OUTCOME:In addition to the IIDA Chapter logo that wasdeveloped by headquarters and used throughout all Chapters on all graphics, we developed a personalized identity for each of our City Centers. Each of our 8 City Centers is branded with a specific color to create instantrecognition on graphics but still support a cohesive aesthetic across the Chapter. These colors and logos are integrated into each City Center’s Facebook Page, our Chapter’s `Weekly Connect’ digital eblast and also influence many of our Chapter and City Center programs.

1 TEXAS + OKLAHOMA

OBJECTIVE:Our chapter is made up of 8 active city centers and 15 campus centers that cover over 215 million acres between Texas and Oklahoma. Due to the physical distance between our city centers, they each take on a personality of their own- heavily influencing our approach to both graphics and communications. We daily strive to uphold a consistent brand for the Texas Oklahoma Chapter while maintaining compliance with established international IIDA graphics standards- allowing our cities to maintain their own unique identity, while also adhering to our Chapter branding guidelines.

Each year the IIDA Texas Oklahoma Chapter selects a

theme to use as a guiding principal behind our

programming and initatives. This year, we have selected “cultivate” as our theme.

The design industry has entered an age where change

is constant and growth is imperative. As an advocate for

our industry, we believe it is our duty to provide opportunities that

foster growth and create increased value for our members, our partners,

and our volunteers.

“The growth and development of people is the highest calling of leadership.” - Harvey Firestone

“Without continual growth and progress,

such words as improvement, achievement, and success

have no meaning.” -Benjamin Franklin

CULTIVATE IIDAAs one of the largest Chapters, we strive to streamline our communications processes, in both appearance and content, in order to emphasize cohesion between our city centers.

In 2015, in an effort to support the mission of the organization, our Chapter challenged itself to push our Chapter branded graphics further with the implementation of a Chapter-wide theme. The theme, “Engage in IIDA” was a great success, influencing nearly all of our events and initiatives and being highlighted on the majority of our graphics both at the City Center and Chapter levels.

This year, with a Chapter-wide focus on growth, we selected “Cultivate IIDA” as our new theme. We believe the design industry has entered an age where change is constant and growth is imperative. As an advocate for our industry, we feel it is our duty to provide opportunities that foster that growth and create increased value for our members, our partners, and our volunteers.

Like the previous year’s theme logo, the Cultivate logo features the brand colors of each City Center, and became an effective and impactful symbol as it created a common thread across all Chapter communications, emphasizing a clear Chapter brand to our members. After feedback from our City Centers, we expanded the graphics package for the logo to include solid white and solid black versions to ensure it could be easily integrated into any graphic. We also created an infographic explaining the origin and meaning of our “Cultivate” theme and e-blasted it to our membership to encourage recognition when seeing it on communications.

ASK ME ABOUT MY IIDAWe “cultivated” our Chapter graphics and communications by rebranding our membership social from “It’s a Sweet Deal” to “Ask Me About My IIDA”.

Full event graphics featuring a high contrast black and white design that incorporates the City Center brand colors were created for each City Center. Generalizing this event graphic allowed our City Centers use a common message while adapting their events to the unique needs of their members and prospective members. They were free to plan the events they felt would create maximum interest.

Due to its versatility, our Chapter was also able to use the graphic for crossover marketing at Metrocon. Screenprinted t-shirts and stickers made with the eye-catching graphics were well received by our membership. After seeing this early success, we are excited to continue using this “conversation starting” graphic in the years to come.

COLLECTIVE & INDIVIDUALAiding with the brand cohesion between our graphics and communications and our social media platforms, each city center has been provided identifying graphics featuring their particular brand color. These brand colors help our members quickly identify information that relates to their local city center.

Because each of our city centers is unique, we encourage them to tailor their programming and communications to the specific needs of their city. We believe respecting the unique needs of our members at a local level is the best way for us to provide value they can recognize and appreciate.

HOUSTON CITY CENTERPRODUCT RUNWAYThis yearly fashion show benefitting TAID and the Houston Furniture bank continues to wow our members with show-stopping graphics that are rivaled only by the incredible garments created by the competiting design teams.

2016’s show, which was themed “Avant Art”, featured a runway backdrop comprised of handpainted canvases created by local members of the Houston design industry, each one depicting a reinterpretation of a famous work of art. Following the show, the canvases were sold to raise additional funds for donation to the selected charities. These same works of art also served as inspiration for the design teams, who were assigned an art movement as the basis for the design of their garments.

Edgy and eye-catching graphics and collateral were created to reinforce the event theme and elevate the quality of the show itself, which continues to draw more than 1,000 attendees each year.

The pink and gray chosen this year created a strong idendity for the Chapter events. The Annual Awards Gala, Student Conference, Chapter Leadership Summit, and Annual Meeting all carried the two colors throughout their graphics.

CHAPTER EVENTSEach year the Chapter President selects two colors, one from the previous year and one new color from the Chapter approved colors. These colors are used to brand each Chapter event throughout their term. These two colors together identify a Chapter event over a City Center event.
