Throughout the last 50 years or so the basic buildingblocks of life – air, water and the earth – have beensystematically subjected to increasing levels of pollutionwith little regard to their potentially devastating effectson future generations.
Recently however, concern has grown regarding climatechanges, acid rain, water and air pollution and theconstant degradation of Earth’s natural resources.The very technology that created these problems is nowbeing harnessed to halt and reverse them. Depletion ofthe ozone layer and global warming have beenhighlighted and are now being addressed. Governmentlegislation prohibiting the use of toxic substances and thegeneration of pollutants has slowed down thedestruction of the environment.
Daikin Europe is proud to have been pro active in thisrespect, closely following its Japanese parent inimplementing policies that have often pre-emptedofficial legislative codes and directives. As a result, aculture of ‘environmental management’ has since 2001,played a key role in the company’s day to day activitiesand development strategies.
Top management commitment is reflected in theestablishment of a number of action plans, which arenow strictly observed and implemented throughout theDaikin Group.

All water chiller design, testing and manufacture is carried out in Daikin’s European headquarters plant in Ostend,Belgium. However, certain important components such as compressor/refrigerant combinations are still engineeredinitially by Daikin Industries in Japan.Daikin’s manufacturing philosophy is characterised by its integrated zero defect policy, whereby production line staffare required to carry out preventive control and testing procedures. The quality of both current and future Daikinequipment is dependent on this effective interaction between all stages of the developing and production cycle.

TWO COMPRESSOR TYPES FOR ALL APPLICATIONS
THE SINGLE SCREW STEPLESS COMPRESSOR- FOR HIGH CAPACITY
The heart of the larger Daikin chillers is a semi hermeticsingle screw compressor, designed, tested and manufacturedin Daikin’s own laboratories, in order to meet the highestcapacity, performance and maintenance specifications.This compressor has been especially developed foroperation with R-134a or R-407C refrigerant, guaranteeingunequalled reliability and many years of efficientoperation. The bearing life is 100000hrs with inspectionand maintenance intervals every 40000hrs.
Characteristics :
• Optimal performance through stepless capacity control infunction of the chilled water temperature.The unit capacity is infinitely variable from 30-100% onsingle circuit units and 15 - 100% on dual circuit units.
• Compact, simple yet robust construction.• Using a main single screw and two gate rotors, axial and
radial forces are balanced thanks to the symmetricalcompression guaranteeing low bearing loads.
• Renowned for its low noise levels the double walledcasing design and integrated oil separator, add to theattenuation effect.
• Gate rotors made of polymer material result in closertolerances with main screw and reduced frictiongreatly improving compressor efficiency and lifetime.
• No oil pump necessary – lubrication based ondifferential pressure principle.
• Easy access to both compressor and safety devices• Star delta starter with low starting current as standard

THE SCROLL COMPRESSOR,FOR CONTROLLED CAPACITY
The smaller Daikin chillers are designed around a DaikinScroll hermetic compressor.This compressor has been developed for the refrigerantR-407C to provide constant reliability and high efficiencyright throughout its service life.
Characteristics :• Compact, simple yet robust design,• Absence of valves and oscillating connecting mechanisms
providing maximum reliability• Constant compression guaranteeing low energy
consumption• Increased compression efficiency thanks to the absence
of volumetric re-expansion• Low sound level• Low starting current
STANDARD ANTI-CORROSION TREATMENT
As standard, condensers for air cooled chillers are givenanti-corrosion treatment. This treatment significantlyincreases resistance to acid rain and saline corrosion.Depending on the capacities and models, treatments areof the following type:
ACRYLIC TREATMENT (Daikin ref PE)This procedure is used as standard for small air cooledchillers with capacities between 10 and 35kW and all air-coold screw chillers.The aluminium fins are coated with an acrylic resin and ahydrophilic film.
BLACK EPOXY TREATMENTUsed for chillers from 62 to 267kW, with multiple scrollcompressors. The aluminium fins are black epoxy coated.

SINGLE SCREW STEPLESSCOMPRESSORSDeveloped and manufac-tured by DAIKIN, the DAIKINsingle screw compressor isappreciated for its reliability.Single screw compressors areused with air cooled chillerswithin the range of capacitiesbetween 100 and 580KW.
SCROLL COMPRESSORSBeing compact, the DAIKINScroll compressor is used withR-407C. Designed for smalland medium capacities, theScroll compressors are usedwith air cooled chillerswithin the range of capacitiesbetween 11 and 267kW.
Valued for the energyefficiencies that it helpsattain, R-134a is a pure HFC.It is used for air cooledchillers within a capacityrange of between 121 and330kW.
Showing respect for theenvironment, R-407C is anHFC, which is used forair cooled chillers withina capacity range ofbetween 11 and 541kW.For capacities below 11kW,R-410A refrigerant is used.
The only manufacturer to develop both the air conditioning equipment and refrigerants, DAIKIN boasts aninternational reputation in terms of technological innovation.

SWING COMPRESSOR
The mini-chiller range is equipped with a swing compressor.This innovative design by Daikin with fewer moving partsallows smoother more reliable operation with lowvibration and low noise levels. The newly developed highefficiency motor further reduces energy consumptionresulting in high energy cost savings.
Inverter technology used in the new mini-chiller allows moreprecise control of the leaving water condition in function of theload. This leads to energy savings and high comfort levels,ensuring it is never too cool or too hot. This is a major advantageover standard fixed speed models, which use on/off cycling of thecompressor, creating greater fluctuations in control conditions.
