Three LRT stations, 7th St W, 8th St W, and Sunalta, were recorded and Sunalta Station was chosen for documentation over other locations due to:• location west of downtown core• single track LRT line• restrictive access to platform.

Characteristics of station:• enclosed building with exposed

ceiling over train tracks• entrance to platform is accessed

through a single stair or elevator• benches are available periodically

on platform for areas to rest.

Additional footage was recorded at Sunalta on the east bound track at 7am and 7pm.

Video was reviewed and the conclusion was made on what information would be mapped:• location of people on platform

as they wait for the train• time spent on platform• social connectivity they were

engaged in.

Evening and morning non-peak time periods were overlapped to compare the difference in density of individuals, movement patterns, social activities and frequency of trains.

A simple platform graphic was created to emphasize the main information being portrayed. The yellow line is a general marker at all platform locations and used to orientate the viewer. Seating and entrance points are also indicated.

Line stroke increased by 0.5 pt for every ten seconds an individual was active on the platform.

Colour depicts the time of day that individuals were active on the platform.

Icons represent social activity using common visual language.

In this exercise, in a group with two others, we produced a series of diagrams to communicate time based information about the Sunalta LRT station. We first took video of the site, analysed the video for information, and converted the information into visual data. Mapping: Social Interaction

assignment 08MY GRANDMOTHER’S brownie CAMERA

For our first assignment we were asked to draw a small object. I selected an old Brownie camera that I found at my parent’s home. I had no idea that this camera was my late grandmother’s.

I used different weighted pens to draw the camera.

When taking apart the camera to measure it, I discovered old film still in the camera. When I looked closer, I could see photos of my grandmother.

My parents confirmed that my grandmother always had her Brownie on hand.

I used rulers to measure and draw.

I started drafting on trace paper and finished my drawings on velum.

BROWNIE CAMERA

The popular Brownie camera was a simple and inexpensive camera made by Eastman Kodak in the early 1900s. The Brownie made low-cost photography mainstream and intro-duced the concept of snapshot photography.

In this exercise, in the same group as above plus one other, we built a model of the last assignment (kasian gallery and two different articulated walls). We did this with our drawings and plus one’s drawings, comparing both for accuracy.
