Pat Carpio ScholarshipOn June 14th, 2001 the Michigan Republican

Party lost one of its most vibrant citizens. Pat Carpioand his mother were killed in a car accident whilereturning home from a long-anticipated trip toHawaii.

We are blessed for having had the opportuni-ty to know him and to count him among our friends.

The Pat Carpio Scholarship FundTo honor the life of Pat, his dedication to

family, friends and the Michigan Republican Party, the Pat Carpio Scholarship Fund has been created. All funds raised will go toward scholarships for students to attend Boys State and Girls State fromthe 1st Congressional District.

These programs train young men and women

to be leaders in their communities. Each year, young people from all over Michigan gather in Lansing to  participate in a "mock" legislative process. Manyelected officials and political leaders are Boys andGirls State alumni. Once again the hope is to ensurewe have strong well educated leaders for tomorrow.

Pat loved life and loved politics. This fundwas started in his name to help other young peoplewho are interested in politics and the political process.

Fundraiser Event for the Pat Carpio Schol-

arship will be taking place on Mackinac Island during the Michigan Republican Party Leadership

Conference this September. More information to

GrassrootsUSA.net QuestionsWhat are your goals?   – To raise $25,000 per year in order to hold pizza & politics meetings, educate and encourage grassroots participationthrough precinct delegate recruitment and supportthe Pat Carpio Scholarship fund. Encourage andsupport interns and develop an interactive websiteand social network. We do these things because itis “We the People” who have the voice.

Where are you getting your funding from? – Donations from grassroots supporters such as Jane Abraham,Peter Cook, Douglas and Maria DeVos, Dan and Pam DeVos, John and Phyllis Haggard, Ed and SusanHaroutunian, Jim Duistermars, Ann and Tom McCleary, Bill Womer, and Chuck Yob to name just a few.

What is your timeline? – GrassrootsUSA.net is a 527 organization and is based on a yearly schedule(January – December). Our goal is to raise $25,000 per year.

What are your benchmarks? – We try to raise dollars continuously throughout the year. We like to haveraised $10,000 by April 1st of each year.

How will a donor know you are successful? – They can check on our more interactive website: Grass-rootsUSA.net. We are also connected on Facebook and Twitter. We also try to generate 4 newsletters per year. The newsletter can be mailed to donors if they choose. It is also available on our website.

What research do you have to support the need? – Being involved with the political process is an every-day thing. For example; by monitoring how many precinct delegate slots are filled and how many are

unfilled know what the needs are and in which locations. Local elections, State elections, and National elec-tions just to name a few of the processes we are involved with.

Do you have partners? – We network with grassroots people in the state of Michigan.

What specifically do you want to support? - The mission of GrassrootsUSA.net is simple – to educate andencourage grassroots participation in the political process. All citizens, regardless of their views, need to beinvolved, because at the end of the day government has a direct impact on our lives – not matter which sidewins. One of the best ways to encourage grassroots participation is to recruit precinct delegates. We alsosupport scholarship funds such as the Pat Carpio Scholarship fund.

Do you have a long-range plan? – To continue to encourage people to get involved in politics at the grass-roots level, particularly to fill precinct delegate slots, and to raise money to do this.

Do you have a committee? – Our committee members are Chairman Hank Fuhs, Executive Director Matthew X. Hauser, Contributing Editor Justin Swan, Contributing Editor John Mohyi and IT Director RyanRodarmer. We also hire independent office services contractors to put together our newsletter and completeour mailings.
