Is your dog pulling on the leash? Pulling is very common and very easy to cure. You should

go to a good pet store and purchase a harness to reduce the pulling and make your daily

walks easier.

Don't ever use food to control your dog's behavior. Dogs need food to survive, so it should

not be used as their only reward. While giving physical rewards is good, you should also give

him a lot of praise.

In most cases, it is possible to instill new behaviors in even the oldest dogs, but be mindful of

any physical limitations. For example, a health condition or physical malady might impair the

ability to learn. A dog with arthritis won't be able to stand for very long, for example. Older

dogs often find mental stimulation in training, keeping them young at heart. However, you

must make sure that you're not causing it unwarranted pain during exercise sessions.

If your dog is a chewer they are most likely destructive and in distress. In addition to

destroying your property, chewing the wrong thing can prove fatal to your pet. To help

prevent chewing, keep tempting items away from your dog. You should spray bitter pet

deterrents on things you cannot move.

Remember that you are in charge of your dog. You are the one in control. Use a secure

collar with a short leash when beginning obedience training. Teach your dog to heel when

walking, and always pass through gates and doors ahead of him. You're the leader after all!

Understand limitations of older dogs. An older dog will never be able to be trained perfectly.

They all have little quirks that you should learn to embrace! If you decide to adopt a dog that

is older, remember he may be set in his ways. While it may be possible to teach them new

habits, sometimes it's best to concentrate on the negative things that you can alter, and learn

to live with the other things.

Exercise a great deal of patience in dog training. Train them gradually so they do not feel

rushed into anything. Some dogs take to training easily and can learn new commands in

on the same page and use the same commands. Dogs will learn better and faster if they

have a set commands that they need to follow.

Use positive reinforcement when dog training. Your dog should be rewarded with both small

treats and happy words. Refrain from any physical contact if your dog does not follow

directions. Such tactics do not work and will reduce your credibility. Firmness, positivity and

consistency are the keys to solid dog training.
