Important Safety InformationListed below are common practices that may or may not be applicable to the products described in this manual.

Safety at All TimesCareful operation is your best assurance against an accident. All operators, no matter how much experience they may have, should carefully read this manual and other related manuals, or have the manuals read to them, before operating the power machine and this attachment. Thoroughly read and understand

the “Safety Label” section. Read all instructions noted on them.

Do not operate the equipment while under the influence of drugs or alcohol as they impair the ability to safely and properly operate the equipment.

The operator should be familiar with all functions of the tractor and attachment and be able to handle emergencies quickly.

Make sure all guards and shields appropriate for the operation are in place and secured before operating attachment.

Keep all bystanders away from equipment and work area.

Start tractor from the driver’s seat with hydraulic controls in neutral.

Operate tractor and controls from the driver’s seat only.

Never dismount from a moving tractor or leave tractor unattended with engine running.

Do not allow anyone to stand between tractor and attachment while hooking-up.

Keep hands, feet, and clothing away from power-driven parts.

While transporting and operating equipment, watch out for objects overhead and along side such as fences, trees, buildings, wires, etc.

Store attachment in an area where children normally do not play. When needed, secure attachment against falling with support blocks.

Look for the Safety Alert SymbolThe SAFETY ALERT SYMBOL indicates there is a potential hazard to personal safety and extra precaution must be taken. When you see this symbol, be alert and carefully read the message that follows it. Hazard control, and accident prevention are dependent upon the awareness, concern, prudence, and proper training of personnel involved in the operation, transport, maintenance, and storage of equipment.

Tractor Shutdown & Storage If engaged, disengage power

take-off. Park on solid, level ground and

lower attachment to ground or onto support blocks.

Put tractor in park or set park brake, turn off engine, and remove ignition key to prevent unauthorized starting.

Relieve all hydraulic pressure to auxiliary hydraulic lines.

Wait for all components to stop before leaving operator’s seat.

Use steps, grab-handles and anti-slip surfaces when stepping on and off the tractor.

Detach and store attachment in an area where children normally do not play. Secure attachment using blocks and supports.

OFF REMOVE

Safety Precautions for ChildrenTragedy can occur if the operator is not alert to the presence of children. Children generally are attracted to attachments and their work. Never assume children will remain

where you last saw them. Keep children out of the work area

and under the watchful eye of a responsible adult.

Be alert and shut the attachment and tractor down if children enter the work area.

Never carry children on the tractor or attachment. There is not a safe place for them to ride. They may fall off and be run over or interfere with the control of the power machine.

Never allow children to operate the power machine, even under adult supervision.

Never allow children to play on the power machine or attachment.

Use extra caution when backing up. Before the tractor starts to move, look down and behind to make sure the area is clear.

Be Aware of Signal WordsA signal word designates a degree or level of hazard seriousness. The signal words are:

Listed below are common practices that may or may not be applicable to the products described in this manual.

Transport Safely Comply with federal, state, and

local laws. Use towing vehicle and trailer of

adequate size and capacity. Secure equipment towed on a trailer with tie downs and chains.

Sudden braking can cause a towed trailer to swerve and upset. Reduce speed if towed trailer is not equipped with brakes.

Avoid contact with any overhead utility lines or electrically charged conductors.

Always drive with load on end of loader arms low to the ground.

Always drive straight up and down steep inclines with heavy end of a tractor with loader attachment on the “uphill” side.

Engage park brake when stopped on an incline.

Maximum transport speed for an attached equipment is 20 mph. DO NOT EXCEED. Never travel at a speed which does not allow adequate control of steering and stopping. Some rough terrains require a slower speed.

As a guideline, use the following maximum speed weight ratios for attached equipment:

20 mph when weight of attached equipment is less than or equal to the weight of machine towing the equipment.10 mph when weight of attached equipment exceeds weight of machine towing equipment but not more than double the weight.

IMPORTANT: Do not tow a load that is more than double the weight of the vehicle towing the load.

Practice Safe Maintenance Understand procedure before doing

work. Refer to the Operator’s Manual for additional information.

Work on a level surface in a clean dry area that is well-lit.

Lower attachment to the ground and follow all shutdown procedures before leaving the operator’s seat to perform maintenance.

Do not work under any hydraulically supported equipment. It can settle, suddenly leak down, or be lowered accidentally. If it is necessary to work under the equipment, securely support it with stands or suitable blocking beforehand.

Use properly grounded electrical outlets and tools.

Use correct tools and equipment for the job that are in good condition.

Allow equipment to cool before working on it.

Disconnect battery ground cable (-) before servicing or adjusting electrical systems or before welding on equipment.

Inspect all parts. Make certain that parts are in good condition & installed properly.

Replace parts on this attachment with genuine Land Pride parts only. Do not alter this attachment in a way which will adversely affect its performance.

Do not grease or oil attachment while it is in operation.

Remove buildup of grease, oil, or debris.

Always make sure any material and waste products from the repair and maintenance of the attachment are properly collected and disposed.

Remove all tools and unused parts before operation.

Tire Safety Tire changing can be dangerous

and must be performed by trained personnel using the correct tools and equipment.

Always maintain correct tire pressure. Do not inflate tires above recommended pressures shown in the Operator’s Manual.

When inflating tires, use a clip-on chuck and extension hose long enough to allow you to stand to one side and NOT in front of or over the tire assembly. Use a safety cage if available.

Securely support the implement when changing a wheel.

When removing and installing wheels, use wheel handling equipment adequate for the weight involved.

Make sure wheel bolts have been tightened to the specified torque.

Use A Safety Chain A safety chain will help control

drawn machinery should it separate from the tractor drawbar.

Use a chain with the strength rating equal to or greater than the gross weight of the towed implement.

Attach the chain to the tractor drawbar support or other specified anchor location. Allow only enough slack in the chain to permit turning.

Always hitch the implement to the machine towing it. Do not use the safety chain to tow the implement.

Listed below are common practices that may or may not be applicable to the products described in this manual.

Prepare for Emergencies Be prepared if a fire starts. Keep a first aid kit and fire

extinguisher handy. Keep emergency numbers for

doctor, ambulance, hospital, and fire department near phone.

Keep Riders Off Machinery Never carry riders on tractor or

implement. Riders obstruct operator’s view

and interfere with the control of the power machine.

Riders can be struck by objects or thrown from the equipment.

Never use tractor or implement to lift or transport riders.

Use Safety Lights and Devices Slow moving tractors, and

self-propelled equipment can create a hazard when driven on public roads. They are difficult to see, especially at night. Use the Slow Moving Vehicle (SMV) sign when on public roads.

Flashing warning lights and turn signals are recommended whenever driving on public roads.

Use Seat Belt and ROPS Land Pride recommends the use

of a CAB or roll-over-protective-structures (ROPS) and seat belt in almost all power machines. Combination of a CAB or ROPS and seat belt will reduce the risk of serious injury or death if the power machine should be upset.

If ROPS is in the locked-up position, fasten seat belt snugly and securely to help protect against serious injury or death from falling and machine overturn.

Avoid High Pressure Fluids Escaping fluid

under pressure can penetrate the skin causing serious injury.

Relieve all residual pressure before disconnecting hydraulic lines or performing work on the hydraulic system.

Make sure all hydraulic fluid connections are properly tightened/torqued and all hydraulic hoses and lines are in good condition before applying pressure to the system.

Use a piece of paper or cardboard, NOT BODY PARTS, to check for suspected leaks.

Wear protective gloves and safety glasses or goggles when working with hydraulic systems.

DO NOT DELAY. If an accident occurs, see a doctor familiar with this type of injury immediately. Any fluid injected into the skin or eyes must be treated within a few hours or gangrene may result.

Wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Wear protective clothing and

equipment appropriate for the job such as safety shoes, safety, glasses, hard hat, dust mask, and ear plugs.

Clothing should fit snug without fringes and pull strings to avoid entanglement with moving parts.

Prolonged exposure to loud noise can cause hearing impairment or hearing loss. Wear suitable hearing protection such as earmuffs or earplugs.

Operating a machine safely requires the operator’s full attention. Avoid wearing headphones while operating equipment.

Avoid crystalline Silica (quartz) DustBecause crystalline silica is a basic component of sand and granite, many activities at construction sites produce dust containing crystalline silica. Trenching, sawing, and boring of material containing crystalline silica can produce dust containing crystalline silica particles. This dust can cause serious injury to the lungs (silicosis).There are guidelines which should be followed if crystalline silica (quartz) is present in the dust.

Be aware of and follow OSHA (or other local, State, or Federal) guidelines for exposure to airborne crystalline silica.

Know the work operations where exposure to crystalline silica may occur.

Participate in air monitoring or training programs offered by the employer.

Be aware of and use optional equipment controls such as water sprays, local exhaust ventilation, and enclosed cabs with positive pressure air conditioning if the machine has such equipment. Otherwise respirators shall be worn.

Where respirators are required, wear a respirator approved for protection against crystalline silica containing dust. Do not alter respirator in any way. Workers who use tight-fitting respirators can not have beards/mustaches which interfere with the respirator seal to the face.

If possible, change into disposable or washable work clothes at the work site; shower and change into clean clothing before leaving the work site.

Do not eat, drink, use tobacco products, or apply cosmetics in areas where there is dust containing crystalline silica.

Store food, drink, and personal belongings away from the work area.

Wash hands and face before eating, drinking, smoking, or applying cosmetics after leaving the exposure area.

These are common practices that may or may not be applicable to the products described in this manual.

CAN: digsafecanada.ca Always contact your local utility companies (electrical, telephone, gas, water, sewer, and others) before digging so that they may mark the location of any underground services in the area.

Be sure to ask how close you can work to the marks they positioned.

Handle Chemicals Properly Protective clothing should be

worn. Handle all chemicals with care. Follow instructions on container

label. Agricultural chemicals can be

dangerous. Improper use can seriously injure persons, animals, plants, soil, and property.

Inhaling smoke from any type of chemical fire can be a serious health hazard.

Store or dispose of unused chemicals as specified by the chemical manufacturer.

IntroductionLand Pride welcomes you to the growing family of new product owners.This Grapple Bucket has been designed with care and built by skilled workers using quality materials. Proper assembly, maintenance, and safe operating practices will help you get years of satisfactory use from this machine.

ApplicationThe Land Pride GBE25 and GB25 Series Grapple Buckets have uses and applications in farming, ranching, horse ranches, dairies, feedlots, construction sites, and nurseries. They have the capability of quickly and conveniently turning your tractor front loader equipped with a skid steer type quick attach hitch (GB25 Series) or Euro type hitch (GBE25 Series) into a Grapple bucket for handling large bales or loose and shredded materials such as straw, hay, silage, manure, branches, sticks, wood and trash. The grapple fork on top helps hold loose and/or shredded materials onto the bucket below when picking up a load and when transporting the load.

They are available in three different widths. The GBE2590 and GB2590 are 90" (2.29 m) wide, GBE2596 and GB2596 are 96" (2.44 m) wide, GBE25108 and GB25108 are 108" (2.74 m) wide. Whichever model you select, you’ll find that these Land Pride attachments will save you time and money by making that material handling job a whole lot easier.

the operator with safety, assembly, operation, adjustments, troubleshooting, and maintenance. Read this manual and follow the recommendations to help ensure safe and efficient operation.

• The information contained within this manual was current at the time of printing. Some parts may change slightly to assure you of the best performance.

Tractor Shutdown ProcedureThe following are basic tractor shutdown procedures. Follow these procedures and any additional shutdown procedures provided in your tractor Operator’s Manual before leaving the operator’s seat.

1. Reduce engine speed and shut-off all power to the attachment.

2. Park tractor and attachment on solid, level ground.

3. Lower attachment until it is flat on the ground or on non-concrete support blocks.

4. Put tractor in park or set park brake, turn off engine, and remove switch key to prevent unauthorized starting.

5. Relieve all hydraulic pressure to auxiliary hydraulic lines.

6. Wait for all components to come to a complete stop before leaving the operator’s seat.

7. Use steps, grab-handles and anti-slip surfaces when stepping on and off the tractor.

Pre-Assembly Checklist

Check Ref.Have a hoist, fork lift, or loader with properly sized chains and safety stands capable of lifting and supporting the equipment on hand.

Have a minimum of two people available during assembly.

Make sure all major components and loose parts are shipped with the machine.

Double check to make sure all parts, fasteners, and pins are installed in the correct location. Refer to the Parts Manual if unsure.

NOTE: All assembled hardware from the factory has been installed in the correct location. Remember location of a part or fastener if removed. Keep parts separated.

WARNING!To avoid serious injury or death: • Consult your power machine Operator’s Manual for

operating capacity, lifting capacity, and operating specifications. Exceeding rated capacities and specifications can result in a roll-over or other serious hazard.

• Use a power machine of adequate size for the load being carried. An undersized machine can roll over when raising the loader arms due to high center of gravity.

• Lightweight power machines may need weight added to the rear to maintain steering control and prevent forward tipping or side tipping caused by a heavy front load. Consult your power machine Operator’s Manual to determine proper weight requirements and maximum weight limitations.

Before You StartMake sure the intended tractor conforms to the tractor requirements provided on this page. Also, read and understand this Operator’s Manual for your Grapple Bucket. An understanding of how it works will aid in its assembly and set-up.

Go through the “Pre-Assembly Checklist” on this page before assembling the Grapple Bucket. To speed up your assembly task and make the job safer, have all needed parts and equipment readily at hand.

Grapple Arm & Tower AssemblyRefer to Figure 1-1:

WARNING!To avoid serious injury or death: To avoid serious injury, keep fingers and other body parts away from articulating areas around grapple arms (#1), grapple towers (#2 & #3), and hydraulic cylinders (#4).1. Before assembling components, remove from inside

the bucket all unassembled components.

2. Lay grapple arm and tower assemblies on one side or face down on the floor (not shown).

3. Remove port plugs “A” from hydraulic cylinders (#4). Keep port plugs for reuse in steps 7 & 13.

4. Rotate left-hand tower (#2) on its back and then rotate arm (#1) up until hydraulic cylinder (#4) is fully extended as shown Figure 1-1.

5. Attach hoist or other suitable lifting device around tower (#2) in the area designated “LIFT POINT”.

6. Rotate arm (#1) onto its side until it is resting on the floor.

7. Replace port plugs “A” in hydraulic cylinder (#4) to help keep the cylinder from retracting while lifting the arm and tower assembly.

8. Pick tower and arm assembly up with the lifting device. If needed, lower unit to the floor and readjust its straps around the lift point before transporting.

Refer to Figure 1-2:9. Attach left-hand tower (#2) between brackets (#5)

with upper mounting pin (#8) and then the lower mounting pin (#8). Secure mounting pins with linchpins (#7).

Refer to Figure 1-1:10. Rotate right-hand tower (#3) on its back and then

rotate arm (#1) up until hydraulic cylinder (#4) is fully extended as shown Figure 1-1.

11. Attach hoist or other suitable lifting device around tower (#3) in the area designated “LIFT POINT”.

12. Rotate arm (#1) onto its side until it is resting on the floor.

13. Replace port plugs “A” in hydraulic cylinder (#4) to help keep the cylinder from retracting while lifting the arm and tower assembly.

4. Attach 81" (2.06 m) long hydraulic hoses (#9 & #10) to elbows (#5B). Tighten hoses to elbow fittings.

5. Skip to “Counterbalance Valve (Optional)” on page 12 if included. Otherwise, continue with step 6 below.

6. Attach opposite end of hydraulic hoses (#7 & #8) to lower tee (#6). Rotate tee as shown and hold in this position while tightening hoses to the tee.

7. Attach opposite end of hydraulic hoses (#9 & #10) to upper tee (#6). Rotate tee as shown and hold in this position while tightening hoses to the tee.

8. Attach hydraulic hose clamps (#2) to spill screen (#1) as shown with 5/16"-18 x 1 3/4" GR5 hex head bolts (#3) and hex nylock nuts (#4). Do not tighten nuts at this time.

9. Make adjustment to hoses (#7, #8, #9, & #10) and draw hose clamps (#2) up tight by tightening hex nylock nuts (#4). Do not crush hoses.

10. Tighten elbow fittings (#5A & 5B) to hydraulic cylinders (#11).

Counterbalance Valve (Optional)Refer to Figure 1-5:

11. Attach valve mounting bracket (#1) to screen guard (#16) with four 5/16"-18 x 1" GR5 hex head bolts (#5) and hex nylock nuts (#4). Tighten nylock nuts to the correct torque.

12. Screw adapters (#11) to ports (LB, LR, RB, & RR) on counterbalance valve (#12) until tight.

13. See Important note above. Attach counterbalance valve (#12) to valve mounting bracket (#1) with two 5/16"-18 x 2 1/2" GR5 hex head bolts (#6) and hex nylock nuts (#4). Tighten nylock nuts to the correct torque.

14. At port (LB), tighten hose (#7) to adapter (#11).

15. At port (LR), tighten hose (#9) to adapter (#11).

16. At port (RB), tighten hose (#8) to adapter (#11).

17. At port (RR), tighten hose (#10) to adapter (#11).

18. Attach hydraulic hose clamps (#2) to spill screen (#1) as shown with 5/16"-18 x 1 3/4" GR5 hex head bolts (#3) and hex nylock nuts (#4). Do not tighten nylock nuts at this time.

IMPORTANT: Make sure ports LB & LR on counter balance valve (#12) are on the left-hand side with LB port at the bottom and LR port at the top and that counter balance cartridge (#14) is on the right-hand side at the top as shown.

19. Make required adjustment to hydraulic hoses (#7, #8, #9, & #10) and draw clamps (#2) up tight by tightening hex nylock nuts (#4). Do not crush hoses.

GB(E)2590 & GB(E)2596 Tine AssemblyRefer to Figure 1-6:1. Outside tines (#5) are shipped attached to cross

tube (#2) with two u-bolts. Remove outside tines (#5) from cross tube (#2) and discard the two u-bolts and nuts securing them to the cross tube.

2. Attach cross tube (#2) to grapple arms (#1) with 5/8"-11 x 5 1/2" GR5 hex head bolts (#3), tines (#5), and secure with hex top locknuts (#4). Do not tighten locknuts at this time.

3. Position ends of cross tube (#2) equal distances from grapple arms (#1) and tighten hex top locknuts (#4) to the correct torque.

GB(E)25108 Tine AssemblyRefer to Figure 1-7:1. Attach cross tube (#2) to grapple arms (#1) using

5/8"-11 x 5 1/2" GR5 hex head bolts (#5), clamp plates (#4), and hex top locknuts (#6). Do not tighten nuts at this time.

2. Position ends of cross tube (#2) equal distances from grapple arms (#1) and tighten hex top locknuts (#6) to the correct torque.

Bolt-on Cutting Edge (Optional)Refer to Figure 1-8:Increase bucket cutting edge life by adding the optional bolt-on cutting edge (#3) to the bottom of the bucket. This option can be reversed to extend its life and can be replaced once both of the cutting edges are worn away.

1. Attach cutting edge (#3) to the bottom of the bucket as shown with 5/8"-11 x 1 3/4" GR5 plow bolts (#1) and hex flange locknuts (#2).

2. Tighten hex flange locknuts (#2) to the correct torque.

Hook-up to Euro Hitch PlateRefer to Figure 1-9:

DANGER!To avoid serious injury or death: A crushing hazard exists while hooking-up and unhooking the attachment. Do not allow anyone to stand between attachment and power machine while approaching or backing away from the attachment. Do not operate lift and/or tilt controls while someone is near the power machine and/or attachment.

WARNING!To avoid serious injury or death: • Lightweight power machines may need weight added to the

rear to maintain steering control and prevent forward tipping or side tipping caused by a heavy front load. Consult your power machine Operator’s Manual to determine proper weight requirements and maximum weight limitations.

• Check Euro style hitch fit-up frequently to make sure it is properly secured under the attachment’s hooks and lock pins are fully extended into the locking lugs. An improper fit-up can result in the attachment coming loose and falling.

This Grapple Bucket is designed for attaching to a tractor loader with an attached Euro hitch plate.

1. Lower loader hitch plate as far as possible.

2. If required, manually move locking handle on the loader hitch plate until locking pins are pulled fully back and ready for hook-up.

3. Carefully drive up to the bucket’s upper hitch hooks until mounting bar on the loader hitch plate is aligned and positioned under the hooks. It may be necessary to tilt top of loader hitch plate forward.

4. Raise loader hitch plate up until the mounting bar is completely caught under the hooks.

5. Tilt top of loader hitch plate back to allow the bucket lower locking lugs to swing-in against the loader hitch plate and pin holes in the lower locking lugs to align with locking pins in the loader hitch plate. If needed, raise loader hitch plate to complete the swing-in alignment.

6. Shut tractor down if loader hitch pins do not auto-lock into the locking lug pin holes, See “Tractor Shutdown Procedure” on page 9.

7. Dismount tractor and manually operate loader hitch lever to push locking pins fully into the pin holes in the lower locking lugs.

8. Make sure auto-lock lever is locked into position to keep locking pins from backing out of the pin holes.

9. Complete customer supplied hydraulic hook-up. See “Hook-up Customer Hydraulics” on page 16.

This Grapple Bucket is designed for attaching to a tractor loader with an attached Universal Quick-Attach hitch plate.

1. Check for and remove any debris in the front loader and grapple hitch point areas before hooking-up to the Grapple Bucket.

2. Drive tractor slowly up to the bucket hitch plate making sure the loader hitch plate is parallel with the bucket’s top angle bars.

3. Tilt top of loader hitch plate slightly forward.

4. Place top of loader hitch plate under the grapple’s top angled bars and slowly raise loader hitch plate until the loader hitch plate is seated under the top angle bars.

5. Tilt top of loader hitch plate back until bucket hitch plate makes full contact with the face of the loader hitch plate.

6. Push lock handles on loader hitch plate down. Make sure the pins go through the bottom slots in the bucket hitch plate and lock handles are locked down.

7. Complete customer supplied hydraulic hook-up. See “Hook-up Customer Hydraulics” on page 16.

Hook-up Customer HydraulicsLength of hydraulic hoses, type of hydraulic fittings, and method of hose routing will vary from tractor to tractor. Therefore, the customer is to supply required hydraulic hoses, elbows, adapters, mounting brackets, quick connect couplers, and all other unforeseen components to complete the connection between customer’s duplex outlet at the tractor and Land Pride’s connection point at the back of the bucket.

WARNING!To avoid serious injury or death: Hydraulic fluid under high pressure can penetrate the skin and/or eyes causing a serious injury. Wear protective gloves and safety glasses or goggles when working with hydraulic systems. Use a piece of cardboard or wood rather than hands when searching for leaks. A doctor familiar with this type of injury must treat the injury within a few hours or gangrene may result. DO NOT DELAY.1. Attach customer supplied hydraulic hoses to the back

of the grapple as follows:

• Standard Set-up, refer to Figure 1-4 on page 11: Customer supplied hydraulics will connect to tees (#6). Tees are 9/16"-18 37o male JIC threads.

• Optional Set-up, refer to Figure 1-5 on page 12: Customer supplied hydraulics will connect to EXT & RET ports in counterbalance valve (#12). Remove and discard EXT & RET port plugs (#13) from counterbalance valve. EXT & RET Ports are 3/4"-16 female ORB threads.

2. Route customer supplied hydraulic hoses through the most convenient path to access the tractor’s duplex outlet.

3. Clean quick connect couplers of dirt and then connect couplers to the tractor’s duplex outlet. Make sure quick connect couplers are fully engaged. If they are not, check the following:

a. Make sure couplers are same size and type.

b. Make sure hydraulic pressure has been released.

4. Extend and retract hydraulic cylinder with the tractor controls. Switch hoses on the tractor duplex outlet if hydraulic cylinders operate opposite of intended direction.

5. Secure customer supplied hydraulic hoses and fittings along their path with zip ties or by other means to protect them from being pinched, kinked, and/or snagged.

6. For additional help, refer to Hydraulic Hook-up in your tractor Operator’s Manual.

IMPORTANT: Make sure coupler fittings on the customer supplied hydraulic hoses and tractor duplex outlet are clean before connecting them together.

Equipment ClearancesIt is important to check clearance before putting the Grapple Bucket into operation. Make sure hoses are long enough and won’t become pinched or entangled in the equipment. Also, make sure the bucket does not come in contact with the tractor frame and tires by carefully going through its full range of motions.

1. Visually inspect hydraulic hoses for possible pinch points and shortness. Make adjustments to the hoses before putting the equipment into service.

2. Start tractor and raise bucket approximately 36" (.39 m) off the ground.

3. If necessary, have someone stand nearby that can motion for the operator to stop if a problem develops while completing steps 4-7 below.

4. Fully extend grapple hydraulic cylinders to pivot the grapple tines down.

5. Fully extend and retract hydraulic cylinders on the end of the loader arms while watching for interferences between the tractor and Grapple Bucket. Make sure hydraulic hoses are long enough and do not become pinched through the full range of motion.

6. Fully retract the grapple hydraulic cylinders to pivot the grapple tines up and repeat step 5.

7. Raise the bucket fully up and repeat steps 4-6.

Purging Hydraulic System

1. With bucket raised off the ground about 12" (30.5 cm), cycle grapple hydraulic cylinders several times from fully extended to fully retracted.

Refer to Figure 1-4 on page 11:2. Purge the hydraulic system if a cylinder operates

unevenly after cycling it several times:

a. Shut tractor down before dismounting. See “Tractor Shutdown Procedure” on page 9.

b. Loosen hoses (#9 & 10) on elbows (#5B).

c. Slowly activate lever to retract the cylinder rod and purge trapped air from the system.

d. Once all trapped air is removed, tighten hoses (#9 & #10) to elbows (#5B).

IMPORTANT: Purge hydraulic cylinders and/or hoses of air before putting the equipment into service. Not purging the system can cause uneven cylinder movement and positioning.

7. Operate bucket through its full range of movements to check for clearances. Refer to “Equipment Clearances” on page 16

8. Purge hydraulic system of trapped air by operating all hydraulic functions several times before putting unit into service. Refer to “Purging Hydraulic System” on page 16 and in your tractor Operator’s Manual if any hydraulic function continues to operate erratic.

Operating Safety

DANGER!To avoid serious injury or death: • Hydraulic fluid under high pressure can penetrate the skin

Use a piece of cardboard or wood rather than hands when searching for leaks. A doctor familiar with this type of injury must treat the injury within a few hours or gangrene may result. DO NOT DELAY.

• Make sure the machine is stopped on solid, level ground before raising load to dump. To maintain stability, raise load only to the height necessary to complete the dump.

• Never dump a load around gas lines, overhead power lines, utilities, or other hazards that can cause serious injury or death from electrocution, explosion, or fire.

• Make sure all objects are contained and/or secured before lifting. Do not lift a load that cannot be contained in the attachment as the load can shift and fall.

• Do not drive up to anyone or an animal in front of a fixed object such as a wall or bench. Never assume that the power machine will stop in time.

• Keep load positioned forward enough to prevent accidental spillage on operator and power machine.

• Keep load slightly tilted back to secure its weight against the hitch frame. Tilting top of hitch frame to far back can cause load to shift and fall rearward onto the machine and/or operator. Tilting top of hitch frame to far forward can cause load to shift and fall forward.

• Use a “spotter” when it is hard to see in the direction you are traveling and when placing a load that obstructs your vision. A person or animal could be nearby in a blind spot.

• Make sure all objects are contained and/or secured before lifting. Do not lift a load that cannot be contained in the attachment as the load can shift and fall.

• Keep bystanders, pets, and livestock away from your work area. Never allow anyone to go near or under the attachment or its load. The attachment and/or load can fall.

• Keep attachment, loader arms, and/or load away from overhead electrical power lines. Place an orange warning sign under overhead lines indicating type of danger above.

• Always secure equipment with solid, non-concrete supports before working under it. Never go under equipment supported by concrete blocks or hydraulics. Concrete can break, hydraulic lines can burst, and/or hydraulic controls can be actuated even when power to hydraulics is off.


Operating ChecklistHazard control and accident prevention are dependent upon the awareness, concern, prudence and proper training involved in the operation, transport, storage, and maintenance of the Grapple Bucket. Therefore, it is absolutely essential that no one operates the unit unless they are age 16 or older and have read, fully understood, and are totally familiar with the Operator’s Manual. Make sure the operator has paid particular attention to:

Perform the following inspections before using your Grapple Bucket.

General InspectionMake the following inspections with bucket attached to a tractor that is parked on a level surface.

1. Complete Operating Checklist table provided above.

2. Inspect tractor safety equipment to make sure it is in good working condition and that all safety alert decals are visible and readable. Replace all missing and unreadable safety alert decals.

3. Inspect hitch hook-up to bucket.

• Make sure front loader mounting plate is secured under the bucket’s top angle bars, lock pins extend fully through the bottom slots in the bucket hitch, and handles are locked down.

• Make sure mounting bar on the Euro hitch is aligned and positioned under the bucket’s upper hooks and auto-lock lever is locked into position to keep pins from backing out of lower locking lugs.

4. Consult your tractor Operator’s Manual to determine if ballast is required. Add ballast if needed.

5. Inspect condition of hydraulic hoses, fittings, and valves before starting the machine. Make sure hoses are not pinched, kinked, twisted, or frayed and that they will not contact moving parts.

6. Operate hydraulic controls to verify control lever movements function properly and equipment movements are correct. Make any necessary changes to controls and hydraulic hook-ups before putting equipment into service.

WARNING!To avoid serious injury or death: • Allow only persons to operate this attachment who have

fully read and comprehended this manual, who are properly trained to operate the attachment safely, and who are age 16 or older. Serious injury or death can result from the failure to read, understand, and follow instructions provided in this manual.

• Never carry riders on the attachment or power machine. Riders can obstruct the operator’s view, interfere with controls, be pinched by moving components, become entangled in rotating components, struck by objects, thrown about, fall off and be run over, etc.

• Operate only power machines equipped with a certified Roll-Over Protective Structure (ROPS) and seat belt. Fasten seat belt snugly and securely to help protect against serious injury or death from machine overturn.

• A crushing hazard always exist around Grapple buckets.• Keep load centered, even when stopped. This will optimize

load stability and protect against load shifting.• Backup alarm must be in good working order to warn

others. Use a backup camera or rear-view mirror that is in good condition to ensure the area behind the unit is clear. Drive at a slower speed to compensate for blind spots.

• Consult your power machine Operator’s Manual for operating capacity, lifting capacity, and operating specifications. Exceeding rated capacities and specifications can result in a roll-over or other serious hazard.

• Use a power machine of adequate size for the load being carried. An undersized machine can roll over when raising the loader arms due to high center of gravity.

• Do not abuse equipment. Incorrect use of the Grapple Bucket can damage equipment and cause serious injury or death.

• Check hitch fit-up frequently. An improper fit-up can cause the attachment to come loose from the loader hitch plate and fall.

• Perform scheduled maintenance. Check for loose hardware, missing parts, broken parts, structural cracks, and excessive wear. Make repairs before putting the attachment back into service. Serious breakdowns can result in injury or death.

• Power machines outside the listed horsepower range must not be used. Higher horsepower machines can damage the attachment. Under horsepower machines makes the job more difficult and are easier to tip over when loader arms are raised due to high center of gravity.

• Do not alter attachment or replace parts on the attachment with other brands. Other brands may not fit properly or meet OEM specifications. They can weaken the integrity and impair the safety, function, performance, and life of the attachment. Replace parts only with genuine OEM parts.

• Do not chain or strap loads to the loader arms, hitch, or attachment. Hitting solid objects with a load fastened to the attachment or machine can cause frame damage and/or tipping resulting in the loss of operator control.

• Do not use this attachment as a lifting device for people or as a work platform. It is not properly designed or guarded for this use.

• Do not use this attachment to lift the front or back of the power machine off the ground. Doing so can damage the attachment, power machine, and/or cause serious injury or death.

• Do not use this attachment for pulling objects out of the ground, for prying other objects, or for pushing and towing other equipment.

• Not obeying all safety instructions listed below can result in injury to the operator and other personnel.

• Always lower grapple to the ground and fully close upper jaw before dismounting to service the grapple or to park with grapple attached. Working around a grapple with the upper jaw raised or getting on and off the power machine with the loader arms not fully down can cause a crushing hazard due to accidental movement of the control levers or loss of hydraulic pressure.

• Always store attachment in a secure position so that it will not fall over.

• Lightweight power machines may need weight added to the rear to maintain steering control and prevent forward tipping or side tipping caused by a heavy front load. Consult your power machine Operator’s Manual to determine proper weight requirements and maximum weight limitations.

• Follow recommendations in the power machine Operator’s Manual when parking or dismounting the power machine.

• Wear appropriate personal protective gear. Include eye protection when appropriate and when operating a power machine without an enclosure or protective shield. Dust and debris can get into the eyes.

• Never make contact with underground utilities such as electrical power lines, gas lines, phone lines, etc. They can cause serious injury or death from electrocution, explosion, or fire. If in doubt, call 811 (USA) before digging so that they can mark the location of underground services in the area. Transport Safety

DANGER!To avoid serious injury or death: Keep attachment, loader arms, and/or load away from overhead electrical power lines. Place an orange warning sign under overhead lines indicating type of danger above.

WARNING!To avoid serious injury or death: • Follow all safety precautions when transporting a load. Not

using safe transporting methods can damage the equipment and cause serious injury or death.

• Always transport loads as close to the ground as possible without hitting objects. A load carried high could shift causing the load to fall, tipping of the machine, and/or loss of control.

• Always travel straight up and straight down inclines. Never make turns on the incline.

• Transporting loads across inclines, over ramps, on bumpy, soft, or slippery surfaces reduces machine stability and lift capacity. Transporting and lifting loads under these conditions is extremely dangerous. Follow all transport instructions in your power machine Operator’s Manual.

• When traveling on public roadways, travel in such a way that faster moving vehicles may pass safely. Use accessory lights, clean reflectors, and a slow moving vehicle sign that is visible from the back to warn operators in other vehicles of your presence. Always comply with all federal, state, and local laws.

Grapple Bucket OperationPicking Up A Load

picking up a load. Objects can shift or be thrown suddenly as the attachment makes contact with load causing serious injury or death.

• Enter pick-up zone carefully making sure no object will come through or pass the attachment into the operator’s space.

1. Be sure to read and understand all safety alerts under “Operating Safety” on page 17.

IMPORTANT: Do not ram attachment into a pile or hook a chain to the attachment to secure a load. Doing so can damage the attachment.

IMPORTANT: Close upper jaw with care when lifting fragile or hollow objects such as a crate. This will help protect the object from being crushed.

2. Make sure the load does not exceed the rated lift capacity of the tractor loader lifting the load.

3. Check for overhead obstructions.

4. Center bucket on the load to be picked up.

5. Make a complete stop in front of the load and position the bucket at the proper height to enter the load.

6. Fully open grapple tines and slowly drive into the load. Do not ram bucket into the load.

7. Close grapple tine to secure the load.

8. Lift load a few inches and tilt it back slightly.

9. Make sure you have good control of the load. If the load is not secure, release and recapture the load in a more secure location.

10. Back load out slowly making sure the load clears all other obstacles.

11. Not always will the load be secured properly in the bucket when pulled free from a pile. Before traveling with a loose load, lower the load to the ground, release it, and re-capture it to make it more secure.

12. Position the load at a safe, low traveling height before transferring it to the unloading site.

Traveling With A Load1. Be sure to read and understand all safety alerts

2. Pedestrians always have the right-of-way.

3. Keep load tilted slightly back.

4. When possible, travel with bucket and load kept low to the ground.

5. Continually scan all sides for pedestrians, other traffic, and obstacles.

6. If the load is large and blocks your view, travel in reverse.

7. Always drive at a safe speed and slow down when going around corners. Avoid sudden braking.

8. Leave enough clearance when turning so that the bucket and load does not contact obstacles such as vehicles, buildings, trees, or fences.

9. When traveling over a ramp or incline, keep load on the “uphill” side of the tractor.

10. When possible, travel straight up and down grades, ramps, and inclines. Avoid making turns on grades, ramps, and inclines.

11. Raise or lower the load only when stopped, never while traveling.

12. Slow down when traveling over rough or hilly terrain.

13. Do not transport loads on public roadways.

14. Transport on public roadways without a load and transport in such a way that faster moving vehicles may pass you safely.

15. Plan your route to avoid heavy traffic.

Releasing A Load1. Be sure to read and understand all safety alerts

2. Stop in front of the desired location.

3. Slowly raise load to the required height.

4. Move forward slowly checking to make sure bucket and load clears all obstacles.

5. Stop forward movement when load is positioned over its release location.

6. Releasing the load requires a combination of the tilting front of the bucket down, raising the upper grapple tine, and raising the loader arms. The order in which the load is released will vary depending on type of material being released. The most important objective is to have the load under control throughout the release.

7. Once the load has settled, slowly back up making sure bucket clears all objects and no pedestrians or other traffic are behind or on either side of the tractor.

8. Leave enough clearance when turning and/or lowering the bucket so that it does not make contact with obstacles such as vehicles, buildings, trees, or fences.

9. Close the grapple and lower the bucket to transporting height (low to the ground) before moving again.

2. Align bucket holes “A1” with grapple holes “A2”.

3. Shut tractor down without changing the front loader height. See “Tractor Shutdown Procedure” on page 9.

4. Attach bucket holes “A1” to grapple holes “A2” with mounting pins (#6) and secure with linchpins (#5).

5. Return to the tractor and rotate bucket up to align grapple holes “B2” with bucket holes “B1” and to lift the grapple off the ground 1 to 2 inches.

6. Shut tractor down without changing the front loader height.

7. Attach bucket holes “B1” to grapple holes “B2” with mounting pins (#8) and secure with linchpins (#7).

Refer to Figure 2-2:8. Remove cotter pin (#3) and pin (#2) from hole B.

9. Rotate park stand (#1) up and secure in place by inserting pin (#2) in hole “A”.

10. Secure pin (#2) with hairpin cotter (#3).

11. Repeat steps 8-10 for the other park stand.

12. Connect hydraulic hoses to the tractor duplex outlet.

13. Return to the tractor and rotate Grapple Bucket to the up-right position.

General Operating InstructionsBy now you should have familiarized yourself with the Operator’s Manual for your Grapple Bucket. If you haven’t, please do so now. If someone else is operating the tractor and Grapple Bucket, make sure they read and fully understand this manual. We cannot overstress the importance of following the safety operating procedures spelled out in this manual.

Before you begin carrying materials with your Grapple Bucket, make sure the back of the tractor has enough weight to counter-balance the overhanging weight on the front loader. Without this weight, the tractor could tip causing damage to the equipment and serious personal injury or death to the operator. This weight may be attained with ballast in the rear tires or by adding weights to the rear wheels. Check your tractor Operator’s Manual or see your nearest tractor dealer to determine the best method and correct weights to add.

You will want to determine the path you will be traveling and to check for overhead obstructions such as low hanging branches and electrical wires. Also check for drop offs, holes, rocks, stumps and other protrusions that could flip the tractor. Mark problem areas with flags and/or warning signs indicating potential problems.

Proceed by getting onto the seat of your tractor and starting it up. It isn’t going to take you long to learn how to use your new Land Pride Grapple Bucket. As you quickly become skilled and adept in using your Grapple Bucket, you will soon learn that it is important to approach the load being picked up with the bucket low and to come to a full stop in front of the load before maneuvering the bucket and grapple. While stopped, position the bucket at the proper height and open the grapple. Once the grapple is opened, proceed slowly into the load to fill the bucket. Stop to close the grapple and contain the load. With the load contained, slowly raise the bucket up several inches and tilt it back slightly. Check the load to make sure it is secured. Make sure no one is behind or on either side of tractor. Back the load out slowly while watching for pedestrian traffic and other obstacles that might get in the way. Once free, stop and recheck the load to see if it is properly secured. If not, release the load and re-clamp it to make it more secure.

You are now ready to start traveling with the load. Before starting your journey, position the load at a safe, low traveling height with the bucket tilted back slightly. Avoid fast starts and travel at a speed that does not shake the load around causing it to break loose and fall from your bucket. It is also important that you travel at a speed that does not make it difficult to control the tractor. While you are transporting, continually scan all sides for pedestrians and other traffic. Also watch for drop-offs, holes, rocks, stumps, and other protrusions that could make the load or tractor unstable. Reduce speed when turning corners and watch to make sure the load does not swing into objects such as fences, trees, and buildings. Remember, it is safer for you and less destructive to your equipment and load to not hurry.

As you approach your unloading site, start slowing the tractor down gradually. Come to a complete idle and then stop in front of the location the load is to be released. Slowly raise the load to the required height for releasing. Make sure there are no people or animals around as you move forward slowly to position the load above its final release zone. Stop to release the load. Releasing the load requires a combination of tilting the front of the bucket down, opening the grapple up, and raising the loader arms to clear the released material. The order in which the load is released will vary depending on type of material being released. The most important objective is to have the load under control throughout the release.

Once the load has settled, slowly back up making sure the bucket clears all objects and there are no pedestrians or other traffic behind or on either side of the tractor and bucket. When the tractor and bucket is completely removed from the released load, you can readjust the bucket and grapple to a safe low traveling height and return to the field to pick up your next load.

In no time at all, you will find that you will quickly become very adept, handy, and skillful at using your new Land Pride Grapple Bucket.

Section 3: Maintenance & Lubrication

MaintenanceProper servicing and adjustments are key to the long life of any implement. With careful inspection and routine maintenance, you can avoid costly downtime and repair.

Check all bolts and pins after using the bucket for several hours and on a regular basis thereafter to ensure they are tight and secured.

Check hitch fit-up, hydraulic hoses, and fittings on a regular basis to ensure trash or other objects have not loosened the hitch connection or damaged hydraulic hoses and fittings.

Replace worn, damaged, or missing bucket parts only with genuine Land Pride parts.

Replace illegible or missing safety labels by obtaining new labels from your Land Pride dealer.

• Perform scheduled maintenance. Check for loose hardware, missing parts, broken parts, structural cracks, and excessive wear. Make repairs before putting the implement back into service.



Hydraulic System

WARNING!To avoid serious injury or death: Hydraulic fluid under high pressure can penetrate the skin and/or eyes causing a serious injury. Wear protective gloves and safety glasses or goggles when working with hydraulic systems. Use a piece of cardboard or wood rather than hands when searching for leaks. A doctor familiar with this type of injury must treat the injury within a few hours or gangrene may result. DO NOT DELAY.One of the most important things you can do to prevent hydraulic system problems is to ensure your power machine’s reservoir remains free of dirt and contamination.

Use a clean cloth to wipe hose ends before attaching them to your power machine. Replace hydraulic filter elements at the prescribed intervals. These simple maintenances will go a long way to prevent occurrence of control valve, hydraulic cylinder, and hydraulic motor problems.

Check for signs of damaged or worn hydraulic hoses, fittings, and cylinders before each use of the equipment. Replace damaged components as needed. Order only genuine Kubota parts from your local Kubota dealer.

Long-Term Storage

Clean, inspect, service, and make necessary repairs to the implement when storing it for long periods and at the end of the season. This will help to ensure the unit is ready for field use the next time you hook-up to it.

1. Clean off any dirt and grease that may have accumulated on the bucket and grapple. Scrape off compacted dirt and then wash its surface thoroughly with a garden hose.

2. Inspect Grapple Bucket for loose, damaged, or worn parts and adjust or replace when needed.

Repaint parts where paint is worn or scratched to prevent rust. Ask your Land Pride dealer for aerosol touch-up paint. Paint is also available in touch-up bottles with brush, quarts, and gallon sizes by adding TU, QT, or GL to the end of the aerosol part number.

3. Replace all damaged or missing guards & decals.

4. Lubricate as noted in “Lubrication Points” starting on page 28.

5. If unhooking grapple, store grapple on a level surface in a clean, dry place. Inside storage will reduce maintenance and make for a longer grapple life.

6. Store bucket with or without grapple on a level surface in a clean, dry place. Inside storage will reduce maintenance and make for a longer bucket life.

Troubleshooting Chart

Cannot lift load Insufficient power to lift load.Reduce load on bucket or switch to a tractor that is rated for more lift capacity.

Hydraulic hoses are stretched and/or damaged

Hydraulic hoses are catching on tree limbs, debris, or other solid objects.

Replace hydraulic hoses. Stay away from objects that can catch on hydraulic hoses. Stop immediately if hoses are catching on an object and remove object. If helpful, readjust hose routing.

Hydraulic fittings are damaged

Hydraulic hoses and/or fittings are catching on tree limbs, debris, or other solid objects causing fittings to become damaged.

Replace hydraulic fittings. Stay away from objects that can catch on hydraulic hoses. Stop immediately if hoses are catching on an object and remove object. If helpful, readjust hose routing.

Jaws don’t sufficiently clamp tight on a load

A load taken from a pile can be too bulky to properly clamp while in the pile.

Re-clamp load once load is free from pile.

Tractor can not maintain pressure Install counter balance valve.

Upper jaw does not operate

Hydraulic hoses are not coupled to tractor. Reattach couplers to tractor.

WarrantyLand Pride warrants to the original purchaser that this Land Pride product will

be free from defects in material and workmanship beginning on the date ofpurchase by the end user according to the following schedule when used asintended and under normal service and conditions for personal use.

Overall Unit: One year Parts and Labor

Hydraulic Cylinder: One year Parts and Labor; Hoses and seals are considered wear items.

This Warranty is limited to the repair or replacement of any defective part byLand Pride and the installation by the dealer of any such replacement part, anddoes not cover common wear items. Land Pride reserves the right to inspect anyequipment or parts which are claimed to have been defective in material orworkmanship.

This Warranty does not apply to any part or product which in Land Pride’sjudgment shall have been misused or damaged by accident or lack of normalmaintenance or care, or which has been repaired or altered in a way whichadversely affects its performance or reliability, or which has been used for apurpose for which the product is not designed. Misuse also specifically includesfailure to properly maintain oil levels, grease points, and driveline shafts.

Claims under this Warranty should be made to the dealer which originally soldthe product and all warranty adjustments must be made through an authorizedLand Pride dealer. Land Pride reserves the right to make changes in materials ordesign of the product at any time without notice.

This Warranty shall not be interpreted to render Land Pride liable for damagesof any kind, direct, consequential, or contingent to property. Furthermore, LandPride shall not be liable for damages resulting from any cause beyond itsreasonable control. This Warranty does not extend to loss of crops, any expenseor loss for labor, supplies, rental machinery or for any other reason.

No other warranty of any kind whatsoever, express or implied, is madewith respect to this sale; and all implied warranties of merchantability andfitness for a particular purpose which exceed the obligations set forth in thiswritten warranty are hereby disclaimed and excluded from this sale.

This Warranty is not valid unless registered with Land Pride within 30 days fromthe date of purchase.
