LaVision offers outstanding performance computing technology based on modern highly optimized Graphics Processing Units (GPUs) for several Laser Imaging modules, such as PIV.Processing speed is always an issue: computers become faster, but demands on the software algorithm rise at least in the same way. Multi-core CPUs improved PC based software solutions during the last years. But this development is limited to the normal performance growth rate of CPU power.

For DaVis 8 LaVision implemented all PIV relevant processing functions to run on massively parallel processing GPU hardware. Although standard LaVision PCs are delivered with 2 Quad-Core CPUs, using GPU hardware boosts the processing speed up to more than a decade.

LaVision‘s GPU based PIV algorithm does not require to learn any new processing details. Most functions and parameters are available 1:1 in the conventional CPU and the new GPU processing.

LaVision‘s highly accurate PIV algorithms have been completely rewritten in GPU programming language (CUDA) to serve the same quality more than 10 times faster. The amazing speed improvement is based on the parallel processing architecture of the GPU hardware used, e.g. with 240 cores at 1.4 GHz clock.

Live PIV With LaVision‘s GPU implementation nowadays PIV systems will break the limit of real time vector recording. The result is a Live PIV system: the camera images are processed at outstanding high speed and vector fields are generated at surpassing rates and accuracy.

The GPU implementation accelerates the PIV processing routines more than 10 times, even compared to high end computers with state-of-the art multi-processor Quad-Core CPUs.

LaVision GPU processing is supported by DaVis 8. Implementations are available for FlowMaster PIV, FlowMaster Tomographic PIV and StrainMaster. GPU and PC hardware are well selected to match your needs and guarantee best performance.
