Grease Traps/Interceptors

Pretreatment and Laboratory Services Division

What rules concerning my grease trap or grit trap must I follow to be in compliance with the City of Dallas’ Industrial Waste and Water Pollution Control Ordinance?

All Generators of liquid waste shall comply with the following:

1. Grease traps located upon the premises of Food

Service Establishments shall be one hundred percent (100%) pumped out the earlier of every ninety days, or when twenty five percent (25%) or more of the wetted height of the grease trap, as measured from the bottom of the grease trap to the invert of the outlet pipe, contains floating materials, sediment, oils or greases. The Generator must supervise the cleaning and is to insure that 100% of the traps contents are removed.

2. Grit trap cleaning is required annually, or more

frequently, as needed. 3. For grease trap/interceptor and grit trap service,

you must use a liquid waste transporter who is permitted by the City of Dallas. A list of permitted transporters is available upon request.

4. Hazardous wastes, such as acids, strong cleaners, pesticides, herbicides, paint, solvents or gasoline,

should not be disposed of in the sanitary sewer. 5. The Transporter must present a City of Dallas Liquid Waste Transportation Manifest (Trip Ticket)

for you to complete BEFORE any waste is removed from your trap. You, as the Generator, must be sure that the Transporter writes down the number of gallons of waste removed.

6. The Manifest must be signed by you (the Generator) and the Transporter at the time of waste

removal. 7. The initial copy of the Manifest is your receipt and should be retained until the completed record is

returned from the final disposal company. This final record must be retained on the premises of the facility, where the trap is located, for a period of three years. All Manifests must be stored where they will be readily available for examination by City of Dallas personnel.

8. As the Generator, you are responsible for maintaining the traps in continuous proper working

condition. You are also required to report and clean up all spills or accidents involving grease, sand or grit collection and have the material disposed of properly.

5. El transportador debe presentarle un manifiesto para el transporte de desechos líquidos de la

Ciudad de Dallas (Liquid Waste Transportation Manifest) que usted debe llenar ANTES de que limpien los desechos de su filtro. Usted, como el generador de los residuos, debe asegurar que el transportador apunte el número de galones de desechos removidos del filtro.

6. El manifiesto de transporte de desechos debe ser firmado por usted (el generador) y el transportador

a la hora de remover los desechos. 7. La primera copia del manifiesto de transporte es su copia y usted debe archivarla hasta que la

compañía de desecho le envíe el documento final. Este documento final debe ser archivado por tres años en las instalaciones en donde se encuentra el filtro. Todos los manifiestos de transporte deben ser archivados en un lugar fácilmente accesible en caso de que el personal de da Ciudad de Dallas desee revisarlos.

8. Como el generador de los residuos, usted es responsable por mantener los filtros en un estado de

buen funcionamiento. También se le requiere reportar y limpiar cualquier accidente o derrame de grasa, arena o grava y desechar estos materiales de la forma correcta.
