• Hominids found rocks and sticks in

their environment and figured out how

to use them to help them find food.

4. CREATED/MADE TOOLS

• Hominids took natural objects and then

changed them and improved them to help

them do work.

– Rocks with a sharpened edge for

cutting.

4. SWEATING AND LONG

DISTANCE RUNNING

• Humans could run after fast moving prey

for long periods of time

• and tire them out making it possible to

catch and kill them.

5. CONTROLLED FIRE

• Gave us warmth (could move out of

Africa)

• Provided protection from large nocturnal

predators.

6. LANGUAGE AND ART

• With language humans could

communicate complex ideas to one

another and pass knowledge from one

person to another.

• Art gave humans a way to leave messages

for other people to see and understand

even if they weren’t there.
