m really happy to see that our newsletter has taken hold. You can also find very good information on www.car.org.

Your President,

Dave Slover

Greetings from the Local Government Relations Committee:

We would like to remind everyone that this is an election year and it is vital to know we can count on YOU to vote. California REALTORS® cannot afford to ignore what occurs in the halls of government because Real Estate is one of the most regulated industries at the local, state and federal level. This is why every REALTOR® needs to be counted on Election Day.

All California REALTORS® are members of the REALTOR® Party of California, a committed movement of real estate professionals fighting to keep the dream of homeownership alive in California and through the country. We value homeownership, private property rights, free enterprise and a responsive government.

Through your vote, C.A.R’s ability to protect your business is strengthened. When REALTORS® are engaged in the electoral process, elected officials listen to our concerns.

The decisions made by elected officials affect REALTORS® lives every day; from the taxes we pay to the roads we drive on, to the schools our children attend. That’s why it’s important to participate in the political process and choose elected officials by exercising your right to vote!

If you aren’t already registered, or if you have moved since you last voted, please Register to Vote today; simply visit this website to register: https://www.sos.ca.gov/elections/register-to-vote/

Registration Deadlines- Primary Election: May 21, 2012 General Election: October 15, 2012

YOUR vote as a REALTOR® is critical to ensuring that homeownership is represented in city council, Sacramento and Washington DC. Please make exercising that right a priority, register and vote!!

Do you know? What is “IDX” an how does it work? IDX (or “Internet Data Exchange”) allows MLS members to offer on their own Web sites a public search of live MLS data, including their own listings and those of their IDX participants. Setting up an IDX search is simple: Log on to the MLS, go to Admin > Public Access Links. You should find 4 links, one that says “hyperlink for IDX Framed Solution.” If you only find 2 links, then the broker must sign the agreement with GAVAR allowing it for their office & agents. Once all 4 links are available, the member copies the framed hyperlink, then pastes it to a button or link in his/her own website labeled something like “Search for Properties.” If working with a webmaster who is setting up the website, copy the framed link and paste in an email and send it to them. Have Questions? Call GAVAR 661-726-9175 or Rapattoni Tech Support 866-730-7114

Sell them back to GAVAR. GAVAR offers $35 per box.
