Grassland • Grasslands are large areas
with hills of grass and wildflowers.
Sometimes grasslands are called prairies, savannahs, or steppes.

Climate
• In the summer it is about 30c• In the winter it can go to 0c• Average yearly rainfall is about 10 – 30 inches.
Animals
• Here are some of the animals that live in grassland areas.
• prairie dogs• black rhinoceros• Cheetah- running • Elephants- roam in huge• Zebras

PRAIRIE DOGSThere are five different species of prairie dogs: black-
tailed, white-tailed, Gunnison, Utah, and Mexican prairie dogs.
They grow between 30 – 40 centimeters in height .
They are tiny creatures, so they can hide easily from predators.
They have claws to dig their homes
BLACK RIHNOCEROS
• An adult rhinoceros grows 140 – 170 cm in height.
• Usually rhinoceros weighs up to 800 to 1,400 kg .
• Leafy plants, branches, shoots, thorny wood bushes, and fruit.
CHEETAH• Cheetahs can run between 112 to 120 km/h.
• They can accelerate from 0 to 103 km/h in about 3 seconds.
• This is also one of their adaptations with this power they can protect themselves.
• Cheetah feed on antoplope and buffalo
ELEPHANT• A elephant weighs about 12,000 kg• The hard skin helps it prevent arrows and
knifes.• leaves, bamboo, bark, roots, twigs, and
small amounts of fruits, seeds, and flowers• Elephants protect themselves with their
trunks.
ZEBRAS Zebras eat dry grass. Zebras have special teeth to chew tough
grass. Thin fur keeps them coolTheir great stamina helps them outpace
predators
Plants
• Here are some grass and wildflowers the grow in grassland.
• Purple needlegrass • Sunflower • Wild oats• Indigos• Goldenrods
RYEGRASS
ryegrass can extend growing into the warm seasons .
Ryegrass can get killed or damaged in cold winter seasons.
SUNFLOWERS
• Sunflowers come in all sorts of colors.
• They need a lot of sun that is why they call it a sunflower, they need water, oxygen, rich soil.
• thorns around stem and leaves for protection.

WILD OATS
• Wild oats are sometimes cut for hay, and young plants provide forage for grazing animals.
• The oat that grows in the plant is edible by humans and other animals.
Human activities
• Humans destroy grassland by driving vehicles on them, which destroys the plants and killes animals.
• Humans set fire to the ground which destroys plants and kills innocent animals .
