L O C K H A V E N , P A The Ark S U M M E R 2 0 1 7 Hard Stops
The only way to get anywhere safely is to make complete stops along the way. To follow Christ, in whatever you do, make hard complete stops at set times throughout the day to pray. Otherwise you’re risking a crash. Or missing your turn. 9, 12, 3, on the hour, might be times to set a gentle chime alarm, and just stop and pray. Praying at set times throughout the day is how both Jesus and the early church lived their days. God marking time. For example more than one of the church fathers had those in their care recite Psalm 63 every day. I keep a copy in my wallet, and now it resides in my heart. The psalm takes 30 seconds to recite; it was Dwight Moody who said that if you’re too busy to pray, you have more on your plate than God ever intended. Do you know what the root of the Hebrew word ‘Sabbath’ means? Cease and stop. And to pause is to lead and examined life. You will find in God’s more perfect economy, what is lost in efficiency is returned tenfold in effectiveness (ever found yourself making great tome on the highway, only to find out later that you’re going in the wrong direction?)
In addition to Psalm 63, here are a few other verses to stop your day for. Try this ancient Christian discipline for a week, and watch your days take wing! Stop, pause, and whisper them aloud to yourself.
This is what your Father God really thinks about you.
Shalom,
Pastor Taylor
I am complete in Christ. Colossians 2:9-10 I have direct access to the throne of grace through Jesus Christ. Hebrews 4:14-16 I am free from condemnation Romans 8:1-2 I am assured that God works for my good in all circumstances. Romans 8:28 I am free (from any condemnation brought against me) and I cannot be separated from the love of God. Romans:8:31-39
I am confident that God will complete the good work He started in me. Philippians 1:6
I have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power, love and a sound mind. 2 Tim.1:7

Two things!! Do you have a child
who is asking about communion? There will be a first communion teaching offered to parents
and their children during the Sunday school hour on July 9th. There is no particular age requirement for communion.
The PC (USA) says that it is up to the parents to decide when their children are ready to participate in communion in a meaningful way. This teaching time begins at 9:00am on July
9th and is a way both parents and youngsters can ask ques-tions and thoughtfully consider communion. So drop a note
in the plate if you are interested in this help in preparing your child for worship.
Also…several children have expressed their desire to serve as acolyte. The instructions we presently use are in the usher’s schedule and the Leading in Worship booklet avail-able at the back of the sanctuary. The ushers have the re-sponsibility of choosing an acolyte and lighting them up. Par-ents who have youngsters who wish to acolyte can review with them the methods in the booklet on page 11.

Prayer Changes Things!
“I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me, for they are yours.” The words of Jesus for the church, John 17:9
“I urge then, first of all, that requests, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for everyone.”
Paul’s words to a co-worker, 1 Timothy 2:1
The eyes of an average church attendee glaze over when the topic of prayer comes up. It’s a defense mechanism to avoid guilty feelings
about not praying, induced by lectures (read sermon) on why you should.
But for followers of Christ, along the way there are spots on the path where prayer becomes unforced and easy – not without work and trial and error – so maybe easy in the wrong word. Let me try to explain prayer from another angle. Don’t anybody glaze over yet.
A tee shirt spotted downtown at Avenue 209 coffee house reads
on the front: Don’t go to Church. On the back: Be the Church. That’s big stuff. A prophetic slap-across-the –head for all of us. Are we attending church or are we being the church? Well, is prayer for us a seldom thing, an obligation of duty, uncomfortable in restaurants, suffered in worship, a dis-attraction? All our prayer lives need overhauled. We all stand guilty as charged – Pastor Taylor, too! And stop glazing!
Lord, we ask that you would bless us all with hearts and minds, that throughout our lives in both joys and sorrows, we truly know we can fully rely on you, our Lord and Savior.
Through your grace, Lord, we can rest in your creation and ex-press our joy as children and thank you God, for a wonderful weekend, blessed with excitement and togetherness all in the name of God.
Guide us as a refreshed and thankful community of believers, to be in the moment so we may enjoy and glorify you through your love and power as we fully rely on you God.
I pray we all don’t go to church! I pray we be the church!

‘Pardon?’ I hear you say!
This is Gaelic or Irish for hello. It seems appropriate
since it literally means ‘God be with you’. What a
nice way to greet someone! And yes, I am from
Ireland.
I am Brenda Rossman, the new office manager.
I came to be here by way of Bible College in Pensa-
cola, Florida, where I met and married my American
husband, son of a Presbyterian Pastor.
We were looking for a church and on our first Sunday here we both felt this was the one. We
are delighted to be here. I am looking forward to meeting the people that I have not met yet.
Please drop in and say hello if you are near the church.
Thank you for being patient with me while I find my feet in the office.
I very much appreciate that!
God bless you, Brenda

Memorize Psalm 63 in three months
Pastor Taylor is challenging all of us
to learn by heart Psalm 63 this summer.
Memorize a psalm? Are you kidding?
That’s way too much! I’m too old/young/busy/whatever to try that!
Hold on! Everyone can do this! Scripture is not of use unless it
comes to mind when you need it. That is why we are to ‘hide it in our hearts’.
This psalm has eleven verses and we can break it down into
one step at a time. For June, read through the psalm
and speak out loud verse 1 and verse 11. Just learn by heart the
first and last verse.
Stop your day for:
Pastor Taylor is offering a gift
of a silver half dollar to any one who can recite the psalm by
memory! Knowing God’s Word is better than silver and gold!

Krislund Camp & Conference Center
What’s New! This year we have added some exciting new activity camps that all campers may experience
Krislund in different ways. Our new camps offer campers who would rather try their hand a
different crafts than concentrate on the adventure activities. These camps include Baubles,
Beads and Bling (working with metal to create jewelry), Clay, Construction and Coils
(making, glazing and firing a piece of clay work), Fine Arts Camp (creating items by sewing,
knitting, working with clay and wood and making jewelry)
Nomad Camp is unique in that campers get to experience the best of Krislund as well as the
best of Wesley Forest and Mount Luther camps that are partnering with us to offer a broad
range of experiences.
The other new camp week is C.L.A.W.S. This camp includes Crafts, Legos, and Wild Sports.
Campers will also have the opportunity to create a sewing project.
Krislund’s Wish List
Sewing and knitting supplies: This summer we will be expanding the opportunities for
campers to learn sewing and knitting skills and other fiber arts. If you have yarn, material,
threads, pins, and needles—you know, any of the tools that you use to knit or sew—we could
use them in the fiber arts program.
Thanks for thinking of Krislund. As good stewards, we will try to use all donations well. If
we find that we cannot, we will pass them on to those who can.
Krislund Seeks Medical Volunteers If you are a current or retired RN, LPN, Doc-tor, PA or EMT, Krislund invites you to serve as
a medical volunteer at summer camp for a week or several days.
Two medical volunteers are needed weekly to manage camper medications and assist with
medical issues. Volunteers stay in the Nurse’s apartment or adjacent Cabin, both with their
own bathroom and air conditioning/heat. Camp runs from Sun-day afternoon to Friday late
afternoon from June 11- August 11.
To inquire about openings or to apply, please click on the “Volunteer” tab at
www.krislund.org or contact the camp office at 814 422 8878 or by email at-
[email protected]. Please consider serving and enjoying the fellowship of being at camp
while sharing in our ministry. Thank you!
